Except his current deal doesn’t expire for two more years.

= buying price goes up.

AKA Geelong FC strategy.

Agree with previous poster - I rate Waterman, just not in our best 6 ‘too tall’ forward line.

If both parties were agreeable he’d be worth a look at entertain8ng an offer for.

Offer too low - we keep.

Read that there has been interest for Jake Waterman from Paul Peos (manager)

This is any interesting one!

Personally I rate Jake but he's been the victim of the land of the giants up forward, but doesn't have the versatility to play on a wing.

We can't go into another year of JK, JD, OA plus a resting ruckman ( most likely Williams). Can't hurt his development like Brander

In that case, do we cash in and us 35 plus Jake to get a pick in the first round?

Otherwise, maybe its best if JK retires for the good of the clubs future.

JD, OA and Jake with Rioli and Ryan. Is still a very good forward line

Yeah but what did his Aunty say?

I think the interest was from Cervantes or another cashed up country team
Mate, he's more than capable AFL player.

Would be the 3rd tall at most clubs, would play the Tom Lynch (Crows) role very well given the opportunity

Problem is that we've been playing JK, JD, OA as well. Not to mention our horrible ball movement this year

Re Waterman, like Brander, he has suffered from being shunted all over the park. Much as I love JK it simplifies our forward line if he goes now. Allows the resting ruck more time on ground not the pine. (And Williams needs more game time to develop.)

If JK stays then instead of playing only 80% of games - as some here have suggested - he could be used in bursts allowing him to roam more widely. I think he’s better up the ground than JD. His reduced game time would allow both rucks to be on the ground more.

But while JK may be okay to start the season he might be an old man by finals time. Have absolutely loved your work JK. Every goal has made Carlton wince. But for the sake of team time to go.

Fringe player at best with no adequate position at AFL level.

“Would be the 3rd tall at most clubs”: wouldn’t get a game at most clubs.

“Problem is that we've been playing JK, JD, OA as well”: problem is he has below average fitness attributes with minimal endurance and lack of repeat sprint ability, is not tall or strong enough or a good enough contested mark to play as a key position player, and not agile or skillful enough to play as a small. Long way behind JK, JD, OA at their worst.

I’d fantasize over things or address my delusions over the preseason rather than contemplating trading waterman for a first round draft pick. But there’s a fair support group for these things on this forum, so you’re in the right place

Found this from the 2016 draft. I wonder if the Halls Creek connection might influence whether we take Cedric Cox?

I wonder if the club thinks they just did get a midfielder in SPS. I hope we still go a midfielder with our first pick but weve been let down every year we hope for that.

I dont rate Waterman that highly but there are definitely teams that could do with a forward like him. Freo would snap him up for a start.

No MJ or JvR - I think we have seen enough

Any insights on why Draper doesn't seem to getting as much attention as some others, ECE? He looks like a great pick from footage I've seen, really smart with his body work and positioning both forward and midfield. Would be able to impact from day 1 closer to goals. Can see the Robbie Gray comparisons.

Is it just cos he's had less exposure as a pure mid, playing a 50-50 fwd/mid split? Or is he lacking in some area we'd expect from a topline midfielder (groundballs, defensive running, tackling, etc etc). Must be something I don't see in highlight vids.
Only thing I can knock him for is his build is only slight, but his core looks so strong.
I think he'll be a gun, and for South Adelaide he's played Seniors already showing he can mix it with bigger bodies.
I think he's type you can put anywhere on the ground and he'll have an impact. He'll definitely be a mid in future years, but can rest forward.
I don't have any pure midfielder reservations for him (maybe others do), I've seen him play in the guts and was awesome.

If there is interest in Waterman from elsewhere the club would be reckless not to explore it.

Sits behind Kennedy, Darling, and Allen for a key position up forward - and arguably is less effective than Ryan and Williams in an isolated forward role as well.

All too often when he plays opponents will end up with 30+ possessions off half back, walking the ball out of defence as his approach to forward pressure is terrible.

He is not in the best 22 of this squad, and looks unlikely to be so in the foreseeable future.

If he can be exchanged for a player or pick that will improve that best 22 in either this or the coming seasons, that would obviously be of benefit to the club.

How did he 'screw us over'?

He quit the WAFL team and went back up north, whether that counts as “screwing us over” or just making a life decision would be up for debate.

Less effective than Williams? Pretty sure Waterman can at least kick a goal

I know you're taking the piss, unsure if you've seen this article anyway:

Left us without a marquee player, which was a bit shit but not quite screwing over levels.
