**** it if we have pick 1 let's just get Reid. Not for any smart reasons, just cause it'd be fun to have a top line mid don't arguing campaigners who might piss off other team's fans with all the articles of "Are they already the best player ever" like with Daicos.

There's only a few players in the league who genuinely cause fear in opposition sides - like "if this bloke gets a head full of steam we're ****ed". Jeremy Cameron is the one who comes to mind right now, Dusty/Franklin prime examples. We've probably had two in this last generation - Kennedy and Naitanui. Reid could be that type of player and it's players like that who bring fans joy/make the footy fun to watch.

Side note - if Hawthorn hadn't thrown it against Adelaide I'd be confident of the spoon. As it is now I'd be wary that Mitchell will pull some shenanigans to get the Hawks last. This is a year where it seems pick 1 is worth a lot more than pick 2.

The point is that if you get offered 3 x top 10 picks for a number 1 pick (which could be a possibility this year) there is a higher probability you will end up with more elite players with more top end picks rather than a single pick.
Nah, your point was that #1 doesn't end up the best player in the draft, therefore we should split the picks. As I said, this is flawed because it's no different with other top 10 picks. You rarely pick the best available player at any draft position.

Now you're making some sort of assumption that a club is going to offer 3x top 10 picks for #1. That's actually unlikely. What is likely is someone offers circa #4 or #5 and #6 or #8. That seems to be what pick #1 is worth - one pick around 4/5, another around 8/9.

Now get yourself a spreadsheet. Line up the last 20 drafts in columns. Highlight elite players in yellow, a-graders in green, and really good 150 gamers in pink.

Do you see the pattern? Not many empty square in the top 3 picks. As you go from roughly pick 3 to pick 10 - blank gaps appear. When you're looking at picks 5 - 10, there's probably a 40-50% chance of getting a spud.

You might get lucky (assuming you trade #1 for 2x top 10 draft picks) and pick an elite AND an a-grader, or you might get an a-grader and a dud.

Either way you go, there's a risk, BUT

If you take #1 and he ends up being Matt Rowell, then that's ok. That's how the cookie crumbles.
But if you trade #1 out and Reid ends up the next Dusty..... emotional damage.

I wouldn't be at all surprised at all if you told me that.

Every third post that you post on the West Coast board has a mention of, or a reference to, something thats directly or indirectly related to Brisbane.
I thought I was being subtle.

Don’t know if anyone has suggested it for a Pick 1 trade on here but I think another way would be Bulldogs 2 picks say 8 and 14 plus Jedd Busslinger, think we would look good in young defender ranks for a long time with Bazzo and Busslinger

What if I told you the top mids are all small’ish and play for Oakleigh, plus Levi Ashcroft father son to Brisbane.
Without even thinking to much can name Harvey Langford, Cooper Hynes both at Dandenong. Josh Smillie 194cm at Eastern Rangers and there are others.

Id keep Rotham & have him train with the mids specifically wing. Yes he got pansted last night but
1) it was a class player
2) the ball was heading that way under no pressure with regular monotony
3) he was undersized

Undersized?

Rotham - 193 cm
Curnow - 194 cm

He has not put on bulk as that is not his personality or game style. That is his choice. I concede that he is lighter.

BIGGEST REASON ROTHAM GOT EMBARRASSED - he does not know how to defend 1 on 1. He either played behind Charlie or guarding the grass near him. There are other options.

Rotham avoids contact and when confronted and is pushed off the ball too easy so why play him as a mid with those loop the loop passes..

Keep him next year as he is contracted and we will need another to delist in 2024.

Mate - When you first came on the boards, I recall you mentioned you invest your time with a club going through some hurdles until they're on the way up and up. And before the Eagles it was Freo?

Just curious, have you returned to their board and provided that sound Brisbane advice? because they have been rebuilding for almost close to a decade. Last year being the delta.

Not saying I don't like your input here and there being an avid draft watcher and knowledge of the kids coming through.

I calculate a 5 team race to the spoon:

Round 8
Richmond v West Coast
Fremantle v Hawthorn
North v Saints

Round 9
Richmond v Geelong
West Coast v Gold Coast
Sydney v Fremantle
North v Port
Hawthorn v Melbourne

Round 10
North v Sydney
Fremantle v Geelong
Essendon v Richmond
Hawthorn v West Coast

Round 11
St Kilda v Hawthorn
Mebourne v Fremantle
West Coast v Essendon
Richmond v Port
Collingwood v North

potential ladder after round 12:

Fremantle 12
Richmond 10
Hawthorn 8
North 8
West Coast 4

After round 12

Fremantle have West Coast and Richmond at Optus, Hawthorn at G
Richmond have Fremantle and West Coast at Optus, hawthorn and North at G
Hawthorn have North at Marvel, Richmond at G, Bulldogs at Tas, Fremantle at G
North have Giants in Tas, Hawthorn at Marvel, West Coast at Optus, Richmond at G, Suns in Tas
West Coast have Richmond, North, and Fremantle at Optus.

