Confirmed Trade: Mitch Clarke to MELBOURNE for Pick 12.

Apologies, he did make the squad only. But has been drafted as a key foward.

He is an AVERAGE foward. Less than a goal a game confirms this.

Ina team with J Brown, Bradshaw and Fevola for 1 season. Clark was used as a part time forward and a part time ruck, at the Dees he will play 100% forward and be the main target, not 3rd behind Brown and others.

That's the thing. We already have. All of our better players have had their contracts renegotiated and have been extended and massively front ended.

So why aren't you at 100%? That's money that you could have paid your players and you've chosen not to. You can't get that back and say we only paid 93% last year so we'll pay 107% this year, it's just gone.

As for these front ended contracts, what happens when all these young players come out of contract and not only have you got to cover the gap between the low amount they're on at the back end of the contract and their actual market value last time they signed on, but you've also got find room for their increased market value this time around as they improve as footballers?

I'm sure the club can work it out, thanks.

I'd imagine they would have thought through all possible scenarios.

And you know the money for the salary cap?

It comes from the club.

Maybe the club thought they could use the money they weren't paying to good effect elsewhere?

Melbourne will improve significantly next year because they've started to spend some money on the football department.

Mark Neeld, Neil Craig and Dave Misson. Fremantle have done the same attaining Ross Lyon, Mark Stone and Peter Sumich.

Clark will perform well enough. He'll kick 30-40 goals and be deemed a massive success because the team will have improved out of sight. If Melbourne stumble, which i doubt, Clark will still probably kick 30-40 and he'll be deemed a massive failure.

Fremantle weren't in the position Melbourne were, we have quite a few players on significant contracts, Sandilands, Pavlich, Mundy. We didn't have the space to spend like they did.

Good luck to Melbourne, I'm tipping Fremantle and Melbourne to dislodge a couple teams inside the 8.

Clark won't make or break Fremantle, and he won't make or break Melbourne. Both clubs have made the greatest off season gains.

Name a club who has done better than either of us via player or coaches.

Collingwood lost - Malthouse, Neeld, Watters - Ouch
Geelong lost - Sanderson, plus a couple of retirements
Saints - Lyon, Misson
Bulldogs - Eade (obviously by choice), Ward

IMO Hawks and Eagles have had great offseasons by not losing much at all.

TO ALL YOU DOUBTERS

We recruited Mitch Clark as a versatile FF who can bring the ball to ground. We don't expect him to kick 100 goals or even crash packs. TBH, I'd be happy for him to kick 30+. He provides our midfield with a target up forward. Like Geelong did in it's finals series, we can now bomb the ball long into our forward line without the fear of being out sized/muscled. The addition of Mitch Clark will also make Stefan Martin more accountable. He will still play back up ruck but instead of floating forward, he can now match up on resting ruckmen.

To the ******s that say Mitch's salary is absurd and will affect our ability to keep our youngsters:
- Firstly, money TALKS. To get something good you have to SACRIFICE something good. In our case, its a truckload of cash.
- Secondly, Tim Harrington CLEARLY said that even with Mitch's addition, we are only just paying 93% of our salary cap. We still have enough money to satisfy our superstars to be.
- 600k a year is a lot of money, and I understand that. However, we have salary cap space so it doesn't bother me a single bit.

Myth Freo stuffed up the trade
Fact Freo had an opportunity to match Melb offer and get Clark but withdrew, Bond spent 3 Days securing a second 1st round pick so we could offer 16

Myth Freo fans are envious
Fact Clark is unproven, we will be envious when he kicks 70 goals a year

envious only if both our picks 16 and 20 are duds and we were to find out we had a few million to spare without breaching salary cap then we might be:mad:

I reckon for pick 12 Clark is a bargain buy fro the Dees. Decent big blokes that ruck and can play key forward dont grow on trees and he has shown he is more than capable in both roles. We couldnt match Dees financial offer so good luck to Clark and Melbourne.
One question I have is: If Clark has gone to Dees for $$$ has he screwed Brisbane over? If it was all about the dollars he shouldve told Brisbane this first and maybe other clubs wouldve come up with a better offer for him at the trade table earlier in week. By the time he agreed to go to Melbourne other clubs wouldnt have had a chance to sort out there offers, salary cap etc. Everyone just thought he was off to Freo so especially other Melbourne based clubs would have been caught off guard?
Thoughts???

I tend to agree. It has been touched upon by some posters, but if he didn't go home wtf is he doing at the Dees ? Perhaps after he'd made up his mind that he'd be leaving Brisbane to seemingly go home to Perth you can justify he'd mentally moved on, but it does seem a little strange.

Brisbane had ended up paying a premium contract post his 2009 season.

During the current contract talks, we didn't match Clark's high expectations after a lethargic 2010-11. We were out of picture very early to be honest. Our new player management is trying to get a structure where our player payments match their performance onfield, so we were not going to pay premium again to hang on to Clark.

Mitch was keen on Freo but was testing waters in Melbourne. I remember reading an article where Richmond pulled out of talks after seeing the pay packet in demand. this was vehemently denied by Young later, but you do get the idea. The first preference is to go home, the second option is to play in Melbourne "if the price is right".

Melbourne came along and Mitch got what he was after. Of course they had to go the extra mile convincing him, as he had laid the ground work on his "going home" plans, did meet Freo, released an article how family oriented he is and looking forward to playing in WA for Freo etc.

sorry dees supporters but this guy will let you down, the more I've thought about what he has demanded money wise is a joke!!!!!!!!
He is a massive flop as a forward 27 goals and not in the top 10 players in a bottom 4 team , just wait till he get the best defender every week :D
I remember the feeling I got when we got that loser of fev to the club,it's set us back 10 years and my thought is Clark's details have the same feelings

Comparing Mitch Clark to Fevola is absolutely crazy.

As for kicking 27 goals, that still made him your best goalkicker in 2011.
As for getting the best defender every week, it will allow the likes of Jurrah, Green and Watts to flourish.

Mark Neeld > Crazy Vossy :thumbsu:

Cool.

So you're about 15 years away from a top four spot then?

Well, "Crazy Vossy" inherited an experienced list in his first year. They had finals experience and were no stranger to the big stage. Losing players to Gold Coast and retirement has now put you guys in the situation we were in a couple of years ago; rebuilding.

I admit, we had an under achieving season this year. Did you beat us? No.

Jack Watts will be a superstar, bookmark it.

you guys are the best at rebuilding can you tell me how long it takes ?

ohhh that's rite you still are!!!!!! so you can't really answer that hey;)
