We're not too worried about taking interstate kids Briztoon. Our track record speaks for itself.

In 36 years in the competition our biggest losses have been Fraser Gehrig (2000) Chris Judd (2007) Scott Lycett (2018) who wanted to stay but we couldn't afford him & Junior Rioli. For Gehrig, Judd and Lycett we were compensated well.

Sprinkle in Brad Ebert, Scott Selwood, Matt Rosa, Brent Staker, Chad Morrison, Mitchell White................. and then it's give aways no one remembers.

All the while players such as Shannon Hurn, Andrew Gaff, Luke Shuey, Liam Duggan, Jack Redden, Beau Waters, Adam Selwood, David Wirrpanda, Sam Butler, Michael Braun, Will Schofield...etc have bought into our culture and club.

You are probably right that we may take a home grown kid and we do tend to favour the local home grown talent when it's relatively even between a couple of candidates but we don't let it dictate how we draft.

If someone is there we can't refuse (Humphreys, Cadman, Wardlaw, Clark, Tsatas) the club won't hesitate for a second to draft them.

And we got decent returns out of what we got for Gehrig (Kerr) and Judd (Kennedy & Masten)

Doubt we will get Livingston through NGA his end of this season was too good this year
Looked the best forward in colts towards the end of season
His aggression at the footy smashing packs and talking footy at highest point was joy to watch
I think he is a top 20 pick next year I have the 5th best WA underager at this stage.
He has such a high ceiling as a genuine big forward who is good on the lead but can take a pack mark
Just needs to play the season as a forward only small stints in the ruck

Lots of really good ruck options next year which is good :whitecheck: Lots of good tall's period next year.

RE my post was a bit of a piss take on the all WA draftees.

Agree big time that Livingston needs to be played predominantly as a forward, next year, as he isn't a good ruckman , serviceable but not quite tall enough to ruck at AFL.
I suspect that Scotch will ruck him but hope that Perth and WA play him as a KPF.
As I have posted earlier and elsewhere about him, I love his physicality and natural engagement with the argy barge.

Also agree that there is ZERO chance he doesn't get drafted in the first 40, so the NGA status counts for zilch.

Hey all, I come in peace

What do you think of this deal

Wait for GWS to snare pick 7 from Geelong as part of Bruhn trade.

Then trade pick 2, 20 for 7,12 and 15

Package up 7 and 15 for Jackson, take 12 to the draft.
You had me up until the last bit. I’d happily take 7, 12 and 15 to the draft this year. They are sweet spots imho

So we finally have a guy in our NGA who's worth getting...
and we can't have him.

There is really no benefit in having an NGA unless you are Brisbane, Gold Coast etc. and can match picks at any level.

I keep reading how we "Didn't take pick 27", namely from you Keys

When did that actually happen?

Far as I'm aware Rohan flagged we wanted 27 as a minimum, with WCE "ideally wanting more".

Nekminnut Port trade 27 to Melbourne. When was it ever actually offered to us? What media reported on that exchange?

I'm not one for defending Rohan obviously but as far as I can see Port are the stupid campaigners who have dogged us and traded the obvious pick for Rioli to another team instead, leaving them nothing but 33 and 43 now to barter with?

Can't fathom actually getting offered 27 for Rioli and O'Brien saying no. Don't believe that, it's a pretty fair and expected compensation.

WCE said they want more than the Amon compo. So I dont think we were officially offered it but Port went oh well you dont want that then someone else can have it

Sadly ain't that the truth, Crows will be pissed that they wont get Keeler this year, the same way Melbourne were last year with Mac Andrew.

No way to camouflage it, the Norther States Favoured Club Status, is a massive "Leg Up" from AFL House.

AFL even gives them extra picks, that they then piss up against the wall, by squandering the picks away to the likes of Geelong of the Comp, for a salary dump.
Gold Coast, now doing it two years in a row.
Just highlights the pitfalls of rewarding incompetent football operations management and on field mediocrity.

The beggars will just keep begging on the streets as long as, those at AFL house keep topping up their rattly tins with spending money.
It is and has been a blight on the integrity of the competition, for far too long now and even more offensive is that it makes a mockery of the efforts that the well managed Clubs do.

Let's be honest - there would be no soft cap, if the basket case Clubs improved their income steams and managed the resources that they have been already given, with more care and appreciation.

There was a link posted to the Hard Ball Gets podcast where Ryan Daniels said Port offered 27 and we said no

Won’t lie, it surprised me because that was the first time I’d seen or heard that mentioned and I’d posted earlier today that I believed port hadn’t offered anything yet

So that’s where the info comes from. Knowing port they were probably asking for something back but that’s me guessing rather than it being said

I was hoping for something around 20 for Rioli. 27 feels like slightly unders but if they don't have pick 20 then what can you do? But my reading of the public comments thus far from Port and from Nisbett is that the 27 was never offered. They have been trying to pile up the fringies on us instead.

Swapping pick 2 for pick 8 and Ports first rounder next year is a terrible idea. Port had a bad year this year and are badly coached but they have a top 4 list, especially after all this topping up and an early finish to this year which gives them an extra month for their post season surgeries and pre season. Their first next year could be in the 20's if they finish top 2 and there are more Father/Sons or priority picks get dished out.

I am not opposed to splitting pick 2 but this mooted deal is a terrible idea.

And a Daniel Curtin / Koltyn Tholstrup pairing would be even better.

Then if we could manage the draft so that we picked up Mitchell Edwards with an early second and then position ourselves to add Riley Hardeman.

Get Livingston through the NGA.

Now that would be a sensational draft haul. ;)

Care to elaborate on these kids? and how they would fit in the future 22?

If you ask me the biggest joke is Sydney. They basically got two number 1 picks in Heeney and mills when they where a top 4 team and let's not forget Blakey and I believe gulden before the rule change.

Genuinely have no issue with GC and GWS having a leg up to establish themselves - considering the struggle they have with retention and player attraction but how Sydney a club that loses fewer players than most clubs and has attracted the biggest names in the game, Lockett, Franklin and even Hall and Tippett (yes hindsight suggest he was no good but at the time of recruitment was a big name) are given an armchair ride is ridiculous

Daniel Curtin Claremont: KPP 195cm 91 kg, left footer one touch, smooth, elite decision making plays both ends. Won the medal BOG Future Stars game.

Koltyn Tholstrup Subiaco: Hff /Mid very strong, plays taller than his 188cm goal kicker, perfect Cripps replacement, IMO also can play as a midfielder, hard as.

Mitchell Edwards Peel: Ruck 205cm best young ruck prospect from WA since Luke Jackson. Enormous talent and has the football world at his feet.

Riley Hardeman Swan Districts: 185cm Blistering pace wingman that runs all day, left footer with really good foot skills. Class act and a leader.

Seems I might have guessed right
Was talking to a guy who is close to the Port side of things.

Was told 27 was offered for Rioli and 39.

Port the self-pronounced fair traders being campaigners.

Colour me surprised

Argh ... give with one hand and take with the other.

So not quite as generous an offer as has been touted.
