We should have never traded pick 2 when we did. Should’ve went at least to draft night with it. The original offer would’ve still been there at worst.
I posted this earlier
Had the trade for 8 & 12 not been done there are some questions we don’t know the answer to :
1) Would North have traded pick 1 to GWS anyway
2) If we retained pick 2 would we have kept it for Cadman or been prepared to trade it to GWS

Best case scenario if those answers are no and yes as we could have ended up with 3 and 12 from GWS. Truth is though I think eventually GWS would have got pick 1

So assuming we kept 2 and can look at offers :
• Adelaide - Could offer their F1 and Norths F2. Notionally 5 and 19 in a superior draft is close to 8&12. Adelaide a good chance to finish higher and we delay a big part of our rebuild by 12 months
• Brisbane- have nothing to offer
• Carlton - Have 10 and their F1. Even if they added 29 that’s still worse than 8&12
• Collingwood - Their best offer would be 16,25,27 and no ability to offer future picks. That’s no use
• Essendon - Could give 4 and 22. There’s a drop in talent available from 12 to 22 that doesn’t offset the difference between 4 and 8
• Fremantle - Lol. They’ve got nothing
• Geelong - Pick 7 and donuts
• Gold Coast - Pick 5 and maybe GWS F2 which they hold. Worth considering but with who they’re looking at I don’t think they’re trading up anyway
• GWS - Have 15,18,19 and Richmond’s F2 they could use. Even if they offered 3 of those I think 8&12 is better. They wouldn’t offer their F1
• Hawthorn - Pick 6 and 24 is worse than Essendon have. Their F1 is being positioned for Harley Reid and would be off limits
• Melbourne - 13 and Freo’s F1. Maybe if we thought Freo were going to slide out of the 8. Still a delay of sorts to our rebuild
• North - in this alternate universe they would have 8&12 to offer us most likely. Funny that
• Port - Have nothing
• Richmond - Have nothing
• Sydney - 14&17. Adding their F1 doesn’t help
• St Kilda - 9 and their F1 is probably the closest to trumping 8&12 but unlikely they’d offer that without something going back given the strength of next years draft
• Bulldogs - 11 and their F1 wouldn’t be too bad assuming it was on the table. They also have Brisbanes F1 as an alternative to their own.

It’s very hard to find a scenario that had we kept 2, we’d be better off with by waiting to draft night

I don’t think we need to be second guessing whether we should have done the trade. It was good business and made sense

Sydney want to trade their picks to get into the 2nd round this year and improve their draft hand next year

I think I’d be offering them 20 and our future 2nd for 14

That way the club can get Allan and Hewett if that’s who they are desperate for, maybe even would open the door up for Jefferson or Busslinger at 12 too

What’s everyone think? Would you guys explore a deal like that?

I feel like we’d be just as likely, maybe more so, to get a good player with pick 20 and an F2, than with 14 this year

Don't want to happen...

1. Jump in at 8 (or even 12) on Allan.
2. Jump in for a tall KPF before pick 20
3. Use any pick on a HBF who may turn into a mid.

Want to happen...

1. Get Phillipou or Clark or MacKenzie with 8
2. Get Hewett with 12.
3. Ginbey is the big slider.
4. One of Ginbey, Allan or Busslinger lasts to our third pick. Let's be honest, someone slides, they have to.

A lot of mock drafts have GWS picking up Hewett with one of their picks in the late teens. The GWS recruiting manager was on afl.com.au this afternoon saying that, as GWS are still a young developing club, they are looking for players with talent but also solid character that they can build the club around.

If there are questions over some of Hewett's off field decisions, would that effect GWS picking him up?

The afl.com.au guys were also saying something about St Kilda possibly using their first pick to take their Next Gen player who won't make it to their 2nd pick.

Sydney want to trade for first round picks in next year’s draft.

This mastermind is going to derail our dream draft.

Best case
Pick 8: Poo/ Clark / Mackenzie
Pick 12: Hollands / Busslinger / Ginbey
Pick 20: Hewett / Allan
Pick 26: George / Barnett

Worst case
Pick 8: Allan
Pick 12: Jefferson
Pick 20: Gilbey
Pick 26: some big reach (Notte, Weedon, Newman like)

Likely case
Pick 8: Ginbey
Pick 12: Hewett / Busslinger
Pick 20: George / Barnett
Pick 26: Hotton/ Burgiel

Ancient Chinese proverb say;

"Trade future picks this year, miss out on super draft next year"

It seems that some clubs are still very unsure what they want, need and like in the top 10.

Bombers wanting out of pick 4 is dodoro being greedy. I recon they want poo and tsatas. Assume they can't get it done

Flying to Dunsborough is serious smoke and mirrors shit if they're not interested. I recon suns take ginbey. That was to tick it off.

Hawks interviewing ginbey today is to see what the fuss is about just in case the one or 2 they've got eyes on go early. McKenzie/clarke

Cats don't need mids (imo). Busslinger is right in the wheelhouse. There biggest need long term is the Heir Apparent to Hawkins/Cameron....any top 5 big forward underagers coming through to next year's draft?

That means one of either poo/tsatas, and either clark/McKenzie and Hewett, Humphrey get through to both our picks.

At that point I would be very happy with any 2 of these 6

Sydney were also talking about Hewitt as a potential pick, which would be pick 15 or 18, so we should def lock in Hewitt at pick 13 if we want him.
