Good point but sure how Lindsay is a punt. Very consistent season, had a PCL (not ACL) injury which is being managed non operatively and 13 is not a reach after Ashcroft, Lombard and Kako bids taking it to 16 at best.

Mraz has an asterisk near to his name for his injury but apparently his CT is all clear but I’d want to see it. Would be an excellent foil for Harry Edwards due to his athleticism.
With darling gone they could look at gerryn at 23 and send Archer to chb under gov. Pretty sure will scho was impressed by dennis so that'd mean westcoast are into him.

3 fos/draper
13 Lindsay
23 gerryn
40(darling) dennis

I really don't follow the draft with any intricacy. Only what I read from here.

Just came across Cal Twomey's phantom form guide, with Levi Ashcroft coming in at 1. Thing I noticed though is that he's shorter than Jagga Smith at 179cm. Height seems to be the knock on Jagga, but doesn't seem to apply to Ashcroft.

Any reason?

It's not height with Jagga but his size.

Has the build of a wet rag, despite focusing on footy this year and not doing school.

Ashcroft is a bit of a meataxe in comparison.

Still, Smith's held up well in the VFL, so that would've allayed a lot of fears.

Concerns, rightly or wrongly about Smith's ability to pack on muscle.

Based on Cal’s rankings if we take O’Sullivan at 3, Lindsay at 13 and then one of O’Farrell or Mraz* at 23 that’s about as good of a result as we could hope for other than Travaglia sliding to 13.

Absolutely no need to trade for Baker or get cute with this in what’s going to be one of the most important drafts in the club’s history.
Agree 100%.
This is one draft where we want to maximise our draft hand, even if that means we miss out on the myriad of players who either want to come back to WA or we are interested in bringing over (Baker, Bolton, Peatling, Perryman, Garcia, Carroll, Dev, Preuss, Bock).

Would not be against trading out our F1 (likely top 4) for more capital in this years draft. Something like for 2 lower 1st rounders, e.g. Carltons pick 11 + F1 - which they'd be backing it in to be close to pick 18. Leaves us with Carlton's and Hawthorn's F1's next year.

But maybe I'm overestimating the value of future picks and nobody would do anything other than a direct 1-for-1 swap of picks.

The concern about Smith is not his height but his weight/build.

He is very lightly built, no weights allowed these days but probably 65 - 70 kg, other draftees near his height are probably nearing 80 kg. Can he translate his game to the AFL with bigger bodies?

Ashcroft 179cm
M Reid 180cm
Draper 180cm
Jagga 181cm
FOS 182cm

All much the same but Jagga is very slightly built. I wouldn’t be concerned, a couple of preseasons in the weights room and he should catch up.

Fyfe was very skinny when drafted but ended up a monster, although he is tall.

Jagga can live and train with Reuben until he packs on some muscle!

Is Trainor a flight risk?

Seems to be sliding a tad on Cal's rankings, alternatively seems like Travaglia is rising...

What makes this draft so good? We need to rebuild our squad to be competitive using any levers possible. Keep pick 3 and Hawks R1 but I don't mind trading other picks to get players in mid 20s to round out our depth. If we rely on draft alone, we'll never finish the rebuild, as our mid aged players will age out by the time the draftees today get to mid age.

I don't want Baker at the price he is likely to go for (our R2). Would rather a Peatling/Garcia

Archer is so talented and with his athletic profile I’d much rather develop him as a KPF. Getting him onto a big gym program over summer and out of the Beagles ASAP should be a priority.

Gerreyn looked good in the flesh at the champs, we just need to take the best KPD with that pick 23 IMO and if the club rates him as that player then so be it. I’ve been keen on Dennis all year also getting him or Barrat with a later pick would be good business.

Happy to trade F1 provided we value it as pick 2, we (as a club, not you) should really get out of the mentality of undervaluing our future picks as you say. Pick 41 would have been a fantastic pick to have this year and most likely gets us another good player before Champion.

Guys like Davis , gerryne , hargrave , Herbert look to be all in that 30-50+ range

Would love 3 , 13 , 23 , then 2 extra picks before malakai bid

This is the year to take 6 draftees IMO .

We'll struggle to get two firsts for Barrass so hopefully it get settles with Hawks 1st and the Pies 2nd rounder.

Very good player, probably top 5 if he doesn't get hurt this year. I compared him to Sheezel on here earlier in the year, so I would definitely take him, provided he's not a flight risk
Athletically very good, possibly the best in the draft prior to doing his knee. His kicking was quite suspect though and was a little turn off for me.

Smith sounds like Chris Masten. Good as a junior but never got big enough to play onball in AFL, so went to the wing. Not worth pick 3.
Unlike Masten when Jagga has uncontested possession he is slippery and agile to evade people. Give Jagga uncontested ball and space and he can weave magic
