Forget anything else he said, the biggest concern is he’s a Geelong supporter

Worry about any go home concerns if we do finish last and not before. They could have asked him about the possibility of going to North and I reckon he’d have been as equally unimpressed about that possibility

And in any case there’s likely to be plenty of suitors for pick 1 if we have it that may well be a better option even if he’s happy to move

No point losing sleep over it now
Kids need to be reminded of how the draft works or to not bother nominating. Every number 1 pick goes to a 'basket case' of a club.

Would like them to name the club and just say "There's a good chance you will he picked up by West Coast and have to go interstate. How would you feel about that"?

Him and management plotting now how he can get to Geelong.

Listening to Harley Reid on Gettable, didn't sound too thrilled at the prospect of having to move interstate.
If we do win the spoon we better have some plans in place as i am sick of these VIC kids throwing tantrums when asked to move interstate.

For those that are interested the question was asked about moving interstate in the below video 23:25

We should be proactive, offering a trip over here to see what its like and get into his ear whispering sweet nothings and allaying his fears.
We can't limit our draft to non vic kids all the time. The more the clubs give in, the more its gunna happen.
All kids are gunna be a bit nervous about moving interstate away from mum, we just need to sell it to them.

I hope we back ourselves and still take him if we're able to.

On a different note I reckon the teams that draft a player should be able to offer them more money to re-sign then. Have the standard 2 year rookie contracts then team options for year 3 &4 at set rates determined by draft pick (kind of like the NBA) but let teams who draft a player be able to offer them 120% of the base contract if they re-sign for the additional two years. See if home sickness is still as much as a factor if they are getting paid more to stay.

why would he, just draft him if that is our pick and preference. The rest is just noise. It keep the plebs listening, watching and reading whil the footy is sub par.

Harley Reid’s manager has moved to quash concerns the likely No.1 draft pick would be reluctant to join West Coast amid the teenager’s lukewarm comments about a prospective move west.

Reid, who is seen by recruiters as the clear-cut best player in this year’s AFL draft, hails from the small country town of Tongala in Victoria, three hours north of Melbourne.

The midfielder raised eyebrows on Wednesday with his response to how he would handle a potential move out of Victoria, should the lowly Eagles finish last and secure the No.1 pick.

It comes as West Coast prepare to tackle fellow cellar dwellers Hawthorn in a game being touted as the ‘Harley Reid Cup’.

“I haven’t really thought about it as much. There’s still a long way to go but I am really family orientated, obviously a country boy, but yeah, we’ll see what happens,” Reid said on the Gettable podcast.

But speaking exclusively to The West Australian after Reid’s comments, the 18-year-old’s manager Nick Gieschen denied his client was reluctant to leave Victoria.

“Harley is open-minded to all possibilities and hasn’t looked at anything beyond the under-18 championships where he wants to put his best foot forward,” he said.

Gieschen also manages Eagles players Tom Barrass, Campbell Chesser, and Alex Witherden under the Connor Sports Management umbrella.

The race for the wooden spoon appears down to three, with the Hawks and Eagles both on one win and separated by percentage, while North Melbourne sit above them with two wins.

Reid was an All-Australian at under-18 level last year as a bottom-age player alongside 2022 No.1 pick Aaron Cadman, Brisbane’s Will Ashcroft, Kangaroos star Harry Sheezel and potential future Eagles teammate Reuben Ginbey.

The Dustin Martin-like powerful midfielder has already starred for the Bendigo Pioneers in this year’s Talent League and in two games for Carlton in the VFL.

Reid will miss the next three weeks after he was concussed against the Blues’ second side while playing for the AFL Academy at the weekend.

Eagles recruiters will get a good look at Reid when he heads to Perth to tackle WA as part of the Victoria Country side in the under-18 championships on July 1.

South Australian Ashton Moir, who is seen as the second-best player, is a West Coast fan and has a connection to WA, with his mother, 2000 Olympic Taekwondo representative Cynthia Moir (nee Cooper), born in Perth.

Should he land at the Eagles, looms as the most-hyped draftee at the club since Chris Judd’s arrival with pick No.3 in 2001.

From Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, Judd would leave the Eagles after 134 games in six seasons to return home to Victoria to play for Carlton in one of the highest-profile trades in AFL history.

Yep

Gone seem to be the days of a kid saying he's happy to go anywhere.
Depends on where you get picked in the draft, apparently.

Kids who last until the 3rd/4th round would simply be stoked just to get picked up.

These Vic blokes in the top 5 are almost assured of going to a Vic club pretty much every season, due to the amount of shit truck clubs in Melbourne.

Really? Thought he was a Hawks fan.

It's concerning that anyone would be a Geelong supporter in the first place, tbh.

Said in that interview he was a Geelong supporter

From that west article posted above

Firstly, our former head recruiter and current list manager is based in Melbourne

Secondly, I think we and all other clubs have several sets of eyeballs on every under-18 championship game not just the ones in their own backyard

Had he said eagles fans could get a look at Reid that would have made more sense

Feel for you guys. As it stands you have the opportunity to add a generational talent to the list but are being forced down a fork in the road. The way the kids are treating the draft these days is criminal and robbing teams such as wce of the chance to add the best player possible. Even if wce do back themselves in, the Victorian vultures will already be in his ear now, promising Reid the world in order to get him back.

The draft is essentially dead when you have Victorian teenagers basically dictating where they want to go and the clubs being held at ransom.

Don't have to as he should be playing in WA on 1sy of July, should lay out the red carpet.
Interesting though if he has a mystery injury and doesn't make trip.

A lot of jumping at shadows going on here. Not being excited about going to WA for work doesn't mean he would chuck a hissy fit about it, or not get used to it in time. Why would he be excited about the prospect of WA?

If he's the best player and we have pick 1, just pick him and forget about all the 4D chess moves trying to figure out what he's going to do in 2 years time. We'll burn that bridge when we come to it.
