pick 1, culley. 2nd round pic, florenca.

Would anyone be disappointed if this occurred? Sure we may be able to do slightly better than florenca long term, but short to medium unlikely to beat, and any 19 year old we picked is just as likely be delisted at the end of the year as to make it to 50 games.

Linked to Carmichael and CUlley in this article
Interesting. Seems like they’re just speculating regarding Culley but hope not. Also said we’ll grab Florenca with our second which is promising. IIRC Fox were the first to report our interest in Chesser so hopefully they’re on the money again

Dream scenario for mine.

Given he’s put his hand up for a 18 month contract there’s really no reason not to pick Culley if we can. The only hesitation for me was if we had him for 6 months and he expressed a desire to stay in Melbourne. An extra year gives us plenty of time to convince him to stay on if he plays well.

If we take Culley then Florenca I'll personally sign our list manager up for a pie of the month club:

Agree.

Retention has never been an issue for us (we've lost a couple, but not after initial draftee contracts). The issue with a 6-month MSD contract is he may have just not wanted to come over and then expected a trade at the end of the season (unlikely, but you never know).

18 months is win/win.

James Blanck

The Hawks looked at Blanck to train with them as a potential pre-season supplemental period selection but he was ineligible after not nominating for last year's draft. However, after gaining an AFL exemption to qualify for the mid-season draft, Blanck is again on the radar and the Hawks could look at him given he has been under their noses at Box Hill. The 21-year-old is a 195cm key defender who contests well.

Jacob Bauer

Bauer was overlooked by Sydney during last year's draft process, having graduated from the club’s Academy system. He has since moved to North Adelaide, and into the forward line, where he's had an immediate impact with his athleticism and high-leaping marking ability. The 191cm forward kicked 13 goals from his first three SANFL games, with clubs noting some strong AFL attributes particularly in the air. Still just 19, and still adjusting to his new position in attack, clubs believe there is plenty of growth remaining in his game.

Jai Culley

A contender for the No.1 choice in the mid-season draft after an exciting first half of the season. Culley was overlooked at last year's draft after playing largely as a forward but has stamped himself as a 193cm midfield prospect this season with the Dandenong Stingrays. Had a huge game in the Young Guns contest against Vic Metro, kicking 4.2 from 22 disposals, five tackles and three clearances and has received strong interest from clubs. Could he be the next Jai Newcombe?

I don't think Derksen will last to the Dockers' pick in the MSD. Mobile qiality tall forward is not easy to get with this price.
He is a better forward to partner Allen than Darling (who is going down with age) in the long run. WCE should pick him with #1 pick.
Using 2022 National Draft picks for better midfielders is the way to go.

EDIT: We probably will have around 5300 Draft Points in the 2022 national draft which is equivalent to pick 5 + pick 6 + pick 7 - enough to pick a few good midfielders. (This has not been taken into consideration of us trading out players for more draft picks)
