I'd certainly prefer pick purchasing to the Jack Bowes situation. The problem being that by Bowes nominating Geelong, other clubs were effectively shut out of the process. If GC had simply put pick 7 on the table for purchasing, there would have been an open bidding process and we might have been in with a chance.... would also have provided us with an incentive to clean out some dead wood in order to gain cap space.

At the same time, though, there's a big risks of clubs making mistakes and truly screwing themselves over. The AFL tend to shy away from those sorts of things.

The Bowes to Geelong trade under the current rules was a complete rort. How that got approved is beyond any logical reasoning.

In terms of bringing in actually buying picks, I'm all for it tbh, and would suggest if Twomey is reporting with that headline on the afl site then it's definitely coming. In general the bottom sides should have more cap space so in theory it's a way to hasten rebuilds.

Like all these things though, the best managed clubs will find a way to use it to stay up the top

Yes, I read that. Much of the information has already been noted on this board. Some appointments have been made. Were they the right appointments?

I appreciate your input on this board overall, and I think that the drafting of our club has been good for the last 2 years (the area that you work). But you’re on a hiding to nothing defending all areas of the club, clearly the S&C/medical team are struggling. So what if we made a few changes there, plainly the changes have failed. When our first and second year players (Long, Hough, Burgiel) are going down with hamstring injuries costing several weeks, there’s something wrong. It looks like Yeo’s cooked at 29 years old. Aren’t you concerned with the S&C/medical department? Is the criticism entirely unfair? Surely there comes a point when the “it’s all just bad luck” excuse no longer cuts it.

As for development, what are the credentials of the guys appointed in that area?
General failure in the AFL's soft cap and the AFLPA should be banging down the doors about this... player welfare is being compromised by capping medical and training staff. I don't know any other major league in the world that has this stupid cap for non-players... utterly regressive thinking that does nothing but lower the standards to the poorest levels.

Listening to Harley Reid on Gettable, didn't sound too thrilled at the prospect of having to move interstate.
If we do win the spoon we better have some plans in place as i am sick of these VIC kids throwing tantrums when asked to move interstate.

For those that are interested the question was asked about moving interstate in the below video 23:25

Oh yeah btw when you think this year couldn’t get any worse

Harley Reid very clearly has no interest in going interstate imo lmao, just listened to his interview with Cal and Riley - skip to around the 23.30-24 minute part
Too bad, so sad.

That’s such a predictable bullshizen answer. We are out of the race already hahah.

What bulls**t. Will Vic Country draftees start pulling the same stunt as their Metro counterparts?
Hopefully Reid is an isolated incident if true.
If he is really is the best prospect by far, I'd still consider him if we finish last.
Unless he is likely to request a trade the first chance he gets like JHF.
Judd worked out okay overall (resulted in a flag & JK).

If we finish last and literally can't draft the top talent due to him not wanting to move interstate then WCE needs to launch legal action against the AFL, citing the draft as being obsolete and move to zone recruitment, like the NRL, and raising the salary cap significantly so well-run clubs can get the advantage they deserve.

Kill off these broke Vic clubs and become a true national competition.

Yep pretty clear. Draft tampering if that's a Non Vic kid saying that about moving to Victoria

Have to console ourselves with a collection of 1st rounders instead then

Pretty simple. If there's a WA top talent in the next couple of years who we're in contention for that Vic clubs are interested in, just get him to go on AFL media and play the same card Reid has.

The AFL can't complain about draft tampering when they've let so many Vic kids do it. Take them to court if they do.

What’d he actually say?

Forget anything else he said, the biggest concern is he’s a Geelong supporter

Worry about any go home concerns if we do finish last and not before. They could have asked him about the possibility of going to North and I reckon he’d have been as equally unimpressed about that possibility

And in any case there’s likely to be plenty of suitors for pick 1 if we have it that may well be a better option even if he’s happy to move

No point losing sleep over it now
