Gov has already signed a 2 year deal.

Unless Shuey can get a decent period of footy in before the end of the year, I reckon he has to go.
with five draft picks this year and maybe moving Culley to the main list which 12 uncontracted players go,
Gov and Cripps already mentioned maybe have contracts we don't know about.Keeping a injury riddled Shuey means somebody needs to be delisted or rookie listed.

Hurn -likely delisted
Witherden- unlikely
Clark- delisted
Jack Williams-rookie list
O'neill-delisted
Foley-delisted
Sps-unlikely
Waterman-unlikely
Petruccelle-Likely delist/Rookie
Shuey-likely

I agree that having Simmo take the heat through the worst of the rebuild and bottoming out, then there is the option of a new coach and a fresh voice as we are hopefully ready to turn the corner, could be best for everyone.

Think that is exactly what is happening.

The established successful coach manages the first phase of the rebuild. Introduces new game plan and cops the heat.

End of 2024 Simo may tap out or keeps going. We reassess end of 2024 and 2025 who we go forward with.

I am wondering what structures the club has in place now that we have 3 teams. The AFL and WAFL is pretty easy to think though as it fits in 1 hierarchy.

Is there a separate structure for the AFLW? I would imagine the S&C team cover both lists but the coaching, list management, recruitment, off field management, etc would be seperate.

Is there something that Simmo is being groomed for like director of football covering all the teams?

Let him play the sacrificial role now and then step up to an office upstairs.

The obvious question is for how long and just how much heat is Simpson going to be willing to cop? What is in it for Simpson to be the whipping boy? OK, he gets another year or two of salary as an AFL coach. But i am not sure how much the difference is between what he would get from investments he must have already plus whatever he would get paid doing something else in the industry vrs his senior coach salary. Plus take tax out of whatever the difference is.

If i was Simpson i would move on. You've got a really run down list. Plus malfunctioning departments of the club such as SC and drafting/list management. An administration with it's head in the sand that wants and doesn't want to address those problems, and which also wants to sell me down the river and create unrealistic expectations by wanting to keep going with the sales pitch to the public that we are a top 8 side and this is all one big random anomaly that will self correct shortly. Plus i am not West Australian anyway. If i was in his shoes i would be asking what is in it for me to play this role and i would want to move on.

He is a Premiership coach. If he wasn't it would be in his interest to keep going and try right the ship as he would never get another gig after overseeing a decline like this. You either survive long enough to fix things or your senior coaching career is dead. But since he is a Premiership coach and he does have those runs on the board it is more in his interests to protect that cache he has and prevent it from being further diminished. He is more likely to get another gig in the future if he leaves now than if he keeps going for another two years and the results are more of what we are currently experiencing.

I swear to God you form your opinion solely on articles written by The West/Kane Cornes.

It’s amazing how he oscillates between “Simpson is desperately clinging to power”, “Simpson looks like he doesn’t want to be there” and “Simpson shouldn’t be hanging around like this”.

The internal inconsistency between those positions would give most posters pause for thought.

Wrong thread you might like to put this in the Simpson mega thread where people that read it might care 👍🏻

More likely to be competition for players considering Geelong, tbh. Similar weather, better beaches, cheaper land, better restaurants, way more opportunity for investments such as distilling, wineries, brewing, pubs, etc. Plus, it's only a 40 minute flight to Melbourne anyway.

Better beaches??? I don’t think so

Simo is getting well paid to lead the group through a tough rebuild.

He wouldnt earn that anywhere else.

His kids are in high school so likely they dont want to move anywhere atm.

He's contracted.

And who would want to come here right now? An inexperienced coach maybe.

Im hoping for a Don Pike / Dean Cox combo to take over end of 2024. Perfect timing.

Jarrod Schofield or Matthew Knights would be prime candidates. Would be happy for either of them to take over.
