So exactly what were the specific concerns for each player?

Or are you saying it shouldn't matter anyway?

Flight risk is nothing to worry about no matter the player or circumstances?
WC will back in their systems with some confidence as far as player retention goes.Yes we’ve lost the odd one Judd being the biggest name but I think culture at the time contributed heavily to that decision. The Gaffs,Butlers,Waters etc stayed

We currently have 33 players with confirmed contracts, 34 if you count Hurn. One of those players (Culley) is a rookie

So we have 8 list positions available (5 main, 3 rookie)

The contract status of West, Winder and Trew is yet to be confirmed

West involved in the preseason training footage - I think he's a safe bet to stay. Winder & Trew I'm indifferent about, but both are probably more talented than the average rookie pick with some degree of potential.

Those three you mentioned arent proven

Our talls are
We do have a midfield.

Recently we drafted Chesser, Hough, Clark, Culley.

We have O'Neil, L Edwards, Kelly, Sheed and SPS as mid aged mids.

And about to draft 3 more out of 4 or 5 picks.

Do you just want to draft mids with every pick
You need a minimum of 2 elite mids to challenge for a flag.

Whis elite on that list?

Depends on the player, doesn’t it?

If a player, let’s call him Harry S, no that’s too obvious, make it H.Sheezel, says during his draft interview “I think I’d really struggle away from Melbourne, I’m super close to my family and my religious community and I really think I’d be almost unable to function if I was taken out of that environment”, should the club still back in their systems?

I don't think a club thanks a player for his efforts, if they are moving him to the Rookie list. And if he does have a year left in his contract to run, he can't be on much money, so it would be more cost effective to cut him loose now and free up the spot for a low draft pick player or delisted free agent.

When the best you can come up with is bullshit in response, it's basically saying you can't put together a coherent argument. Using curse words to respond to people is quite low intellect and a weak way to respond.
And people basing their recruiting processes on whether or not people are going to run home to mummy Havent got a clue!!

If he was potentially a Judd or Buddy of course I would !! For all the “bullshit”( gee I love that word) on here about not picking potential go home boys and all the naming of players that have left various clubs over the years; how about you wise men give me the names of all the draftees we overlooked over the years because of it. Better still name one!!!

The way it read was inconclusive... You'd assume he has been, but normally they write with a commitment to rookie list him.

How odd for the Eagles to be obtuse with their sharing of information.

I look forward to finding out from Rhino Daniels that Langdon actually got an extension til 2027.

How on earth would we know that?

We’re not privy to draftees’ interviews.

Plus we have a decent draft hand next year, be better to put them on 1-year deals and see how they go in 2023. 5 in the main draft + 3 rookies is enough this year imo, unless we intend to grab a DFA.

The 5+3 list spots available doesn’t include any of Winder, West or Trew. If any of that trio are recontracted the number of spots will reduce

Plenty of posters thought/anticipated that Langdon should be taken off the main list and placed on the rookie list to see out his contract

Some thought he should just be delisted and paid out

Don’t think anyone expected the club would actually do it

It’s a shame for Langdon but it’s the right call assuming it’s not too much of a salary cap hit. He tried hard but just wasn’t quite up to it

Was a worthwhile enough trade for a late pick, although the 3 year contract was always a bit of a wtf moment.

Good luck to Zac and whoever inherits the prized No. 7 whipping boy jumper

You wouldn’t. Surely after all these years if it had occurred wouldn’t some word have gotten out?
Yet this years draft hasn’t even happened and we are getting “friends in the know” “reliable source” “concerns “.
In a nutshell I think some BFers put more importance on the go home factor than they do on talent. Before anyone goes off on another rant; yes everything would be taken into account but at the very top of the tree is talent, talent, talent.
As is oft stated (not by all) WC always take the best player available!!

Which should mean that at worst we have 4 main list spots (no way we upgrade West or Trew - at best they either have or get another rookie contract), only Winder on the main list from that group.

It looks very much like the plan is to take the 4 draft picks, then wait and see if someone falls later in the draft who we really want (I'm assuming into the 40's here - but if someone was there at pick 30-ish we have the future picks to trade for a pick at that level also).

Otherwise leave that spot open for either a DFA, or SSP etc.

1 extra year for less $$$ is understandable. Delisting also correct move. Small fwd position is now who though?

Good call on Langdon. He just isn’t an AFL standard player. Certainly not best 22, and I’d rather see what someone else has to offer. Does this mean Winder stays?
