Short answer is NO. We'd have to use it or split it.

It is always great to get premium quality players in but not if it means selling the farm. I am actually quite bullish about our crop of mids with 2 in particular (outside of those just drafted) giving me a great hope. One is obviously Hewitt who I believe can be as good as Warner, and the other, which may surprise people, is Jack Hutchinson who is Yeo sized, hard at it and could be another big bodied mid for us. I reckon I saw enough of him in really limited midfield minutes last season to think he can make the transition quickly.

I think I'd be waiting to see how those two, and our crop of 2023 & 2024 draftees progress before giving up our F1 for Warner.
That wasn't that short

Was merely mentioning as a player I liked in VM squad rather than fit for us.
At his age too likely still growing.
looking at all the players that WC need, reasonable sized mid that has great kicking skills and accumulates the ball, WC have lots of big inside types like Reid, Hewett, Ginbey, Hall, Allan and maybe Hutch in time imo.
Outside mids, Chesser, Johnston, Davis and maybe Gross.
Players that fit that mould would be S Cumming/N Hibbins-Hargreaves/F Rodriguez/H Barker/B Kelly
The other need is KDEF and probably on C Curtin/W Duursma that fit the mould at this stage imo.
WC will probably end up with 1 or more of Maric/Barnett/A Reid/Shanahan as KDEF options going forward.
Be a really good draft to get a class mid and KDEF in 2025 draft out of the above, get our FS & NGA players(3-4) and C Warner of course!

At this stage Duursma doesn’t have key defender height. Last measurement I saw was 191cm.

And that position is more than likely a waste of his talent atm.

As a point of interest, if Cripps' last season is partly the reason for him to be under the pump in the eyes of many, it is worth noting that only in 2015 and 2018, both GF years where we played more games, did he have more shots on goal than the 54 shots he had last season. Sure, some of his other stats were down but he had hand issues which IMO caused a lot of the handling (fumbling) we saw last season and probably a drop off in his tackling. I think we'll see a return to his usual form in 2025.
Cripps is the most fumbly player I have ever seen. Whole career issue.
Imagine how good he would have been if he didn't drop a goal every week

Yep. I see him as a wing/HBF

I see the youngest Duursma the same wing
Would be interesting to see a wingman drafted at number 1 pick
Would rather Sam Swadling for the wing position though the way he runs the lines
and uses both deadly feet to cut in board and is a WA boy
He also suits the Mini game plan

McGlade is a dynamic, evasive, proper crumbing small forward with very good skills.

Kenh is a 185cm ish half back with a great athletic profile, he provides a lot of run/rebound out of the back line and possesses a beautiful left foot kick. AA under 16
WCE have put a lot of work into Garrison through Natanui academy, its good to see that hard work is paying

I see it but he will grow at least another 4-5cm at his age, so probably falls into KDEF height.
Slim pickings in the KDEF prospects next year?

If you watch him live, he has zero KPD attributes.

He is a balanced to outside mid with poise, time and good skills meaning he can play HBF or HFF as well

I've worked very closely with Garrison Kehn over the last 4 years. Absolutely sublime footballer. Will spend the next 2 seasons with EP colts, draft year 2026. So excited for the kid.

Lachy McLade I have some ties to also through my kids but don't know too much about him unlike Gary

With our picks I agree, I’d rather use our 2R on Swadling and our 1R on Sharp or Rodriguez if available. Curtin with Hawks 1R and hopefully sneak in Lindsay with their 2R before bids. At this early stage it looks like there will only be 3-4 picks in the second round before the draft becomes hugely compromised with bids.

Thanks mate for sharing.

What do you see his playing style comparison as?

The kid is a bit of an athletic freak. Huge tank and strong. Loves ghosting the pack with his leap and marking the ball much higher than anyone else on the park. He has such a safe pair of hands and cat like reflexes.

At club level he is a ball winning midfielder. Destroys oppo with his ability to win the ground ball and burst of speed out of packs. His ball use by foot is seriously good. The way he somehow see's a forward lead and nail the target despite heavy congestion is next level. I've lost count the amount of times I've thrown my hands up in the air and say how the **** did he see that let alone put the ball in the right spot.

Kid can take an absolute screamer, loves a fend off and has a good amount of mongrel in him too.

I know WA played him off the HB which suited him but I can see him making his way into the midfield eventually

HBF with midfield potential you say?

Why mention chesser as a mid? And an outside mid at that?

How high do you predict Swadling could go?
Take the chad out of the equation could you see us splitting one of our first rounders for 2 later 1sts?

I expect the Hawks R1 will be mid teens and then out by another 5 slots come draft night with club tied players. If you want to split a R1 for multiple R1, that will be our R1 which I expect there to be some elite talent at that range.

If Swadling starts to rise, we would likely need to use the Hawks R1
