Some of these campaigner teams are going to have to start to realise they don’t have the draft capital to get their deals done, and they’re going to have to lose a player somewhere.

So how about this?

Brisbane gain: Dunkley
Brisbane lose: future first, Robertson, Future second (Geelong)

Bulldogs lose: Dunkley
Bulldogs gain: Bergman, future first (Brisbane), pick 39

Port lose: Bergman
Port gain: Rioli, future second (Geelong)

Eagles gain: Robertson
Eagles lose: Rioli, pick 39

Edit: then

Geelong gain: Bowes, pick 7
Geelong lose: Ratugolea

Port gain: Ratugolea
Port lose: future second (Geelong)

Gold Coast gain: future second (Geelong)
Gold Coast lose: Bowes, pick 7

I like this, but I can't see Geelong agreeing to lose Ratugolea for Bowes and Pick 7 when as it stands currently, they could probably get the same for a future 2nd. At least that was the last I heard regarding that situation.

I'd split pick 2 for 2x guaranteed top ten picks.

Valued at 6 and 8 or 5 and 11 for arguments sake. In absence of anyone having those picks available right now in 2022 I don't see the value in testing our luck with the 2023 draft order.

If we hold onto 2 and someone offers us a trade on draft night that falls in our favour then so be it.

agreed. i really fancied 2+20 for 5+7 with GC but they messed that up with the bowes debacle. perhaps GWS would be keen on 2+20 for 3+12 if they are gagging for cadman. or 2 for 3+19 and we package 19+20 for the saints 9 or carltons 10.
really must extract maximum value from 2 if we do split it and that means two cracks at the top ten not 8 and a future bloody ~14 (or 15/16/17 after bids).

Why are we losing Rioli and giving up 39? Rioli’s more valuable than Robertson

He might be a better player as it currently stands but that's not the whole picture. I'd value Robertson over Rioli because he's younger, and has untapped potential. Also he seems to be loyal and have a great work ethic, unlike Rioli.

They gave away their future second today in a pick swap. This way it ends up going to Gold Coast anyway.

Geelong will probably be at the pointy end again next year and that pick will be mid-30s, I think that’s about the same as Ratugolea’s worth.

Touche, missed that bit of news. But yeah that lines up, mid 30s pick.

Haynes is a gun - I'd love him on the list.
He’s 30 and comes with a contract around $750k plus for 2 years

Great player agreed but he’s not for us, even if we do get a bonus 1st rounder

We’re not really screaming out for an intercept defender either.

Tbf I’d probably do it if GWS are offering a first to absorb his deal, not something I’d be thrilled with though by any means

There will be salary cap dumps every year now. With the expected retirements coming up that should leave us pretty poised to take on one or two (maybe even three) of them over the next few years whilst we are rebuilding and pick up some more high-draft picks with them.

I can't imagine we have loads of room right now with some of the players on our list, despite our table position but that will definitely ease over the next couple of years.

Why does Parkes keep asking posters if they’re having a stroke? Off to Pornhub with you!!

I think his avatar speaks for itself

You would want Rioli on 4x 500k contract with no strings?

* that.

Reckon Bombers would grab him if he went past North - they love a big name signing on a silly contract.
Without knowing how PSD contracts go, can't we offer him what we want if he goes through there?

If he is set on that contract that port offered he can go to the main draft or preseason draft .

Who ever picks him has to pay that contact with the terms attached

If a trade didn't get done he may come back and play for us on the contract we offered him . 3 years with behaviour clauses .

The worry is that this will inflate player salaries and all teams will end up having to dump players once they're in the premiership window (due to young players become good and demanding more cash). Clubs really need the ability to trade players to where the club wants, to keep the playing field even.

Apparently Hunter Clark gettable…wouldn’t mind if we get the saints involved with the Rioli trade…somehow
