I’m in the no to Collard at 19 camp. His highlights look great, but it’s the next version of Piemanball, load up on small forwards. The new HBFwhocanplaymidfield

If he lasts to the next, great, if not so be it
Yeah I feel like it goes against our list needs and will set us back more so. He may end up being a good player but now's not the time to be using a high pick on him. We have to get the players we need this offseason and improve areas we are below standard.

What's going happen if Bailey Williams get injuried. Who rucks.

We have a lot of areas we need to strengthen up especially our midfield to be a competitive unit. That is what will see us rise up the ladder. Improving our fringe list with players that can compete in positions that we need.

Re: Malakai Champion

Will be an interesting "watch this space" on Sanders and North if two things happen...

1) North get NGA access to a Top 10 selection

2) WCE have another disaster year next year

This would well and truly open the door to asking the AFL to allow MC be available as an assistance.

The thing with Collard is his another small forward which we have plenty of especially if we are adding in Brockman.
Liam Ryan, Cripps, Long, Pectecelle, Brockman, could even throw Maric and Culley in that position aswell and who knows what's happening with Sam P Seton. Is he getting delisted or going around again.

If we use pick 19 are we going with our list needs or just hype of a player in a position we have a lot of.
If his that good I'd like us to keep pick 19 on list requirements and try to obtain Collard by possibly trading in another 2nd 3rd rnder either by using future second pick or working something out to obtain one. Two good games in the WAFL isn't going to cut it.
I want to see a lot more to give up pick 19 on him. Opponents here looked like very average players if we are being honest. This is a b grade game even for WAFL standards. Feels like I was watching a lower suburban country league here.

List needs
HIGH Priority- Midfielders
HIGH Priority- Backup ruck.

MEDIUM Priority-Key position forward or third tall forward
MEDIUM Priority-half back flankers since Hurns retired we have a hole if we get a few injuries.
Medium Priority- Key Back if Gov and Barrass go down we are left with Bazzo and Edwards who seem to be in no man's land at the moment.

I'd have Small Forwards as a low Priority at the moment. Probably the least needed position for us.
He looks good though. Small build so would take a few years to develop at AFL level but is super quick. Bit of Lewis Jetta vibes. He probally move from wing to small forward. And bit of taunting around the 2 minute mark haha. That kind of taunting would really piss a lot of people off lol. Especially opposition he'd get some unwanted attention for that for sure.

3 mins of highlights and two acts showing a lack of discipline and a couple of poor field kicks. Has forward craft and marking ability, but I'd prefer to pass up at 19 and risk he slips past 40.

Stretching your argument by saying that Maric and Culley are small forwards.

We haven’t actually traded for Brockman yet, Cripps will be likely gone in two years time and Ryan is coming off a very serious hamstring injury.

Add to that the fact that Petrucelle has shown his best football this year has been up the ground running through the midfield.

If the club decides that Collard is the best talent available at that pick they should take him. Time will tell.

I find it hard to understand why the clubs not in the northern states do not demand the rule on not matching within the top 40 be scrapped.

Northern states clubs get these huge catch all academies and everyone else gets an NGA academy which is very limited by comparison. On top of that if a player is any good then they are available equally to everyone including the northern states.

it’s so compromised it’s beyond a joke.

Cripps retires end of 25

Ryan only tried and tested on list capable of playing small forward role for next 5 years.

Long only at start of career

Petch, that shipped has sailed needs to have a role elsewhere

Brockman, speculative trade

Maric and Culley, not small forwards.

Agreed.

"Start an academy, we want to see you bring through youth and really invest in the future of the game."

"You've done too good a job in developing these guys, sorry you can't have them now".

Is anyone else still absolutely bemused by our decision not to seek any AFL draft assistance?

North got a 2nd and 3rd round last year (which they had to trade), and had basically the same recent history as us. Are we just too arrogant to try and even get that? Staggering. Nisbett just came out and mentioned we wont as some side comment, without any justification. **** me.

The only hope that I have is that we are saving up our assistance request to bolster the request for next year. I doubt we are that savy or forward thinking (and I appreciate it is not that savy or forward thinking...)