I want to trade pick 1 if GWS are willing to pay the premium.
Then I want to trade our 2024 first into this draft.

This is the draft. We can potentially line up 9 main list spots with a bit of creativity and fill all positions on field bar maybe 1 more true inside mid.

Pick 1. 5,9 and their future second.
Our future first plus ports third (this is a risk as we could be trading pick 1) for Picks 6, 17 and 35. People will say this isn't enough but next years draft is incredibly compromised.

Go to the draft with 5,6,9,17,20, 32, 35, 37, 55.

Duursma (more midfield ability than any of the other star half forwards but feel we won't quite put it all together to secure a space in the top 3 but will show in 2-3 games his absolute quality. Is a true 70+ metre player who can player taller or smaller and will only get better)
Wilson (Classiest user in the draft, future star all over the field but for me our future star HBF and kick in player as well as his run and carry makes him a genuine 70+ metre player)
Watson (The wizard, a high pick to pay for what a lot will say is just a very small forward. They are underselling him. Yes he's small but has a good frame and in a lot of ways combines a lot of the best work of Rankine and Rachele. If he was 180cm he would be pick 2)
Curtin (Will be played around the ground during the year and will fall in the order. Will likely have to play FB at champs and second academy game will harm his draft position)
Tholstrup (overexposure due to being so good at 16 and not continuing that rate of development but will still be a great HF who will take midfield time as well)
Livingstone (Sorry guys my bolter, I want him and we're going to have to pay a pick before 40. Forget the ruck, he's an aggressive FF)
Hall (Balanced mid, lots of leadership, great left leg, is aggressive one on one. More outside than in but could move further inside over time)
Edwards (Will drift a fair bit as he is filling into his body and be the third true ruckman taken in the draft, we have to take him here or he's a free hit to freo but will be a star Ruck after 4 years of development particularly with the bounce disappearing)
Evans. (Mid sized defender, attacks the ball and man well, knows when to zone off and plays bigger than he is. Can also give some drive, has been prone to trying to do too much at times with possession which if he's your main man out of defence can lead to some howlers hence his draft position)

Then aim to bring our 2025 first rounder into next years draft and then just aim for role players outside that pick, trades and free agency in coming years.
Lots to like in what you say here.

At full back, Curtin will certainly not be getting the hype as being top 10 so a real chance of slipping to mid/late teens.

It has gotten even more real seeing as GWS are now holding picks 3 and 7. What more would you want added to that? I think GWS are desperate enough to add a F2 and we give them back our F3. It obviously depends on how Harley and others go this year.

The Melbourne deal is interesting - currently 5 and 18. The worse the Dockers become in 2023 the closer the Dees will be to pick 1/2 (what they might value our R1 pick in 2024) but they want for little this year and have a loaded group of youngsters in already.

I would look at a points swap of our Future R3 and R4 plus Port's R3. These are currently 38 (assume we do not get better next year), 51 and/or 57 for a points tally of 906. Get the Crows R2 that Suns that hold and that will likely be in the low 30's (face value points of around 500 - 600) and use this on Edwards. I think after academy picks that 38 might just blow over the 40 mark. Here is the deal. We agree with our 5 x top 20 picks not to nominate any of their prospects.

I seem to recall a poster who often comments about the club from the inside saying that fans generally form an opinion about a player and remember when they do something that is in line with that opinion whilst ignoring things that run contradictory.

Was that BOND?
That’s confirmation bias in general

Rotham is not a key defender - never was never will be. He is a 3rd tall who attacked the ball using pace and size.
Unfortunately his natural instincts have been quashed by the WC game plan.

Give him some licence to play in a position where he can use his strengths & you will see just why he got drafted in the 1st place.

Congratulations you have already got Harley Reid in your sites you have take a number 1 pick off us Hawks fans The Hawks have lost number one pick and we haven’t even won a game and if you hold number one pick for mid season draft that’s a double bubble pick for you guys as the mid-season pick is now becoming a golden pick this is how the modern rebuild is done well done Eagles as a Hawks fan I’m jealous hopefully we can get a few thrashings in the next few weeks and steel the number one pick from you guys but for now it looks all yours.

If we get 1, you pick Reid, if we get 2, we split it.
If you guys get pick 1 under no circumstances do you swap it for anyone else or more pics because Reid is a generational player who will help transform your midfield for the next 10 years And please I hope number 1 goes to Hawthorn or West Coast not North Melbourne they just tank every year

And danger of some punctuation - you know commas (,) or full stops (.) I don't care whether you actually get them in the right spot just insert them anywhere for the love of god

So he would displace the current FB or CHB in the top teams? You are dreaming. As I said he would be at best the third tall.

He was in the AA squad last year you absolute pelican.
