I’d be waiting until 2025 to begin negotiations with Sheed on a new contract. Round 15 seems too soon given he’s contracted for next year still per the post that’s stickied at the top of each page in this thread

People likely won’t be happy about it but Yeo and Ryan will likely both get 2 year deals. I do agree we should wait to see how each plays before committing though
Sheed has already shown his lack of pace is a liability in the midfield with his opponent running off him at every stoppage effectively making us a player down .

It took moving him to the forward line before we at least broke even in the midfield.

If it was me I would be low balling him to get him to ask for a trade

I think there's room for b.williams and Waterman. Play Williams deep in goal square makes a mismatch for teams because oscar/darling get best 2 defenders. B.williams goes to Ruck when Flynn needs a spell and Waterman/maric come on to forward line

If the bench gets extended to 5 with no sub everyone will be choosing between a extra tall or small. We would play the extra ruck / forward in Bailey for sure or a Waterman or Maric.

Then again you may just select the best 23rd ranked player .

Looks like Suma read what i wrote about Ryan
Talks about Gaff last season, Sheed & Yeo also in the Ryan category. Mention's Ginbey has Osteitis Pubis.

I'm in the Ruthless camp. These 3 definates and maybe Yeo to be off books end of 2024 if he does more of these injuries. I read what what Dermie Brereton wrote and i tend to agree if these senior players dont get out on the park this year for much of it
Ryan [Medical Retired]
Sheed [Medical Retired]
Gaff Age Retired
Yeo ??? I'm leaning 70% to 30 for him to retire.

The next 2 Trade/Draft/FreeAgency periods are key before Tasmania enters draft..Free Agents 25 n under.

No way we extend Sheed until he's proven his body is up to AFL levels. His foot issues are just lingering on and on.

Ryan. Nothing more than a 1 yr extension for same reason.

Yeo. The same unfortunately.

Gaff. The pace of the game and rule changes have gone past Gaff unfortunately.

Saying that I hope they get fit again and play on for another 3 or 4 years and get decent coin for it.

A team can carry/hold in the midfield at any moment one extremely slow player, providing that player is a high possession, tackling machine. Think Pridda.

You cannot stack a midfield with slow players as this (as we all know and have seen) results in being unable to cope with pressure placed on us and being unable to place any pressure on the opposition ball movement from half back.

Unfortunately Dom is not a 30+ a game possession winner or a 6+ game after game tackler.
Having Sheed and Gaff in the same team means that you effectively can have only one in the middle at any one time. And only then if surrounded by big bodied tacklers/ball winners and pacy outsiders.

A total lack of pace used to be a negative, now it has become a team liability.

Probably robs us off too much defensive ability to lock the ball in. The ball would slingshot out of our forwardline on turnover I reckon.

It'd only be 3 talls and 3 small/med at any one time. I agree if you had oscar/jd/maric/b.williams all on at the same time you'd be very vulnerable

Im not sure if you could just play 3 of them at once if you have OA, JD, Maric, Waterman BW and Flynn all in the team. That would mean we are carrying too much height on the bench and robs us of midfield legs. One of the above (Maric or Waterman) would need to miss or be played in a different position eg wing/HBF.

Absolutely staggered.
Horrible timing...
Why not just wait to see if he's able to play a full season after the majority of a season out.

Risk of losing him if we dicked him around with a contract.

Hawks made a big play for him last season.

Hypothetically he plays ever game in 2024 but we take a wait and see approach on a contract, Hawks or another club swoop.

Hindsight is of course a wonderful thing as his latest injury seems to have occurred after the contract was signed

Official

Two year deal signed before Christmas but announcement held off until the AFL ticked it off

Look forward to him being available come the back end of the year.

In the meantime, Ryan being out for the first half gives another look-in for Long, Hewitt, Brockman, and Reid more space for minutes at the same time. It cant hurt getting more games into the kids.

We have cash to burn in our salary cap, so no issues there. If his hammies are really stuffed then he can take a medical retirement at the end of the year and we can pay his contract outside the cap in 2025.

I’m sure this will be picked up by a few commentators over the coming days. Unfit player comes back from preseason unfit and rewarded with a contract yada yada yada

Given the deal ticked off prior To Christmas it surely would be indicating he’s been doing the program we’ve asked of him off field. I’ve got no concerns with the contract- when fit he’s quality and has X-Factor we lack so much. His start to last year pre-injury was top notch.

Anyone who says he came back for preseason out of shape is just plain wrong

He was training well before the Christmas break albeit he usually sat out any full ground match sims. Was involved in all the other competitive contact work though

Would see similar fracture to the group if you bought in tim english imo(unless flynn/williams combo is shite and Barnett isn't tracking well).the fact westcoast didn't even bother to get a KPD in this year's draft when there were heaps (murphy/zztop/shoenmaker) and easy to get says they rate bazzo very highly. Unless there is an actual position vacant I think you go to the draft. We are a bit lean in the mid and wings our best FA target should be Liam baker he fits the vacancy and would be the perfect age demographic

Busslinger would be a great trade.
