Getting Baker this year makes no sense from a club perspective. He is a free agent next year and we could have picked him up then at 0 cost to our draft capital. These are the kind of decisions that you never see Geelong make, they would tell baker to wait or nor worry about it. I get that Baker wants to come this year, but to be successful the needs of the club should come over the wants of the individual.

Its the kind of list move you do if you are competing for a flag and believe the next season is massively important

Clay Hall if we are honest. Its beginning to look like a absolute bizarre pickup. We gave up on the guy like 2 weeks into his career
He might still be worthy of being a full time mid, but not next year. Maybe the year after. You all expecting these 18/19yo mids to be ready made full time mids like Harley, is delusional.

Full time in the midfield since drafted as top 10 pick

2020 draft
Nil

2021 draft
Daicos
Horn Francis

Only in the last yr
Ward, Rachelle, callaghan

2022 draft
Ashcroft
Wardlaw

Sheezel this yr.

2023 draft
Reid

But he’s not a free agent, he’s out of contract now as you say. So we’d be relying on him signing a one year deal with Richmond, which is already unlikely enough even if you ignore that they’d never want to keep him on as a one year rental knowing he’s not in their mid term plans. Then he walks for nothing rather than getting them some assets back now, so even less reason for the Tigers to help him reach FA.

There’s a 0% chance we could just wait a year and get him as a FA.

Don’t try and make too much sense mate he will get a head spin. I still can’t tell if he’s delusional or just a really good troll.

My preference would’ve been to focus solely on the draft but seeing as that isn’t happening and in all likelihood most of us will be disappointed with what we give up for Baker, we may as well go after Bolton to try and make the deal look better

Would 3,13 and 23 get us Baker, Bolton and 6?

Richmond seemingly want to pair Jagga and FOS, I think a top 3 pick greatly appeals to them more so than 9 and 16 from Fremantle.

Again, I’d prefer the draft but getting better immediately with Baker and Bolton + still adding a top end mid or Travaglia / Lindsay at 6 is somewhat appealing.

Could still trade the Hawks F1 to get back into this years draft as well assuming we net that.

Exactly my point. The club should not be the one bending. Richmond don't want him on a one year deal he can go to the pre season draft. If Baker doesn't want to do it then we move on without him. We need our draft capital more than Baker.

We could have worked it next year so Richmond got a first round compo so would have worked for them also.

Geez I hope we don't do anything stupid and offer up pick 3

Freo have a very young list profile, don’t need a bunch of kids this year, are close to contention and really need a dynamic small forward.

Oh and they have three firsts.

It simply has to be Freo, and I’ve said it before they should throw the kitchen sink because Freo with Bolton should be flag favourites.

The sad part is its a chance of being true though. In all reality its kind of my biggest melt overall with this. The fact I need to consider it as a possibility is sad

This.

We are all too familiar with the following:
  • opening line in the media for trades being to the advantage of the opposing club
  • hearing nothing from the Eagles to refute that
  • letting that story become the consensus opinion of "fair terms"
  • then seeing West Coast deal to that consensus, and pretend it yielded good value.

The confidence gained from holding on to pick 1 last year was completely eroded by what the club offered on draft night for D.Curtin.

I just hope the new team in charge has a far better handle on managing trades than those previously involved.

In all honesty, hawks future 1st would probably get it done, that is if we get the pick with 13.

The only reason Baker would join us is if he knows Bitchmond are getting a good deal.

Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to get fu*ked in the ass by 'mini', Clarke and Richmond.

Nah man, caution based on past indicators = Bedwetting.

Fingers crossed the new leadership is better than what we've endured during trade week. And draft night.

Having had a good think about the way the Lions went about it on the weekend with Neale and Ashcroft so clean by hand being helped by some bigger bodies in Dunkley and Berry.

If Jagga slipped to pick 3 maybe it could be a really good thing for our midfield. I’ve been concerned about his frame and whether it will be big enough for finals footy at AFL level.

He’s so clean below his knees in contested ball and distribution by hand is very good. Racks the ball up and is as close a player to Will Ashcroft as there is in the draft. (Excluding Levi who we can’t get.)

Just need some big bodies in there to help him out physically.
