West Coast executive Craig Vozzo is down to the final few candidates in Essendon’s CEO search. He spent a number of years as Eagles head of football before moving to senior counsel. The Bombers hoping to announce an appointment by their AGM in a fortnight

Well... no?

Not the reaction the camera suggests. He was ice cold on the phone to Simmo when he legit "finds out" for the first time he's going to be an eagle.... righto.

And 2 mins later after he and his family already know he's going to West Coast, they look the camera dead in the eye and fist pump/celebrate like they've just done the final play in Remember the Titans.

I mean... doesn't add up does it?

This practice is very common in the NFL, where the head coach get the honours and makes the call, or in some cases the scout that stood on the table for the player. Hewett in general comes across very polished in the impersonal conversation, so I doubt it was stage. There is still that nervousness that the name might not actually be called, and of course he's surrounded by family - the joy looked genuine, not what he portrays in interviews.

I like the practice, let's the player have a personal moment with coach and would obviously get them hyped for the announcement.

The Pieman has gone the private school route again.

Ginbey - Wesley Perth
Hewett - Guildford Grammar/Scotch
Barnett - Mercedes Adelaide
Burgiel - Wesley Melbourne
Long - Geelong Grammar

Assuming no scholarship, apart from Mercedes which is about $10k pa, the rest are around $30k pa with boarding being about double that.

The 2 Victorian boys are used to being away from home as boarders, so relocation should be relatively easy. The look on Barnett's face makes me think he will be keen to

Certainly here in Victoria I would absolutely assume a scholarship. (although I'm less sure about Wesley and GG handing out scholarships for footballers - certainly Hailebury, Caulfield and Xavier do so - I'd assume they all do at least partial scholarships for these kids)

How did you/ your team rate the other boys we drafted? Did Carlton feel the same way about Ginbey as you? Would they have considered him at their first pick?

Were really focussed on trying to trade up for Jakob Ryan or Cowan. Happy to get Cowan and Lemmey (he will require some adjustment but top 3 talent doesn't just disappear)

Personally I think the biggest winners of the draft were Geelong, Carlton and WCE. If WCE had of drafted Gilbey as a rookie I would have had them as outright winners.

For Geelong to outfox me and select Clark instead of Busslinger but then get Phoenix Foster late was a masterstroke. Foster imo will be one of the best KPP in this draft and will play KPD at AFL level.

Right i'm back, im half awake, happy to answer any questions. Carlton went against my recommendation on Binns. I still don't rate Ginbey's production or kicking.

I'm not leaving Caves road i think for 3-4 days unless its to go to the yallingup bakery and grab a jam and cream donut.
Carlton went against your recommendation on Binns because you don't work for Carlton. And if you did you'd be sacked for leaking all this Intel online and being unprofessional.

Phil ya legend…

Is Broadbent just no good? From potential 1st round to undrafted.

Also do you believe Kinnear? From my uneducated view, the bids were just made to buy more time (instead of actively wanting the players)

in life there will always be someone looking to take you down a peg, it's usually when your onto something and they are jealous. Tall poppy syndrome, it's very common is this country. We get jealous of the success of others or if someone treads on our turf and shows us up. Many on here get jealous of Callum twomey and knightmare and rubbish them, it's tall poppy syndrome, it's jealousy and it's pathetic

The private school route…. I wonder what the percentage of the top say 80 draftees are at private schools?
I’d imagine it’s fairly high due to scholarships being handed out and parents knowing it’s good pathway for there talented child?

“You clearly don’t have any inside info because leaking it online would be unprofessional. No one would do that.

Also I totally gave you guys inside info and it turned out to be true, look how great I am, suck it losers.”

Sob, had forgotten how good the jam and cream donuts are at Yallingup....

His intel wasn't correct because he doesn't work for Carlton, think about it. A Carlton recruiter revealing their inner workings on a internet forum? Business dealings in Asia? Medical treatment in Switzerland? What a croc
He's not a recruiter mate, he did psych evaluations for the club.

Clearly you prefer to comment before reading.

And it doesn't matter after the fact.

@7NewsMelbourne

I'd be carefully reviewing who is chairing the selection panel.... They are probably box-seat for the job.
