Its clear sydney still need points for their academy boys aswell our picks this year were next to useless trying to get proven talent, may as well take a punt on guys like roy george later in the draft while bringing in langdon and witherden too

Now of Nic gets injured we're left with an injury prone spud (Vardy) or an undersized FWD/RCK whos played 3 games (Williams)

Project ruck Jamieson isn't worth mentioning at this point.
Delete your account campaigner. Williams is our future ruckman. He's like 2cm shorter than Hickey (and Brodie Grundy for that matter) with a vertical leap that more than makes up for it.

Turfing Hickey means we are all in on Williams' development, which I think is a great sign.

We can't keep basing our list management on being worried about Naitanui getting injured.

Roy george highlight package looked good but can’t kick the ball for shit. Him and Ainsworth can practise together. Best bet is rookie for me.

Is this the weakest draft hand in AFL history? We have literally traded our way completely out of it.

Clearly, we don't rate the players at all this year.

If it were Sydney's 2nd rounder and not Port's, that would have been a good deal.

Looking like it places Hickey at about pick 30-35 value.

But it now places us in a position of being out of the draft entirely.
How? We can still live trade future picks on draft night if there's something we like still on the board

The deal with Brisbane has already been agreed to in principle. We just have to squabble over how much they will pay.

We will take two picks in the draft 58,62 which on draft night will most likely come down to early 50’s by the time all the late 30’s and 40’s picks get jammed together for academy picks. I dare say our pick 38 will be around 10-12 spots different to our third rounders come draft night.

No top 20 picks for academy players next year and only a handful of father and sons in a draft that will have a significantly higher pool of players to choose from.

Either way we get Witherden, still have a few picks for this year and improve our draft standing next year. Wins all around for me.

Add Darling to that list.

I'd like to see us smooth out Gov's 1.2m deal.

Offer him another year at 600K and try to smooth out the years so we pay 900K x
Where do you pull this from?

Try 2nd in line. He's literally straight into the side as #1 ruck the second Naitanui goes down.

On face value i don't like the deal at all, given Hickeys importance to our list. He was the mainstay of our ruck division. The most "solid" and durable ruck we have.

If it helps land Witherden however, that's a different story.

Roy george highlight package looked good but can’t kick the ball for sh*t. Him and Ainsworth can practise together. Best bet is rookie for me.
Similar to the Ainsworth highlights?
Not real keen on drafting that name.
Commentators will forever be throwing in an "oh boy" everytime he does something good.

No by all reports its a very good draft . This group has been rated well just last year .

Problem is that lots of players are father son or academy linked to teams .

At the end of the day this will be the 2nd year in a row we have had to pick our 3 draftees from the 3rd round or later .

Hopefully we have a couple of rated guys slip under the radar until our picks

And asking “do you really want to hurt me” when he does something bad, or calling him a karma chameleon if he goes missing...

Another pre season & I would be hopeful of the club playing Williams as first ruck with OA giving him the chop out to make it through the match ahead of Hickey, who, being honest, has shown stuff all on field for us.

If fit, I'd have Vardy ahead of him too.

Sure Hickey has been durable, but what's the point of that when the contribution is not that much more than a ruck bag for the opposition?

Surely more to come in this trade period for us, we now have an extra 2nd and 3rd next year to use.

Hope our future 3rd for Witherden, keeping Swans.

Use our future 2nd in trade with Gold Coast for their 27, keeping Ports. Have to back ourselves to finish ahead of Port.

So I look at it a bit differently at the Hickey deal

Hickey + 34 +60
FOR
Port 2021 R2 + Sydney 2021 R3 + 58 + 62

What I see is a compromised 2020 draft and a pure very good 2021 draft. Therefore the 2021 picks will drift a lot but not much in 2021

Therefore

2020 Draft will see pick 34 drop by min 8 places with the NGA selections so will really be pick around 42
2020 Draft of picks 58, 60, 62 is like getting an extra pick around 60
Port should be a top 8 team in 2021 - they over achieved in 2020 with so many home games so at worst I would place the R2 pick at 36 (32 plus max 4 add ins)
Sydney should be bottom 8 in 2021 - their R3 pick at 44 (includes add ins)

It sees us getting about pick 31 for Hickey.

No complaints.

Besides - I expect we have agreed something with Sydney on trade night

I can live with what we have done.

Reckon we will cough up the future second to Brisbane.
Way I would play that is tell Brisbane you pay some of Witerdens contract you get the second, pay nothing you get the third.

Watch points going forward.

However I do have some concerns going forward that in 3-4 years time, we will have a gap in our list of 22-24 year olds.
Last years two picks were Jamison and Johnson, law of averages would say at best one stays on the list in two years time, if any.
Now this years draft contribution will be three, speculative picks, again the chances of any of theses making it, is slim.

+ Going Into the 2021 Season.

If we come away from this years draft and trade period with nothing more than Langdon and Witherden, then we have improved our list from last year. :whitecheck:

Going Forward 2021 and beyond.

What we will take into next years draft will be 1x First, 1 x Second and 2 x Third round picks.
We would want to nail that draft otherwise, the age gap deficiencies in our list will get appreciably worse.

So the jury is out for me, as I said, I can live with what we have done, but no doubt some work to be done drafting some kids over the next few drafts.
