Oh we are about to lap them for sure but we dont have a good start is what im saying.

From the list of below the players id say are going to be best 22 in the next 5 years for certain bolded. Chesser/L.Edwards/Bazzo/Hewett extremely likely to be in that list but not 100% sure what spot or role yet. Hopefully Burgiel and Barnett take over from Williams/L.Foley and get into the best 22 but not certain yet etc. With a best case scenario of 11 players, we need to find atleast 11 more in the next few yers/before Tasmania which is a very big task ahead

FB: Witherden, H.Edwards, L.Foley
HB : Jones, Bazzo, Hough
C: Chesser, Ginbey, L.Edwards
HF: Culley, Waterman, Petrucelle
FF: Long, Allen, Winder
R: Williams. Hewett, XON
I/C: West, Trew, Jamieson, Burgiel
Williams should be bolded, he’s the best young ruck in the comp atm.

I didn’t argue for delisting him.

My point is that this silly game of charades that the club is playing where they hide contract announcements from supporters is not an indicator of a well run club. Nobody else does it. It achieves nothing worthwhile.

If you are in charge and you give a chronically injured over 30 a two extension, if you think the positives outweigh the risks and downsides, then have a pair of balls and make the announcement. And if some people are going to disagree and criticise you then explain the decision and argue your corner.

If you can’t explain and defend your decision, if you are embarrassed and afraid of criticism and are hiding the information from your supporters, then maybe you should reflect on that and ask yourself if it really is the right decision?
I think you're looking at the Eagles with a tinfoil hat on.

We're a professional club and we do the important work behind closed doors. Be it contract negotiations, trading, drafting, etc. If McGovern was offered a 2 year contract, it would be because he is deserving of it. The club hasn't been shy offering only 1 year contracts to older players, why would this be different? Would actually be bizarre for the club to excitedly announce Gov's contract extension.

I think there's plenty we can be critical of of the club, but this would rank really really low on that list.

But agree to disagree.

Under 26 team:
FB: R'Smith Balta ----
HB: Baker Gibcus Rioli
C; ---- Taranto ------
HF: Clarke ------ Graham
FF: Rioli ---- Cumberland
Foll: Ryan Hopper Bolton
Int: Sonsie ?Ross ?Mansell

Ours is

FB: Witherden, H.Edwards, L.Foley
HB : Jones, Bazzo, Hough
C: Chesser, Ginbey, L.Edwards
HF: Culley, Waterman, Petrucelle
FF: Long, Allen, Winder
R: Williams. Hewett, XON
I/C: West, Trew, Jamieson, Burgiel

That is absolutely shithouse in that id take Richmonds 15 over our 22 in a trade. We are minimum 5 years off
Ours is streets ahead of theirs.

I wouldn't.

I count 10 of ours on limited exposed form that I'd be confident of being very good players for us, long term.

This just shows that Richmond are lacking in young players and have exacerbated the problem by trading out of the draft early this year.

Not sure about this. Naitanui was given a two-year contract last year after managing just eight games for the season. He’ll be 34 when it expires and, apart from two full seasons in 2020 and 2021, he’s hardly been fit since he did his knee in 2015.

Add to that a rumoured two-year contract extension for Cripps who would be 33 at the end of it (albeit that was before his ankle injury, and he’d been pretty durable before then) and this rumoured two-year deal for McGovern who’s missed large chunks of the last four years and who would also be 33 at the end of that deal, and I think the club’s getting a bit cavalier about contracting players over 30.

McGovern, NN, Kennedy are as top end as it gets for their positions.
LeCras, Shuey, Yeo, Sheppard, Gaff, Darling, Ryan and Hurn likewise were probably competition leaders in their respective positions around our 2018 flag.

* Unless the conversation is purely around midfielders and I missed this point.

Hutch was an elite tagger 💪

Draper is a year and a half older, would say Baileys season has been just as good as both.
I agree that Williams has really turned around his form and is doing well this year, particularly his work around stoppages after the ruck contest.
I think he needs to improve his actual ruck work before we're committing to him as our future number 1 ruck though. Currently about 50th in hit out win % and about the same in hit outs to advantage %.
31st and 27th if you take non-ruckmen out

Agree he struggles in the ruck, particularly around the ground but that should come with added strength.

His clearance work though is genuinely brilliant, for a ruck his age and why I’m so big on him.

Rest of his game definitely needs work.

Any talk yet of potential MSD picks for us? Surely we go again if we’re bottom 2 in a few weeks.

I could see us skipping the draft and saying nah we won’t take a player because Jamie cripps might be back for the game in round 21 and a pick would take his spot in the team.

Agree, his clearance work is amazing considering it's seemingly come out of nowhere

If we get pick 1, how do we keep Reid and get another top 10 pick?
Potentially target Gold Coast’s pick as it might be swallowed up with their academy pick anyways.

I'm not keen. Will have him for nothing, but not for good picks. Wouldn't mind walking him to the PSD.

Good draft, good picks, the path is clear. Pickett's off the table now which is a blessing.
Yeah, I wouldn't trade anything for him given how deep people are saying this draft is so it's either PSD or as a FA.
But I don't really think he's worth a big enough salary for Port to just let him walk as a RFA
