Forgetting the asterisk * next to Carlton finals.

Put whatever you want next to it the history books wont change.

You just keep telling yourself how good Buckley is......

Well, considering since their 2011 GF they have lost Shaw, Maxwell, Thomas, Johnson, Brown, Didak, Jolly, Krakouer, Davis, Dawes, Wellingham...Swan and Ball have both lost their fitness and are so not as effective. Fasolo, who was an up and comer around that time, has also had a couple of seasons affected by injury.

They have added Kennedy, Broomhead, Grundy, Scharenberg, Adams, Freeman, Langdon, Thomas and Frost to their list in that time (I think - maybe some of those had just done their 1st year). N.Brown to come back into the side having been injury affected.

Inevitable drop. Drafting well at the moment. Won't be down for long. They have added Young and Lynch (wow..) through free agency but it's not long until they land an actual big fish through that method.

Buckley just isn't a very good good, nothing more than that. He joins a long list of great players who couldn't coach. Why Collingwood and ed thought it would be different with Bucks... who knows, but the potential that his appointment wouldn't work was always there and unfortunately for the pies it hasn't worked out. They need to get rid of Bucks ASAP, poach an experienced gun coach or get the best assistant around and rebuild from there. But it is doubtful Eddie will do that. Collingwood have convinced themselves that their slide was inevitable and has nothing to do with the coach so he will get supported for a while yet. Perfect storm for the pies here, having bucks at the helm will keep sending them down while he is a favourite son meaning he won't get blamed or sacked by Eddie and the board.

The heat will definitely come for Bucks if they miss finals. They have regressed every year he has been there. If he was just another coach, he would already be under the pump

i don't think we know how good buckley is yet.

what we do know is that he ruined a team right in the middle of their premiership window because he had trouble relating to the various personailties within his side.

buckley will have 2 years to forge this line up or bust.

I don't rate Buckley highly as a coach. However I think he is capable. You don't get a team into a prelim, no matter how good the team if you're a sh*t coach.

AFAIC Buckley won't coach Collingwood to a flag. He seems capable enough to fill in the interim period though.

They wouldn't be any better under Malthouse. The drafting to win that premiership has hurt them long term. Despite expectation Buckley came in at a horrible time, list not quite good enough to challenge again but too good to embrace a full rebuild. In addition to the players lost due to 'cultural change', it was always going to take time, unrealistic expectations are just that.

Mick Malthouse after tonight:

Buckley has been a bad investment IMO. Similar to the whole Brisbane/Vossy situation....

All 3 teams (Brisbane, Collingwood and Essendon) that brought in favourite sons as coaches without a proper apprenticeship have really suffered for their decisions.
this!! this man has got it spot on. i think with bucks eventual sacking this could be the last time we see a former player coach.

because there aren't enough threads about this already?

Nope!

Until we hit 5 in a fortnight like we have with Malthouse we keep going.

How it hurts when the shoe is on the other foot......
