Hi Folks Moeydw is kindly coordinating this year's player sponsorship. There are some fantastic prizes on offer. We're over half way there at $2,000, and need to raise another $1,800 in around a week to be able to sponsor a player in 2023! Please consider joining the player sponsors group. More info on that thread. Thanks.

FB: Howe Moore Murphy
CB: Quaynor Marcov Pendles
C: J Daicos Crisp N Daicos
CF: Hill Michocek Adams
FF: Elliott McStay McCreery
R: Cameron De Goey Mitchell
INT: Cox Side WHE Carmicheal

Nice line up.

Love the Daicos shareing both wings.

Just think Marcov is a better bet then Frampton until Frampton gains some more confidence in the vfl needs some more matches. Marcov is a tall defender so can fill the void.
The ever so reliable Pendles off half back controlling the traffic and setting up the plays.
Adams has found his niche there as a mid forward so he is on the half forward line.
The rest of the forward line looks good.
Cox int for assurance and can at times pinch hit in the ruck but also play forward. WHE as that wing forward same as Carmicheal.
Side the every where man there as well.
Michocek and McStay can switch around.
Pretty balanced line up as well.

HAHA

Markov? That's funny. He isn't a tall defender. He is 189cm.
Noble is ahead of Markov as a running defender anyway

No he isn’t and no he can’t. Let’s give him time to find his feet at the club before he’s thrown to the wolves. Done nothing to date to elevate himself above incumbents or pre-existing fringe players like Ruscoe.

I can’t wait to see marcov lining up on Hawkins

I’m really keen to see how we’ll structure up. Defensively and in the midfield.

I wouldn’t be surprised for this game that we went in with Frampton and Murphy. On paper it seems too big, but Murphy can play small and we still keep our mobility. Intriguing…..

I’m a little more concerned with the midfield balance. I’m struggling to understand how Mitchell and Adams can exist along with Sidey. You can add Pendles in there also, but he has shape shifting abilities still, so can be excused. Our balance is off. It’s what I’d call a glacially moving entity. We are reverting to moving at the speed of dark….

Nick has been added and along with DeGoey and Crisp for some speed uptake. But we have a need……a need for more speed…..
Is there a Goose and Maverick amongst our group. Or maybe we can capture some speed by using the sum of our parts to create it.

I think I’ve read somewhere, RamBeau has a little speed. Maybe we can repurpose it for a greater good. And there is also a myth that has been circulating that the New Kid on the Block Allan may possess some speed. Or there’s this bloke that resembles Sonic’s nemesis, Doctor Eggman.

Can’t wait to see how Fly and Co. will solve our dilemma.

I too am concerned by our lack of break-away speed in the midfield. I think Sidey will have to soon move permanently forward to retain his spot, with a faster youngster replacing him on wing and midfield rotations. Allan? Harrison?

I’m not really too fussed about Noble.

But IQ is another thing altogether. He is one of the non negotiable’s. He is in our top 10 let alone the top 23.

I would dump one of,
Sidey
WHE
Carmichael
Hill
Mitchell
Adams
Murphy
Howe
Frampton

Before allowing IQ to not be named.

Noble must be close to our No1 metres gained player. He was the ultimate embodiment of Fly’s “take risks and move it forward quickly” game-plan. His relentless run-and-carry is hugely important. No way he’s not named for Rd1.

What break away speed does Geel have in the midfield that you fear.

No Maynard no Noble? Like that you are sending the message that no one is safe.

Remains at risk of omission for mine. Behind Quaynor and Maynard in the small-medium defender group. Behind Crisp, Pendles and Nick Daicos to if they're playing in defence. Won't get picked ahead of Moore, Howe and Frampton and/or Murphy. Given we generally only play 7 defenders in the 22, the possible move of Crisp, Pendles and Nick Daicos into the midfield the only thing that'll see him senior 23.

He is ahead of Murphy. Given Nick will be playing more mid. Him and IQ will be important for leg speed. Only Markov could take his spot with his run and carry but otherwise he is no risk. And that’s been evident given he has always been in the bests team all preseason
Not many provide the things he does and the coaches clearly value it. Will be 7th defender until we have someone that can take his place and there is nobody. Has been best 22 for 2 years

If that’s a mark ov your football knowledge then god help us all.

DeGoey and Crisp on the overlap I suspect is the key to this game. If we bring our counter attacking game to full capacity with these two we should be pretty fierce opponents. I do worry about Jez however because this fixture seems like one he (and ffs, Joe Daniher for that matter) pencil in their diaries. Let's bring our 2022 pressure and some new years confidence into this one, we were the closest team to defeating them last year so let's try set it right this year early.

In: Carmichael ( Lippa's role).

Not competing with Murphy, they play different roles. I only included him, Moore, Frampton and Howe in the discussion as we don't yet know if we'll select 3 of them, or all 4. I think they'll go with all 4 and my defensive 7 would be:

Maynard ~ Frampton ~ IQ
N Daicos* ~ Moore ~ Crisp

I/C Murphy

* Daicos or Pendles depending on which gets more midfield time to offset Lipinski absence

That leaves Noble playing VFL. Not a knock on Noble, just acknowledgement of where he sits in the pecking order, and a nod toward the health of the list and our improved depth.

Why? We moved the pill quicker than most teams and DeGoey, Crisp and N Daicos all have more than enough footspeed speed when they first win possession and want to break away from the pack. Lack of pace was never an issue last year.. I thought we looked quicker than Geelong in both games last year hence our desire to keep the ball in motion,

Doubt we'll see Frampton and Murphy in the same side as they are competing for the same spot. Until Howe is done and Murphy will take that role. Or unless Frampton doesn't work out. In terms of the pecking order with defenders, Noble is ahead of Murphy.

Noble is best 22. Crisp no longer plays HB (mid-forward seems to be this go)

You certaintly underestimate what Noble brings to the team. Good thing the coaches don't, hence why he has been in the best team during match sim.

Hey guys,

Just letting you know that J. Henry is an LTI, Holmes is also unlikely, and Cameron may miss also due to the birth of his kid. Bowes no certainty either, so realistic chance we could be missing all of Hawkins, J. Cameron, Bowes, Holmes, Duncan, Menegola, Kolodjashnij and J. Henry for this one.

Forward line completely non-existent and a 3rd of our Best 23 out if this does come to fruition, so most of us have you as a lay down misère to win this - and probably in a canter if I'm being honest.
