We have been a successful club but being knocked out in a piss weak manner in week 2 is part of us too.

It frustrates me no end the amount of Prelims we could've at least attended over the years.

Yes the MCG rule screwed us twice but still... annoying

No doubt travel comes into it but still

A small factor on Harley Reid’s potential flight risk discussed on the Tradies podcast. He has a strong relationship with Noah Long from the Bendigo Pioneers days. Wouldn’t mind seeing them both at WC for the next decade.

That could be a Judd/Cousins pairing (from wish)

So, you’re saying WCE and their recruiters have been playing the long game?

There seems to be a constant chat linking Fisher and us.

Herald Sun today reporting the following

DUMPED BLUE’S LIKELY LANDING SPOT

West Coast shapes as a likely landing spot for Zac Fisher, who wants out of Carlton after being dropped twice already this year.

The Herald Sun revealed last week Fisher was keen for more midfield time despite having two more years running on his contract.

Carlton would be open to brokering a deal and with Fisher’s deal believed to be worth between $400,000-$500,000 a season it would actually open up cap space for the Blues.

Fisher has racked up huge possession tallies playing midfield in the VFL and a club like West Coast could use his ball use and speed during its rebuild.

Fisher played every game last year as a small forward and kicked 18 goals but has kicked only three goals in eight games for the Blues this year.

I would be OK with a straight swap with Petruccelle. Both players re hard to value and feel like a late R3/early R4 pick would do for either of them. Not saying he is a great pick up - but the noise won't go away and that is usually a sign. If we do keep Petch, I would offer our our R4 pick. That assumes we use the Port R3 on Robertson.

Fisher was drafted in 2016 and that age group includes Waterman, SPS, Jones, Rotham and Witherden. Quantity and not quality. I can see a world where West, Clark and O'Neill are gone come season end and I sense that Fisher is an upgrade on all three midfield options.

Blues are needing speed and small forwards and I had heard 2 or 3 years ago they asked the question to us on Petch.

Fisher could be good for us, not sure why Carlton would want petch though, he's a downgrade on fisher, especially if the want to clear some cap space

My only hope in all the discussion about trades is that we get players who add value to the list rather than just getting someone.

Not sure if Fisher is in group A or group B but IMO Freo used to chase anyone and everyone just to claim a scalp. Things have changed in that space for them - I do t want to go down their old route.

Or just means we can package them together for a trade home :drunk:

Yeah token pick as best as it seems we'd be opening up cap space for the Blues. I'd rather keep Petch over Fisher tbh

IMO Fisher would be a decent upgrade on Petch but wouldn't be against having both on the list for a year (give Petch a 1 year extension and get Fisher in on 2 max including his current deal) - there's plenty to cut this year without having to trade Petch away, our half forward depth is terrible/Cripps is getting on, and it's an age profile I wouldn't mind more of whilst we introduce the 18-20 year olds around them hopefully not all at once.

Going forward you'd suspect only one of them would be in a contending B22 and that both would need to go up a level in their game to make that spot theirs - let them audition against each other next year as it's likely they'll both be playing games while we sort ourselves out

As long as it's for something like a token late draft pick I would support having Zac Fisher.

The recruitment and success of Jayden Hunt is an example of what we should be aiming for - players that have proven they can do a job in recent times but for some reason has fallen out of favour and we can acquire them for peanuts to help rebuild. Sure, likely to not be there for the next flag but you don't want to trot out teenagers every week in 2024 and mature-aged players around Fisher's age helps fill in the obvious gap we have at the moment.

Fisher would be useful depth. Was a fan of his in his draft year. But in the midfield he’d get ragdolled most weeks. The Hawthorn game, where Newcombe and Worpel at will stood up in tackles or ran through them and then distributed to players clear on the outside, amply demonstrated our midfield problem. Fisher would exacerbate that.

If it's for a late draft pick or a salary cap dump like Brodie and Bowes was, I wouldn't be opposed to trading Zac Fisher. Could be handy depth at his age.

Geez, Zac Fisher.... who would have thought.

If Carlton are keen for a salary dump, I'd be happy to consider Fisher & 5 for our 19 and 38.

Not saying we should have beaten GWS. But it was an abject performance from what I recall.

Final game for long time Eagles Drew Petrie and Sam Mitchell :cute:

You're a hard task master.

The EF against Port was the side giving absolutely everything. They got up off an 8 count a couple of times and willed themselves over the line against a team that had the home game and finished higher (5th v 8th).

I remember at the time thinking that was the squads GF. They were immense in winning and left nothing in the tank.

Truth be told I was kind of expecting a let down the following week. Fairytales away from home are hard to repeat in finals. GWS were going well that year (4th). We'd finished 8th, playing them on the road again. I was a realist, the result didn't surprise after what the team did the previous week.

The exact type of players we should be staying away from. Sick of recruiting spuds

Strong do not want on Zac Fisher.

However, if we receive a pick for a salary dump I am on board.
