Gaff is well past it. West Coast should not be sentimental and keep him. We need a change in the squad and he needs to go. Zac Langdon is a hard worker, but he is not up to AFL standard unfortunately, but he does give it a crack at least. Some of his forward tackling pressure was ok

Gaff is problematic I agree but just how do you propose he goes given he has a contract until 2024

Unless a club is willing to trade for him which would require us paying some of his salary AND he agrees to shift he’s our problem whether we like it or not

What an albatross that contract has become. Wouldn't be many worse around the league I wouldn't have thought

Dan Hannebery comes to mind

At least it finishes this year

So how does the club 'make Gaff go'?

Who would take him?

Jared Polec at North is almost as bad. Shows the magnitude of the rule changes that two guys who were key to their team's transition are now redundant.

Imagine if North got Gaff as well as Polec 🤣

Gaffs strength has always been his tank, but having a big tank doesn't cut it with players now needing to be multi dimensional. Gaffs vision always seems to be an issue in that his first instinct is to look sideways or backwards before looking forward (squinty eyes). Gaff can't stick a tackle and isn't very defensive (except for the Brayshaw jaw thing). His running patterns are up and down the wing and is very one sided. If I was Simmo I'd be asking how he feels about the backup ruck role.

I genuinely hope Gaff is fighting through some sort of injury that has impacted his running capacity this season

It wouldn’t excuse him being played since the bye when we have had somewhat reasonable numbers to select from. However it would at least give some hope that over the break he can recover (even if it requires surgery) such that we get a better version of Gaff in 2023

Because, if there’s no injury and this is the best he is now capable of we’re in a world of hurt. Right now he’s well below the standard we had come to expect from him, especially at the time he was given his existing contract in 2018

The terrible thing about Gaff's form is that his footy is super low IQ atm. He's one of the few older players in the squad that have struggled to adjust their first instinct from the slower, chip around model of WC footy. Not sure being fully fit fixes that.

This would be a nice draft.

2 - George Wardlaw
20 - Bailey Humphrey
25 - Harry Barnett
38 - Sam Gilbey

Rookie - Tom Scully.

NGA's - T.Dewar, J.Baker.

I doubt this is how it will turn out but I think its a good mix. Would also love to grab another first rounder somehow.

If an offer came for Duggan (in this case say, an early second rounder), we should take it

How this guy has escaped being dropped after being largely god awful for the entire year is one of footballs great mysteries

He has regressed immensely and has spent the better part of the year looking absolutely lost in our defensive zone and being a turnover merchant
He had no preseason , needs another surgery but just playing through the season and is in a defensive under immense pressure because our midfielders in shuey and kelly refuse to run both ways .

Think this is far more realistic than the more extreme calls like trading out and retiring all of our senior midfielders in one hit.

Only question I have is who would take Williams? Or would he be a Brander-style freebie?

Would like our last pick to be a much better pick than the 74 it currently is.
Melbourne may be interested in BW if they lose Jackson

I really want to know how Naish went from early season player who showed signs to a near delist certainty.

Also regarding Witherden, does anyone think we are actually going to delist him? I doubt it

The games he played well in were the ones where it was a shitshow and we didn't really follow much of a game plan so he could play his natural game.
As soon as we got enough guys back to go back to playing our gameplan he strangely went to shit...

This draft is weird. Some people say it's s**t and others say it's great.
Seems to polarise those in the know.

Humphrey B Bear is another that has now popped up.
It’s not sh!t. But it’s not great either.

It lacks genuine A grade talent. There’s no Petracca or Walsh or King twin like key forward at the top of the draft.

It’s got good depth right through the first round. But it does appear pretty shallow after the top 30 or so.

But as we’ve seen many times before, teams will go looking to fill a need, and take a speculative player earlier than expected, ignoring best available talent still on board, which push the talent a little deeper than expected.

The “good news” is, seeing as you need talent all over the field, you’re in a position to just take “best player available” at each of your first three picks, you don’t need to worry if there’s some duplication this year.
