How many contacts did Waterman have before absolutely dominating and earning himself a long term deal?
What the hell is wrong with letting Garcia come to WC earn his stripes and then get a bigger contract if he’s earned it?

As someone else asked … is there a single example you can point to of an uncontracted player not getting to the club he nominates?

Not since Nick Stevens and Jade Rawlings in the mid-2000s, before players could go into the ND.

Come up with an example. I’ll wait.
As I said, it’s from 16 years ago when the rules were different.

Since uncontracted players were allowed to put themselves in the ND, I don’t think there’s been a single example of one not ending up where he wanted to go.
You asked for a single example and you were given one. You didn’t state a timeframe. You can add whatever fine print you want after the fact but don’t injure yourself shifting those goal posts.

And to be fair, yesterday a poster was querying James Hird’s draft profile from 35 years ago so 16 isn’t actually that bad in terms of recency relevance on this board..

I’m still waiting
bzparkes pointed it out.

Personally I’m all for small contract lengths, WTF is wrong with a 2 year contract?
We’ve just come off a disastrous patch where Simmo was on a 5 year contract, a number of older players, Gaff for example on long contracts when they were clearly stuffed.
2 year contracts sound bloody tremendous to me, perform or **** off!

I stated a timeframe. I qualified it by saying “Not since Nick Stevens and Jade Rawlings in the mid-2000s, before players could go into the ND.” (ie the only bit of my post you didn’t put in bold).

I didn’t realize that also applied to O’Keefe, but it did.

My argument hasn’t changed.

noun
noun: inertia

1.
a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged.

2.
a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force.

He lives rent paid in your head, what a Simmo fan boy comment………I expect nothing less.

He’s a WA boy that could move home to an almost guaranteed starting 18 role dip shit, a 2 year contract is fine.
Premiership number four:

If you can’t post without constantly bringing up Simmo, you won’t post. Cheers.

No. You claimed that I claimed that no player deserved more than a 2 year contract which I never did.
You are wrong, but your ridiculous ego ****s you up🤣
Run along!

“I’m all for two year contracts, two year contracts are tremendous, what’s wrong with two year contracts, those longer contracts screwed us”.

But you’re not against longer contracts.

Got it.

If Garcia comes to WC on a 2 year deal, I will forever remember this regrettable discussion🤣

Someone else* can correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think anyone actually has an issue with a two year contract for Garcia?

It set you off on a rant about longer contracts, and that’s what people had an issue with. Not Garcia specifically.

*(not you, someone with a grasp on reality)

Shall we offer Carroll a 4 year contract because 2 clearly isn’t enough? Or is 3 the idealised magic number🤣
****ing hilarious and a real show of intellect!
Or is this a special number just for mostly VFL player Garcia?

The O’Keefe trade attempt was after the period in time that you had confidently stated “not since”. So despite your smugness in trying to call out a fellow poster, you were wrong. Clearly too stubborn to fall on your sword too so carry on in your delusion comrade

I love this. People keep coming back at me with bullshit but I’m the one who prolongs arguments, apparently.

O’Keefe tried to move to Hawthorn in 2008, the trade didn’t happen, he couldn’t go in the ND, Hawthorn as reigning premiers had the last pick in the PSD so he stayed at Sydney: https://www.afl.com.au/news/472300/okeefe-trade-hits-impasse

The rule allowing players in that position to go into the ND came in the following year, Ball used it to move to Collingwood.

I assume I won’t get an apology. I’ll happily own up to being wrong about that if it happens, stubborn and smug and deluded as I am.

I've long moved on, he lives rent free in your head.

How do you get him to move if another club's offering 2 in Vic? Despite being born in WA, it's much easier to stay where you are if another club's offering a similar deal.

You have to offer them more if you want them to commit, it's as simple as that.

You won't be getting many, if any, successful trades offering them 2 years and the ones that do come would be de-list material to begin with.
Yes, I think you’re right. Two years is not very long, not much of a commitment if you’re asking someone to change states.
It’s just about a bottom of the barrel contract for players you are only moderately interested in.
Three years is about standard.

Drafted with the pick we got for Gehrig.

Quality out (Gehrig), quality in (Kerr).

Hopefully it's the same with Barrass.
Yeah it’s not like for like with Barrass and Baker is it? 2nd round for baker at most hopefully.

Galls me to hear Geelong will probably only pay pick 15 for Bailey Smith who is a far superior player to Baker. Yet there’s a narrative that we should be paying more for Baker.

Two out of contract players of completely different ilk and the media looking more favourably at Geelong, as always. Pack of shunts

Dude, let it go. FFS.

Don't make me get my cat to piss on all of your furniture.
Can we please get back to the tedious ticking of time until something may or may not happen? I'll start.

Let's try and sign up Mitch Georgiades, he's a strapping young lad in an area we're desperately short on.
Discuss.
Our pick 3, Barass pick 13 and a future 2nd should do it? Thoughts?

We'll, he signed a 3-year contract. Let's offer him a 2 year one. He'll come across for sure.
