We were at home for the first time this season in round two as we hosted our neighbours from Baghdad. There was a bit going on, with the centrepiece being Dinsdale becoming the 15th person to get Life Membership of the Warriors. The Bombers are one team that we seem to match up well against, both on and off the field. It was the same old stuff during the week, albeit the PG version, so all in all it was a pretty convivial week. The only Rage we had was the misc videos pretty much all weekend.

And that led into game day. We got some half decent weather for a change, and you'd think the quality of qooty would instantly improve however we aren't used to it so shanked a bunch of kicks in the first half. Thankfully so did the Bombers, so we finished the first half ahead by a single point. We then got our sh*t together in the third quarter by kicking five goals to three, and then thought "that was easy, let's do that again" so we did it again and found ourselves 20 points to the good at the finals siren. Owen went the same way as the losing streak, which went the way of the dinosaurs.

The win saw us move up a couple of spots, and more importantly into the eight, with a match against one of the many 1-1 teams to come.

Before he became a dual Brownlow Medal winning bull midfielder, Nat Fyfe was a skinny flanker. So when I saw rookie Paracleet have a 20 disposals, 9 marks, 5 tackles & 3 goals in his second game, my thoughts immediately went to the floppy haired kid wearing the purple number 13. Hopefully it's the first of many Fyfesqe performances from the Michael Palin lookalike.

There were many other sterling performances on the day, including midfielders FootyGuy13 (26 disposals/4 marks/3 tackles/2 goals), Piggy Smalls (26 disposals/6 marks/2 tackles/1 goal), pantskyle (20 disposals/9 tackles), TheInjuryFactory (22 disposals/5 marks/1 goal) and oldmate (24 disposals/16 hitouts/4 tackles). The Filth Wizard kicked four goals while Stokey & Raveneyes (2 each) were the other multiple goalkickers, while the backline was well served by Purple7x08_24 (20 disposal/6 marks) Freofalcon (18 disposals/4 marks) & milestone man Dinsdale (18 disposals/4 marks/4 tackles).

Coney Island Warriors 9.16 (70) defeated by Sin City Swamprats 13.13 (91)

We remained at home in round three. It was Heritage Round you see, a bit earlier in the season than usual but it's kinda a heritage season for us so we commissioned TheInjuryFactory to whip up a brand new jumper to wear as we hosted the Sin Citizens. Speaking of early, oldmate woke up the Freds pretty much as soon as the curtain fell on round 2, a move that was not exactly universally lauded. We got the dad jokes during the week along with the usual supporting cast, not one but two ex-admins and a recently unretired bloke on his fourth club in as many seasons. It was as dry as a nun's nasty but at least 18 of did our darnedest.

And so to game day. A warm one greeted us, and so did the sim's hijinks. The visitors were given the first ten (10) scoring shots of the first quarter, and like a nude line up that isn't facing you they were all behinds. In fact the first goal scored was by newly-promoted ruckwazza toxic but, like some demented Freaky Friday malarkey, the shooting accuracy for each team got flipped turned upside down from that point. We kicked another 8 goals 16 behinds for the match while the 'Rats kicked another 13 goals and only 3 points to end up 21 point victors by the time the final siren sounded. What this means for our ladder position is that we return to the 9th place we held in round one.

There were several admirable performances despite the result. In the guts was Piggy Smalls (20 disposals/4 marks/4 tackles/1 goal), Ocha905 (9 disposals/a massive 12 taclkes/1 goal), pantskyle (23 dipsosals/5 tackles), TheInjuryFactory (20 disposals/4 marks), toxic (18 disposals/9 hitouts/1 goal) & FootyGuy13 (18 disposals/3 marks). The forward pockets in zackah & Stokey kicked two goals each, however Stokey technically kicked three goals if you add the six behinds he also shanked. Third gamer Paracleet (21 disposals/7 marks) put up some good numbers again, while a special shout out goes to Mesc (17 disposals/7 marks) who kept Sin City's HOF full forward to two goals.

Evening Wazzas, we come together on this Friday 1 to look back at the season that was in the 20th installment of the Frankston Rover Medal Ceremony! I'm gonna try to finish this before midnight so I may speed through things a bit, but rest assured you will get literally seconds of enjoyment out of it.

