Not sure I can remember a time when pick 1 in the PSD has had a player they wanted to keep asking for a trade either ? Unless I missed one

We’ll just ignore that he can go into the ND, and that that’s been a rule since 2009?

I mean, I’m sure there’s plenty of examples of what you’ve said anyway. A wooden spoon team having a required player ask for a trade? Wouldn’t be uncommon.

So how many of our players are on 2 or less years?
The ones that are young, or close to retirement. you're the one who said you're all for small contract lengths, then for someone reason referenced Simpson in a thread on players.

Personally I’m all for small contract lengths, WTF is wrong with a 2 year contract?
We’ve just come off a disastrous patch where Simmo was on a 5 year contract, a number of older players, Gaff for example on long contracts when they were clearly stuffed.
2 year contracts sound bloody tremendous to me, perform or **** off!

If you want to keep your best players, you have to offer them long contracts.

Anyone can be a hindsight hero though, as you've repeatedly shown.

That wouldn’t be something he would do. Anyone besides Nick Stevens done that ?

Nick Stevens didn’t, it wasnt available then. Luke Ball and Ben Jacobs are the two examples that spring to mind. It hasn’t really happened since, but that’s because it hasn’t had to because clubs have just done the trades.

Well there marks the cherry on top of Devs shit sandwich. He stayed and is now going to he watching lions play in grand final as a cheerleader. Not even an emergency.

If he had fire in his belly he would be packing his bags right about now

You really need to drop your obsession with Dev.

It sounds unhinged TBH.

Carlton took Jack Martin through the PDS

You always been a Simmo Hero boy, this is fun!
So getting back to the discussion, the original post was about Garcia, a player who has played half the year playing in the VFL unable to cement a spot in the Western Bulldogs AFL team.
Apparently WC have offered said player a 2 year contract, which you clearly find grossly inadequate.
It is not my thinking that is flawed but yours clearly is, a 2 year contact for a player of that ilk is more than sufficient.

I was asked for examples of players putting themselves into the ND.

Martin and Hately went straight to the PSD because they were guaranteed to get to their team of choice that way.

Ball and Jacobs didn’t because they were better off going to the ND.

Since that became an option, I’m not aware of any uncontracted player who’s either given up on a trade request and re-signed, or gone into the draft but ended up back at the club they tried to leave.

Every uncontracted player since then who’s asked for a trade has got to their destination one way or the other. Unlike contracted players, where there’s a few examples (eg Papley, Mitch Brown, Kelly in 2018) of players who’ve ended up having to stay.

Which is why there’s a clear difference between Bolton’s situation and Baker’s. (Which is where this started)

You’ve been arguing no player should get more than two years, and you’re pointing to one (reported) offer to one fringe player as proof you’re right and bzparkes is wrong.

Classic.

I've long moved on, he lives rent free in your head.

How do you get him to move if another club's offering 2 in Vic? Despite being born in WA, it's much easier to stay where you are if another club's offering a similar deal.

You have to offer them more if you want them to commit, it's as simple as that.

You won't be getting many, if any, successful trades offering them 2 years and the ones that do come would be de-list material to begin with.

Dream on!
I have never argued no player is worth more than 2 years. Prove me wrong.

Care to clarify the below then?

He lives rent paid in your head, what a Simmo fan boy comment………I expect nothing less.

He’s a WA boy that could move home to an almost guaranteed starting 18 role, a 2 year contract is fine.
