I think Kennedy is going to sign on for another season after his managed out this week.

Just thinking it. There's no reason now to manage Kennedy out of games.
The only reason I feel we done it is because he does have a future beyond 2022. Otherwise why would we prevent Kennedy playing as many games as possible in his final season letting him take it all in and enjoy his remaining games. We have nothing to lose in playing him as we are sitting 2nd last and he doesn't anything to lose either by playing as many games as he can.

Kennedy managed now is telling me he is going around for another season.

Say what you want about Mathieson, I have no expectations of him being a star but from I have heard is he is the ultimate club man. When he was getting games in the firsts he’d still be out running water for the magoos and encouraging the players.

I’m more than happy to bring that sort of guy into the club while we’re rebuilding to start getting some “play for each other” attitude back into the club.

Can’t remember the last time one of our players put a shepherd on for one of their team mates.

Wouldn't mind Mathieson if he came for next to nothing, but would mind paying top draft bucks for Jackson after the Kelly debacle

It sounds like there's enough quality in the kids to justify splitting pick 2 or 3

He’s already said that he’s retiring

I disagree. I read somewhere here that he struggles to get up for every game these days. If that's true it's more than likely he just needs this one off.

And if he has one or two performances like last week left in him that would be an awesome way to go out rather than hanging around for too long.

You do realise he said this was his last year - the interview was about 6 weeks ago

It would probably be something like a pick trade upgrade.

Your third round pick for Mathieson and our lower third round pick.

Pure speculation on our board is that he’s most likely on minimum wage.

It’s a strange rumour, because he’s still contracted for another year. He is the ultimate club man, but he’s purely depth.

Nick Robertson (is he still playing WAFL) is one of Margo’s mates, and was his running coach when at the Lions.

Interesting about Ginbey, been flying under the radar. It's ROYAL EAGLE boy.

Been playing seniors and has a nice left foot and gets his hands free to dish off. 189cm Midfielder.

Barnett on our radar.

AFL Draft 2022: WA’s Elijah Hewett to test his mettle against prospective no.1 pick Will Ashcroft in under-18s

WA young gun Elijah Hewett faces a draft defining showdown with Vic Metro’s Will Ashcroft this weekend in a head-to-head battle with the potential to shape West Coast’s draft strategy.
Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett indicated this week that while the club would not rule out splitting their first round pick at the draft, they would be reluctant to do it and would need to be convinced their circumstances fit it.
West Coast remain in the race to lure Luke Jackson from Melbourne and Liam Baker from Richmond but are believed to be more hopeful than confident.

AFL rules dictate that they must take at least one first-round pick this year because they have traded out first-round picks in recent years.
That would mean they would almost certainly have to split their pick to two later selections in the first round to use one of them to trade for either Jackson or Baker.
The alternative would be to retain one pick at the top end of the draft if they believed a player in the draft pool warranted the investment.
“We are more likely to stay (with one pick),” Nisbett said. “You never say never in a draft situation. But we will probably be going that way.”
The West Australian understands that 16 of the 18 AFL clubs have already spoken to Hewett, regarded as one of three outstanding WA prospects for this year with East Perth key defender Jed Busslinger and Royals midfielder Reuben Ginbey.

Busslinger, a 196cm athlete, is regarded by his peers as the best player in the WA talent pool but the Eagles have Tom Barrass secured a on a long-term deal with Rhett Bazzo and Harry Edwards coming through, on top of veteran Jeremy McGovern.

Some recruiters believe Ginbey is the most talented but least exposed of the WA boys and will emerge as the best player from here at the national under 18 championships. WA play their first match of the championships against Vic Metro at Ikon Park in Melbourne on Saturday afternoon.
The clash between Hewett, a star for Swan Districts in last year’s colts finals and as an under age player in under 18s matches in 2021, and Ashcroft, son of former Brisbane star Marcus and rated as the most professional and AFL ready young midfielder in this year’s draft pool, will go some way to indicating Hewett’s draft position.

West Coast are not out of the race for Jackson but have been exploring fresh ruck options in the draft pool.
It is understood that a team of recruiters recently spent time in South Australia looking at ruck prospects including West Adelaide teenager Harry Barnett and South Adelaide’s Will Verrall.

Why would our CEO want to be commenting about our draft strategy in terms of picks? Especially this early in the year. His discussions pre trade about Brander was abhorrent and now this!!

FFS Trev - your job is to get very competent people in positions to do this work properly. He has 3 major vacancies
1. List manager - recruiter on his last legs is double batting it and not even located where the players are
2. Football Ops manager - lacking leadership and vacant from Vozzo so split the role and Simmo reports to him directly
3. Strength and Conditioning manager - the current head looks out of his depth

You think after 22 in the same job you would have the right succession plan and solid structures.

Exact same feeling I got. Even though I'm pretty sure he has said this season will be his last, I think he'll go one more. He's still going at 2 goals per game. I wouldn't be surprised if Hurn goes another too.

It's a standard response and doesn't undermine the head recruiter. Everyone knows you don't split a top 5 pick unless you can still get what you want by doing it, and such situations are rare. It would be a standard club position and pretty much one all clubs would have.

List Manager - Toddy
Football Ops - Toddy
S+C - Toddy.

All bases are covered.

What did Nisbitt say that was harmful?

He said we would likely stick with our pick but if a compelling offer came they would consider it.

Thats exactluy what we should be saying.

Now we just advertised it. So what?

And there you may have described why we would be interested.

We dont know who is leaving / retiring.

One more bad hammie Shuey is gone. That might happen anyway.

Yeo to halfback isnt silly as he gets older.

We let Witherden go as a depth player he needs to be more accountable.

Gaff posible trade with Eagles paying some salary.

Joyce, Naish, Jackson, Winder, Petruccelle, Trew moved on.

From reports of the Beagles its almost toxic the culture. Maybe we have identified combative players who will help rebuild our culture and look after all the kids we are about to draft.

It tells me JK is sore and struggling to get up to play this week ..

Or he's being managed because he's old and sore. And we dont want to win too many more games

So i believe reuben ginbey, was mentioned on here not too long ago. Is there a reason he's been flying under the radar til now?
And what do junior watchers think his draft range could get to?

Rhys Mathieson offers us a couple of traits we sorely lack: he can scrap for a ground ball, and he can disrupt opposition movement with pressure. Actually, a bit like Liam Baker, but without the skills. I don't think there's any club in the league where he'd be comfortably best 22 - not us, not even North Melbourne - but I can see the merit in having him on a list. We've been a silver service midfield for a while, and I don't mind an injection of mongrel. The issue is that we'd be building too big an army of foot soldiers - West, Clark, Mathieson, Trew, Joyce, O'Neill. You probably can't carry any more than 3 from that group, so either we're cutting heavily, or we won't be recruiting Mathieson.

Eagles looking at a few SA ruckman as Jackson unlikely , read their names but forgot now ......Harry Barnett was one of the two .
We won't sell the farm trading players in .

I hate it when players duck to draw a free kick and then the commentators says the free kick was there. That was play on (Ashcroft).
