Moving closer to the missus family who live on the Gold Coast.

I am still stunned that he and his missus chose the Gold Coast over Goomalling.

not.

not.
As someone who grew up in Northam and Wickepin I feel that you are being very prejudiced and overly negative about country towns. Townist, if you wish.

Mind you, I'd probably choose Gold Coast as well. And I hate the place!

A couple of observations:
  • Hewett is not falling to pick 14
  • Robertson is not worth a second rounder. He was drafted in the second round 3 years ago and he’s done nothing to justify that rating since. I don’t buy the theory that Brisbane’s midfield is so elite that there’s simply no opportunity for Robertson; Tunstill has got games at Brisbane, so has Mathieson and Mitch Robinson. He’s just not that good. He’s this year’s SPS.

AFL Draft: Josh Kennedy retirement, Will Ashcroft’s Brisbane link brings Vic forward into focus for West Coast

A rangy left0footed tall forward in the mould of Geelong’s Jeremy Cameron is shaping as an potential draft replacement for Eagles spearhead Josh Kennedy in this year’s draft.

West Coast have been linked to Greater Western Victoria Rebels tall forward Aaron Cadman – a 196cm forward who is likely to come into even stronger focus for the Eagles now that Will Ashcroft has committed to Brisbane as a father-son draftee.

Ashcroft is rated as the best midfield prospect in this draft and the most likely to be AFL ready in 2023.

Cadman, who has starred in attack for both his NAB League under 18s team and the Victoria Country team, has grown up as a Richmond supporter but has links to WA with his family having several years here.

West Coast’s draft strategy will depend greatly on how they view the calibre of other midfielders in the draft after Ashcroft’s decision to opt in as a Lions father-son.

Brisbane will certainly match any early bid for Ashcroft, the player widely tipped as the No.1 pick.

The initial view of the likely Eagles strategy was that they would opt for midfielders, pace and power with Luke Shuey (32) with hamstring issues, Jack Redden to turn 32 later in the year and Andrew Gaff, 30, all at the veteran stage.

Elliot Yeo’s (28) battles with groin and soft tissue issues has further compounded the problem.

But the Eagles did pick up midfielder Jai Culley in the mid-season rookie draft while Campbell Chesser is highly rated and hasn’t played yet. Tim Kelly is still 28 and in his prime.

And while the Eagles have Jack Darling and Oscar Allen to play as tall forwards next year Darling is 30 and tall forward options take longer to mature. Rhett Bazzo, drafted last year, is regarded as a defender and Jack Williams is considered a forward/ruck type who will take some time.

Cadman’s interstate 18s form has lifted him in draft reckoning from a player likely to be taken in the middle stages of the first round (somewhere between 10-15), to one likely to be taken inside of the top 10 with his stocks rising rapidly.

He is now considered to be slightly ahead of WA’s three most likely first round prospects – key defender Jed Busslinger, midfielder Reuben Ginbey and midfielder-forward Elijah Hewett.

Yeah I doubt Sydney get better from compo
Sydney, like Nth, care a LOT about marketing.

I reckon for a late 3rd they may well just match any offer and refuse a trade.

Early-mid 2nd would be about right, especially if Brisbane are offering 2 years. It's not out of the realm they may expect a 1st. I mean if we were forced to begrudgingly trade Nic would we be happy with a token 3rd as he is old?

Sensible with multiple caveats.

Mids we desperately need. We cetrainly need a key forward target as well to replace Darling assuming Allen is a winner.

But one word springs to mind - Brander.

Buddy is old and broken - Swans know it.

He’s an unrestricted free agent.

I would rather redraft Tom Lamb than draft Cadman with a top 10 pick. Cadman can't kick. He is great with his body, his timing is great and he is a good mark but he straight up can't kick. is a 50/50 shot from anywhere more than 20 metres out. He's up there with Bailey Williams in regards to goal kicking he is just getting a lot more shots on goal due to a very weak group of tall defenders he is playing against and is mostly getting his shots inside 40 at low angles and is still kicking horrendously. Jefferson isn't as good with his timing or on the lead and is still only just better than a 50/50 kick for goal. Neither are in my top 25 for that reason.

If we do downgrade our first rounder for say 2 picks around 9-10 then I just ****ing hope that someone else jumps on Cadman first if that's what WCE recruiters are saying. I'll be at the Metro vs Country game and will see if i can buddy up to anyone in the WCE circle as the club im working for could potentially have the picks WCE are looking for.

Also for 2025 draft watchers keep an eye on Malakai Champion. He is only 171cm atm but hopefully still has some growing to do. Has some amazing skills and tricks as a small forward with the ability to get further up the ground as well.

One of the best users and kicks for goal i've seen in a long time and both his lead up work, pack reading and ground ball game are exceptional. Haven't heard of any major family issues either (it is incredibly common for a south bunbury boy as drugs are rampant down here) of any race for those thinking i'm making a racist comment here. One thing players don't lose from 16-18 particularly as smalls is that ability to read play and skills.

A close friend of mine who played for souths in 4 premierships and is a life member as well as their chairman and I were discussing him the other day over lunch as well as what i've seen of him so keep an eye out. Both agreed with me that he is a better small forward at his age than Jeff Farmer was and his kicking is on a par with Lewis Jetta but not with the 60m kicking depth.

(my leg and crutches got me out of paying for lunch so John picked up the tab)

Freo should be the ones throwing the kitchen sink at Franklin, could be the difference between winning a flag or not. Would be a better option than Taberner.

Buddy wouldn't survive playing on the concrete surface of Optus.

Nor would he move to Perth, his misso is building a nice little business in Sydney with his help.

Where was Brander rated and picked in the 1st round?

This kid is already taller than Brander in his draft year.

Eagles need a tall KP forward and they all take time to develop, more time than mids.

It is pretty obvious we will need to draft one, and a good one at some stage.

So in summary two events that the whole world already knew would occur (JK retiring and Ashcroft nominating Brissy) now have happened our draft strategy should change, and we can only pick West Aussies

Contender for least amount of thought put into an article this year imo

Def think we need to go with a mid with our first pick.
If the the tall forwards aren’t great in this draft ,why waste a top end pick on them and few years in development.
Surely we try and get Georgiades out of Port.
Nice kick on him & takes a screamer to.
Could see him slotting in nicely Jd & Oscar

He's looking at moving to Brisbane.

Wife's family is on the GC. His wife's business will be mainly East Coast based. A lot easier to get up and down between Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne than trying to do that out of Perth.

I would for Sydney to be on the end of losing a key forward in a trade for once.

He signs a 2 year extension to the end of 2026 and we go hard with 2 first rounders if he comes on as expected. If he is to come on and be a forward and second ruck then Jack Williams will stay deep and we play my coaching technique of two leading CHF's to either side of outside the square coming from defence. The moment one gets the ball the other runs deep to inside 50 for the leading jumping mark whilst the big body ties up the deep defender.

It's where I see Allen and Mcdonald excelling and I think it is the potential next stage of forward line evolution.
