I haven’t made up my mind yet but will probably be happy with either. As a recruiting team they speak about taking holistic approaches to both draft and trade periods (and I presume that will extend to the MSD). So it makes sense to me that whoever we pick next week may influence our strategy in November. We shall see.
This is true, if they really nail our first pick in the MSD like they did last year it will open up an extra list spot in the ND.
I think whatever happens we need to use our pick one in the ND on a ball winning midfielder. We can use later picks in the draft to load up on talls

Oh, that’s different from Yellow Feathers. Looks like he cracked the shits when we traded down from pick 6 because we’d miss out on Sheed and anyone else decent.

Then he walked back his threat to give up on WCE. Then he changed anyway.

Worked out well.

(For us)

Edit. Here’s his introduction to the GCS board

I was reading the rest of the page you linked and the thread gets into a debate about the recruiting manager's influence on each pick (does he have the final say, does the coach etc). Glad to see that nearly 10 years on, we're doing the same shit.

It actually made me smile. In 2013 I worried we'd stuffed the rebuild but we played in a GF 2 years later. Something tells me our club will be just fine :)

In the scheme of things a 193cm forward moving into the midfield is not a bad punt for the mid season draft.

Chris Doerre (aka knightmare) rates him as a potential 1st round selection if there was no mid season draft. He does like his over agers and mature age picks, in fairness.

I’d not be upset if we pick 2 of him, Florenca, Voss, D’ambrossio or Rogers. These are really free hits, and it gives these guys a chance to prove they belong at the level.

Pick Voss and we’d have the sons of Tyson Edwards, Michael Voss & Chris Naish on our list. Don’t know about you but I wouldn’t have had that on my bingo card 2 years ago.

Also- quite happy Cole has re-signed, he looked set for a big year pre-injury and at 25 he’s really just entering his prime. I can really see a Shep level of improvement over the next couple of years from him.

He’s by no means the missing link to turning our form around- but he’s best 22 when fit. In my mind he’s worth more to us than the pick 40 he might get in a trade.

Cole is arguably one of the most popular players on our list.

With all the talk of factions and the playing group splintering… need more of these glue guys types to stick around (esp now when we suck!)

It’s pretty early to get a read on pick 1 but it’s possible any of Lemmey, Busslinger or Scully get there. If the draft was tomorrow it seems Wardlaw or Ashcroft would be picked first but there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge. I also think we need another gun KPF.

If busslinger goes berserk in the second half of the year I can definitely see north picking him. Scully and Lemmey too if they have great second halves of the year and the champs. The sneaky tall for top 10 selection is Keeler. Super athletic and it would likely only take a couple of great second half of year games to put him in the top 5-10 conversation.

As it stands unless he has a horrible second half of the season I don't see Busslinger going past GC.

“We’re looking for young talent, not for the short term, it’s for the long-term,” Simpson told SEN.

“The guys who missed out on the draft last year, have they grown and developed in the last six months where they’re going to be draft-able by the end of next year and can you get in front of the competition by picking kids up in that space? That’s what everyone’s doing.

“We’re going to be picking pretty high and we’ll take the best talent at the end of the week.”
But Simpson says he has a young team at times when he means minimal games played. He even has Gibbs fooled- Chairman Russ goes on radio talking about our young 24 to 26 year olds.

The problem with Bonds insider info is that it is like your horoscope, it is always so vague and ambiguous, that he could never be proven wrong.

It's either smart and how you should post as an insider or a masterful troll.

Fun either way tbh.

At the very least he tries his guts out, I don't think he'll be as good as Shep mainly because I don't think his size will allow him to be as versatilve as Shep was but we're not in any position to be sending players with his attitude packing particularly when there's no materially better player in his position on our list.

Hopefully he proves me wrong.

I know some will laugh, but I actually think Rotham has the tools. When he was drafted his rebound from defence was great, was quick and a good kick and liked to take the game on. All of that has been trained out of him, he needs to get back to basics.
Agreed, he's a good size and has good pace and he did make some beautiful field kicks on the weekend.

Similar to his clone he doesn't seem to have great aggression in the contest nor the desire to actually win a ball back once it's in his opponents hands. If he could fix that and work a bit more to be damaging instead of just accumulating horizontal mark/kicks as the team dinks it around the back line he'd be a pretty handy player.

Shep as pick 7, cole??

If he could he would. Like many we have persevered for too long with he cannot - dumpster time

Cole is close to returning off the inactive list so maybe only one pick MSD and NicNat later in season
Culley big chance for us surely ...
Florenca is easily good enough but we're going for ( don't fall over ) youth .

Just remember the ages of Hurn, Kennedy, Shuey, Redden etc. To the eagles 25 could well be considered youth.

He was saying 10-12 weeks in that video, there’s only 13 weeks left in the season. Don’t see the point.

At the most, take him off in a couple of months and replace him with whoever’s leg has fallen off.
