The whole issue with the Carlton part of Ralph's story is what else can they offer? If they go all in on 13 and take 12 to the draft, all they'll have to add to it is the scraps they get if they trade Owies and Kennedy. Why would Port trade a contracted star for that? Are they going to sell Cerra? They'll need to find the rest of the Houston price somehow.
Important point that a lot of journos seem to be missing. It was reported over a week ago that Port were "fuming" at Carlton not offering a reasonable deal for Houston.

Are Carlton not offering pick 13 (should they get it) plus F1?

Even if they are I'd be a bit annoyed as Port. Give us pick 12 and F1, then go and find another pick if you want, don't make us wait.

Houston really does look like the rare case of a player willing to allow a bidding process, rather than nominating a club. Melbourne was supposedly almost assured, then Carlton, now possibly Pies. It's a good thing for Port and, I think, good thing for the comp to see more contested deals. Not great that we have to be involved in it as the potential buying club though 😅.
Nah, the F1 (+F2) is how they are supposedly going to get 13 in the first place.

No, they're trying to use future first to get pick 13.

The anti Pies journos (Edmund, Ralph etc etc) making it sound difficult for us to get Houston… but every other report says a 3 way trade is brewing between Pies, Port and GC that will result in Houston landing with us.

Muting those types until next week and sticking with the ones who report facts (Cal Twomey), not just talk rubbish.

Cal and Riley are two that aren’t clickbaiters and once something is true they’ll report it.

Basically if they report it, start getting excited

As I've said before if GC don't trade us 13 then the cost for a contracted Noble rises to 23 and 29. If we aren't getting Houston then the need to keep Noble rises.

Also it's going to take more than pick 13 for Carlton to land Houston. Have the media forgotten that? To land pick 13 they'll need to give up a future 1st and a 2nd round selection to gain it by all accounts. If they use a future 2nd they'll be required to trade in another using pick 34 first. If they use pick 34 and a future 1st to gain pick 13 then what do they have left over to offer for Houston.

We can offer up Richards to Port and we can also use Noble to help land GC 23.

Carlton would need to part with this years pick 12 on top of other selections to beat our offer for Houston.

So, do people feel that it's largely a done deal of Houston to us, & some of the media are trying to prolong it for hits? Or is it actually still in the balance?
Can you imagine how boring the trade period would be if one of the biggest trade targets was already a lock to the biggest club in the comp because they have what it takes to get a deal done?

100% the media are drumming this up as a two, three horse race because they need clicks and something to talk about while there’s no movement.

Which is incredible given they're Essendon and Carlton supporters respectively. I've always found them to be exceptionally objective in their reporting.

Where is Lombard likely to be bid on? Don’t suns still need some decent picks to match? hence why they’d want to keep a pick in the 20’s at minimum
top 7-10 - His combine results would push him further up
And they can use later picks

Ah that's right. Then yeah, not sure what they're doing. Reported that they'd offered up Owies to Port at one point, but nothing about trying to trade him to other teams and pass on picks to Port.

Don't think Owies and Kennedy are going to get them enough. They'd need to at least get a pick 23 equivalent. Edit: they have also asked Young to look for other opportunities, so might have something there also.
