looking at all the 2024 father son kids, I'm guessing quite a few clubs might be trying to trade back in to this years draft, which means there might be quite a few 2024 first round picks available.

I believe 4 father son kids and 3 northern academy kids made last years 2016 U18 AA team.

Banfield's boy should be a F/S selection for us in the next draft, right? Is he showing worthiness at this stage? We also have a NGA or two - Coen Livingston.
Tyrese Clark (from Kalgoorlie), saw him a few years ago and he looked quite good. Think he got a serious injury last year, but could be one for this year...

Fair call on next year being compromised at the top end.

McCabe is interesting. Very light for a KPP but only young so how he develops in 2023 will be interesting.

For the Suns, Jed Walter is looking top end while Jake Rogers and Ethan Read are more likely top 30 - again will be interesting to see how they develop

Darcy was a late charge in his draft year. He grew heaps and went from draftable to top end in about 4 months (or that is how it felt to me). Another Darcy will come with a pedigree talent so watch out for a bolter

Add in a couple of Doggies F/S prospects as well as who Sydney have been hiding

My top 10 from middle to late 2022:
  1. Harley Reid – Vic Country balanced midfielder and utility
  2. Zane Duursma – Vic Country balanced midfielder and utility
  3. Ashton Moir – SA half forward
  4. Jed Walters – Suns KPF
  5. Dan Curtain – WA KPF/KPD
  6. Archer Reid – KPF (brother is a Bomber)
  7. Colby McKercher – Tasmanian balanced midfielder
  8. Nick Watson – Vic Metro small forward
  9. Mitch Edwards – WA ruck
  10. Nate Caddy – Vic Metro Forward
With Thulstrup as someone I am really interested in with what I think is a late R1, some very good homegrown talent.

A great year for us to be holding multiple R2 and R3 picks.

You would think the Doggies and Suns would potentially look at selling out of their R1. Less likely Hawks as I see them holding a pointy end pick and McCabe has a long way to go for a club to bid on him inside the top 10.

I am not as bullish as others on our prospects as a massive improvement in our team will see us close the gap but I suspect it will take more than 1 off season to settle in a new game plan. Our first pick should be landing the best free KPP (I suspect Curtain), we buy the Suns R1 and we could be going in with our R1 and R2 and Suns R1. 3 top end picks would do me. Unless of course we get to sell forward a future pick.
Good early list, looks quite strong the first 10 and I'd add Lorenz in there - very good player but has a bout of OP (apparently not overly serious though).

What do people here think about going after Pickett and/or Georgiades?

Or Dev Robertson?

Certainly we should have all three on the " To Monitor List".

Lot to play out before I would like to consider going after any of them .

Need to see how the following develop in 2023:

Chesser
Ginbey
Hewett
Burgiel
Long
Xon
Petch

General comment - my interest is always countered by the cost of a trade and how much of a positional need they fill.

Pickett - Come seasons end I think that Long and Burgiel will be adequate cover for that position, so not that interested.
Robertson - Can he cement himself a place in the Lions 22? , if not maybe explore a trade with Lions, but at a modest price, draft capital wise.
Georgiades - That one is a touch more complicated, if he stays healthy I suspect the kents at Port would want way too much, so pass.
If he has another interrupted injury riddled season, then probably a pass for me again, unless he comes real cheap ...which wont happen see "kents" comment above.
The fly in the ointment could be that he stays healthy, has a decent season and adamantly wants out of Port, to come home to Perth, then at least try and broker a deal, again refer to kents comment above.

Caveat against trading out Draft Capital in trade week at the end of the season.

I like this years draft cohort and I rate it as good as been available for many years.
So at this point in time I would be looking at saving all our draft capital to go to the draft, we also have a good hand with one first, two seconds and two thirds.

Case in point if Georgiades wanted out I am sure Port would ask for our first, and that pick, in all probability would net us one of either: Ashton Moir or Zane Duursma ( two player who I believe Port would want and have high on their to get list) and here is the thing...... I would at this point in time, prefer both Moir and Duursma ahead of Georgiades.

As I said previously, a lot can change between now and September, just my two cents worth at this point in time.

Wait...Adam Cooney has actually had sex?

1. It's amazing what being a famous footballer can do for you, regardless of looks.

2. Fuuuuuck. I now feel very old.

Yeah, it's going to be an interesting trade period for us I think

Well said. Given where we are in the list cycle we should be looking at draft more than trade. Happy to do a third rounder for Dev or a free agency acquisition but not giving up first rounders.

I don’t believe any Lions fan would expect a first round pick, or even an early second round pick for Dev.

I do laugh a little here when people say stuff about Dev not being able to break in to our midfield. It’s not like we have a bunch spuds running through there.

I will be pretty p!ssed though, if we continue to play Jarrod Lyons ahead of Dev.

Well said sir.

Dev I think by seasons end is a pass, I think we'll see a few young guys bob up and he will become a very low need. He needed to come at the end of last season, as sounds like plenty of opportunities right now.

Yeah, that’s what I have thought as well.

Agree ECE I think that ship has long sailed ........ and as it is in life in general .......... Timing Is Everything.

That list of ten is so funny to me - it’s like if you were set the task of creating 10 fictional AFL player names and totally nailed the brief

Normally yes.

But in this particular circumstance he could just be; loyal, a good player and not a first Brisbane midfielder at the end of this year and still be a quality pickup.

Yep definitely wouldn’t give up a first rounder for Dev. He might not be B22 this year at the lions. I was more referring to not spending first rounders on Pickett or Georgiades

Been a lot of talk about Curtain
Would you want Moir & Dursam ahead of Curtain ?

Pickett is definitely worth a mid first round pick. Say what we paid for Charlie Cameron, pick 12.
