Knock on Sheldrick was his defensive game I believe.
It's why he wasn't getting a game at the start of this season despite their extensive injuries to the midfield at the time.
If a midfielder can't be bothered chasing and working with the teams defensive structure they aren't worth it. And if he can't work out that he needs to start working on it then he's not worth it

Also see W.Brodie at Fremantle as another example

Don Sheed described to a tee.

What's the **** Tobie travaglia is 187 cm. The dude taking a bunch of intercepts is only 187cm.

Seriously I thought he was 192cm plus taking intercept marks as a tall defender.

That was his selling point marking and kickig. The short dude isn't going to translate to AFL as an elite Backman by basing his game around intercept marking.

My want for him has tanked. A 187cm defender with his game being at excelling marking and kicking is no way worth it.
What a poor take. Do better.

Is Sheldrick going to be this years Dev?
Been several ‘this years Dev’ on this boarf.

Don’t understand why people cry about players from other clubs getting mentioned on here. It is a draft and Trade page?

Also plenty of blokes we missed out on playing regular footy this year who people don’t want because they didn’t play very week for their club last year. Mass and Bramble would fit nicely across half back for us for nothing.

Not everyone has to be a home run, load some bases first

Might need a 3rd rounder for Malakai after all. Flip of the coin with Ralph.

Interesting stuff, wonder what happens if Malakai is bid on at 41. Surely we just use our next pick to match, essentially they'd had the same value.

Also that reads as if academy players for all clubs can be matched anywhere.

Our forward line will work just fine with Allen waterman and the back up ruck .

Waterman in his running/roaming forward role .

Allen CHF which suits him as a lead up marking type forward .

Jack Williams is the one we need coming out of the square. The kid who is still 20 has a massive frame and when he fills out at his 198cms he will be that Quinton lynch / tom Hawkins power forward size .

He is already really good at using his body to out manoeuvre his opponents taking some strong pack marks with strength alone .

He has also shown he uses his body better than bailey in the ruck around the ground on the big boys in witts , gawn and O'Brien

Sicily is only 189cm.

I reckon most of these draftee heights might've been taken end of last year. For instance Smillie I'm certain was 194cm late last year and this is still his listed height - I reckon he might be 197+ come draft combine. Tyler Welsh is still listed as 191cm and I'm certain that will change.

Travaglia doesn't turn 18 until the 26th of October. Him growing to 190+ seems like a relatively safe bet IMO.

Didn't he play round 1?

Agree totally. JD needs a rest and JW come in with OA and Jake. JD is not the future. Use him as cover and cannon fodder. Start getting the three younger boys melding

I'll ask him on Sunday if his height has changed this year.

Most of us consider Shep a reach at pick 7. I'd say he would still be a reach up until pick 15 (I still personally think reach until pick 17).

Also he was pick 7 drafted as an intended midfielder
Why compare him to Shepard? He doesn't project as the same type of player. Typically, the best rebounding HBFs go in the range of about pick 6 - 16. Which is TT's range, but probs more towards the back of that range than the front, like 13-16.

And, anyway, is Shep worth a pick 13-16. You bet he is.

Had a look back at the 2009 draft

With the benefit of hindsight the only players I’m taking before Sheppard at pick 7 are

Definitely
• Martin (3)
• Fyfe (20)
• Gawn (34)

Maybe
• Cunnington (5)
• Talia (13)
• Jetta (14)
• Duncan (28)
• Gunston (29)

He wasn’t a bad get for a pick 7 even if he was considered a reach at the time

Shep was a midfielder when drafted right? We were lucky he was able to become the backman he did

Just had a quick look at the average age and games/experience for us in the first half of the season.

Age (Years)

We have been the younger team in 69% of our games by an average of roughly 3 months.

Not won a game where our average age is greater than 25.5

Our averaging winning age (25.36) is less than our averaging losing age (25.47) #playthekids

8th youngest team on average 25.45

AFL Average: 25.7

Oldest: Pies 27.5

Youngest: North 24

Experience (Games)

We have been the team with the least experience in 62% of games by an average of 3.42 games.

One win we had less experience (Melbourne) & in the other two wins (Tigers & Freo) we were the more experienced team.

Our average winning experience (95.06) is also less than our average losing experience (95.8) #playthekids

9th least experience team on average 95.63 games.

AFL Average: 99.3

Most experienced: Geelong 125.9

Least Experienced: North 69.6

As an oppo supporter I like this analysis. If you took out darling and add in Reid as outliers you would find that your average games would significantly reduce meaning that one player distorts the numbers

This talk about chasing the Warner Brothers is too soon. It will cost at least a pick 2 or 3 and maybe more

I would personally wait another 2 years before we start picking off players, preferably those that are FA and when we have the cap space to blow away matching it.

If Warner who is OOC at the end of next season says he wants to come home. You 100% have a crack and if he picks the Eagles as his destination you get the trade done. The acceleration a player does of the quality to a rebuild is next level and also helps keep Reid around. The unknown of what pick 3 turns out to be doesn’t. Could be a Dow/Philips ect