North have been shit for ages.

WCE have only been shit for 2 full seasons.

Zero chance any club takes him before pick 40,

He is as big a flight risk as any thats ever existed.

We asked for fixture assistance instead remember

Nisbett wants 1 extra home game and no away games to Gabba or GWS home ground

Listen I'm not saying we won't need one down the track. For sure we will but I don't think this year we need to waste a highish pick on a small forward when we have other areas of the ground that are way more important right now for us to be strengthening. I'm fine if we use a pick 40 on him

I'd like us to use both 1st on Harley Reid and 2nd on the next best midfielder.
Also bringing in a maturish ruck would be handy to fill the gap between Williams and Barnetts development.

I feel that Collard has been hyped up on two sub standard WAFL games. You can only play against what opposition you have. Waterman would of kicked 10 against that mob is what I'm saying. I think we at least need to see more of Collard then that for pick 19. His a pick 40 just two weeks ago and after two games and if you really look into it those matches overall were below average in talent. He did good against shit quality opposition. It may be a sign of the state of WAFL league more so then the quality of Collards games. We should ask AFL to pick him as assistance if anything. I don't think it's a big ask because Collard is a 50/50 gamble at best that he will make it at AFL level. Not like North with the Sanders situation.

Why are people seriously pissed that it's unlikely we get Collard as an NGA?

If he's the best prospect at 19, just pick him

Don't want another repeat to Tim Kelly.
It's the gap. As soon as he gets past 40, we just wait until someone else picks him. At our leisure.

As it stands we have 1, 19, and 35. #35 will be more than 40 once academy picks are done.

So before it was "he'll probably edge past 40 and then we can jump in when anyone else takes him.

Now it's, "we sort of have to take him at 19 and realistically the club probably won't have him rank the best player at 19, so we'll probably miss out"

It's possible some trades happen and we get a mid 20s pick, but we don't really have anyone of trade value. Maybe that's where we split 19? IF we rate him highly.

Been told Collard on talent is a top 10 but lacking maturity, someone will definitely have a crack before 40 due to lack of depth in the draft, so no chance he lasts to us.

Eagles should look at taking him with our second if we really want him or ask the AFL to be able to match at/past 20 instead.

That's fine but if he's the best available player at our pick, surely we just take him instead of playing silly buggers?

If he's not, then just pass.

where is Jarrod Cameron these days?

North have been s**t for ages.

WCE have only been s**t for 2 full seaseasons
North were talking about the need for Priority Picks in 2021 - when they were essentially in the same position we are now. Can't recall if they got any assistance that year, but they did get those extra picks + a larger list in 2022.

Based on that is it premature to start the conversation about it? IMO no, particularly if we ask for something less unreasonable than a priority pick (e.g. seeking better access to our NGA talent).

We definitely have room for more small/general forwards. We never have any playing for the Beagles. If you can fit say 3 in the main 22 then you should have 2-3 in reserve based on the size of the playing list.

I don't really think so. Next year maybe, if we're in the same boat. Still wouldn't expect the club to do so though. I think you need to be shit for a long time before asking for assistance and even then, it should be off-field that the AFL helps out with.

If we're to ask for assistance, I'd much rather soft cap relief(which the AFL won't do...) than later picks.

Got my calculator out again when looking at implications of Port v GWS this week.

Currently we could make an offer to GCS for following:

GCS Picks 28 & 32 (tied to GWS) - Total Points 1261
for
WCE Picks 35 (tied to Port), 38 & 54 (tied to Port) - Total Points 1207

No real reason for GCS to do the trade as it's a points loss.

But if GWS win we have an improved offer

GCS Picks 28 & 34 (tied to GWS) - Total Points 1219
for
WCE Picks 33 (tied to Port), 38 & 52 (tied to Port) - Total Points 1274

A 55 point gain for GCS.

Leave us with 1, 19, 28, 34, 57 & 74.

How many picks will GCS be able to take to the draft?
(Some later picks might not be useable so points irrelevant?)
