Damian Barrett has suggested that Daniel Wells has received a number of contract offers - with the most substantial coming from Collingwood.

It is believed that it is worth $600,000 a year for three years.

wells is 32 in Feb. it's ridiculous to be offering 3year deals to someone 34 in the last year.

swans were laughed at for Buddy's contract but at least he's proven durable.

they must be desperate to get him signed. just highlights the coach is all in trying to save his ass.

Stop whining. He's a class act. Why are so many other clubs interested in the old hack? We must be active during the trade period. Who would you suggest we target and how do we get him?

Why not give the more money to some of our current guns then?
Pendles, Treloar, Moore, Reid, Sidebottom, Adams etc.

Pay them a little more up front and free up cap space as the years pass by.

$600k x 3 yrs for Wells is massive overs.
I thought that, but we still need to fill list spots and who knows what trouble (if any) it could cause us with following contract negotiations. All of those players mentioned are fairly early into their new deals I believe (Sidey, Pendles, treloar, signed at the start of the year, Moore may signed a contract extension and is still young).

I take that as a Smartass Comment

Nah not at all, how many coaches, presidents dismiss stuff for it to turn out that way at years end.

If anyone still thinks Motlop is a good get after tonight you are basically insane.

Soft, non defensive, mentally weak.

Pretty in home and away games, non existent when it counts.

If you want to play finals, get a Motlop. If you want to win a flag, DON'T.

Wells would be crazy to go to Geelong. I'm not kidding, they are finished. Was listening to MMM in the car just now, Dunstall apparently went on an off air rent about this. I agreed.

Without Dangerfield they are shit.
If Adelaide had Dangerfield they'd be scary.
Geelong might have cost Adelaide a flag.

So like a modern day Leon Davis?

Are you high? The coach says get a player and the list management and officals offer him the deal. FFS.

Dangerfield cost Adelaide a flag. He was the one that wanted so desperately to leave.

Geelong cost themselves a flag and a future.

We had enough chances to draft him in 2012 and I know they were interested, but we thought it more important to draft others. They got Grundy right, but Kennedy, Broomhead and Ramsey have hardly set the world on fire. One was a complete bust and the other 2 have been constantly injured.
Ramsey is in our best 22.

Cats might offer him a bigger contract after tonight. Reckon Motlop may be playing his last game in the blue hoops; putrid.

They are already carrying too many old blokes, they would be stupid to add Wells.

Taylor, Enright, Hawkins, Bartel, Mackie & Lonergan all look cooked

I know Hawkins is only 28 but he is going down the same path as Travis

I think it's pretty evident that if you're asking that question you don't understand the art of coaching. That said you did answer your own question :thumbsu:

So the reason for Macca being sacked we agree was not football related - therefore the Dogs were right to sack him in your view.
Unless you know that Buckley is similarly the subject of a player revolt, then there is no comparison.
So why are you suggesting Buckley is being "protected"?

I think we have seen over the last few weeks with Haw and tonight with Geel, that holding off on rebuilding has its risks, even when you are blessed with a core of elite players.

So I think Buckley is being vindicated with his foresight to begin the rebuild early, because we did not have the elite depth of either Hawks or Geel.

So I'm very keen to understand why you lament that he is being "protected", because he's been vindicated in starting the rebuild early and therefore that can't be the reason.