Here’s the official line on why we’re here. The Frankston Rover Medal is one of two awards across the league named after Frankston Rover - club founder, inaugural captain, former league administrator and Sweet FA Hall of Famer. It recognises the best Warriors player of the season as voted by you, and has been won by eight currently listed players, from Lord_Flashheart in season 18 through to a second win for yer man last season. We will also be awarding the Wooshette Medal for the season’s leading goalkicker and the Pwned Trophy for the player whose post made the opposition melt the hardest and the rest of us laugh our arses off.

It was our twentieth season in the SFA so it led to a season-long milestone, and we missed finals accordingly with a ninth placed finish. There were some wins to be had however. Individually pantskyle won his second Mobbs Medal (his first as a Warrior) while Purple7x08_24 was awarded a maiden All-SFA blazer. Team-wise we were voted in as the best team to post against for the season, and we picked up back to back Silver Whistles for the free kick thing I do on the side.

Now get comfy, grab a snack or a drink or a pet or whatever rubs your Buddha and settle in for the best damn ceremony to take place tonight. Paris ain't got sh*t on us!

Round four saw us travel to Spotswood to face an OOF franchise that was coming off the bye after winning their first two games. You remember the OOFs - the newest franchise that the sim decided to bestow success upon early doors, which turned a vanity project into a cult. The week had its ups and downs, but in the end false bravado fueled by events outside of your control is nothing when compared to the knowledge that a strong team is not built on a hivemind and the whim of a random simulator. On the contrary, it is built despite these things.

We eventually made it to another rainy game day, and for a change we were afforded a decent run in the first quarter. Or most of one at least, with a 24 point lead whittled down to six by the first change, and then to four points by the half. That's where the run finished, as the sim gave the hosts nine second half goals to our four because the hosts continue to be kissed on the [INSERT GENDER-RELEVANT BIT] and they ended up with a near-game high 30 point margin at the final siren.

Our third loss in four games (and eighth of our past nine) meanT we drop two spots to 11th.

pantskyle (21 disposals/4 tackles/3 goals) had a day out, while FootyGuy13 (19 disposals/6 marks/4 tackles) TheInjuryFactory (18 disposals/6 marks) & Piggy Smalls (20 disposals/4 marks/2 tackles) all did alright in the guts. The Filth Wizard recaptured some of his previous form with 4 goals from 4 kicks, while Freofalcon (13 disposals/9 marks) keeps clunking them down back. The rest of us got moved around like peas on an 11-year old's dinner plate.

Coney Island Warriors 16.9 (105) defeated by Mount Buller Demons 17.14 (116)

Round five had us back in the creature comforts of home after enduring the Spotswood compound. We had been dealing with our own demons this season, so it was nice that we had the Mount Buller ones come to keep them company. Both teams had milestones - theirs was bigger but we knew what to do with ours. Anyhoo, the week itself was typical of a Warriors/Demons week, and despite stuff getting in the way for many of our own (whether it be swine flu, a Pink concert, plasma donating or Thailand), there was still a healthy representation of Coney Islanders at home this week.

The match itself came and went, and for the second week in a row we won the first quarter. Despite requests to the contrary though we lost the last three, albeit by slim margins, to finish the match 11 points in the red to give us our fourth loss in five games this season (and nine losses in our last ten, almost as if we'd played the Dragons ten times in a row). This saw us drop further down the ladder, with only the Bombers between us and ground floor.

It seems that swine flu agreed with Piggy Smalls who, despite being one of many shuffled around the park, ended up with 19 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles & 4 goals to be best on for us. The Filth Wizard kicked his first Michelle for the season, Ocha905 (20 disposals/5 tackles) & FootyGuy13 (19 disposals/2 marks) had a bit of it as did oldmate (26 disposals/13 hitouts/3 tackles/1 goal), Mesc (18 disposals/6 marks & keeping the league leading full forward to 2 goals), Dinsdale (15 disposals/6 marks) & Purple7x08_24 (18 disposals/7 marks) kept the Demon forwards honest, Reginald Perrin kicked a couple of goals and Mofra only needed 2 minutes & 31 seconds of game time to kick a goal with his only kick.
