LOL, ive been reading a few posts around (not on this board obviously) n theres a few posts saying Cooney is a little fat bloke running around saying he doesnt earn the hard ball gets.... he does get a lil lazy but i thought he was changing the pattern in the last 3 weeks

heh I'd agree early on this year when the OP was bothering him he was slow and sluggish around the ground, but the last 2 weeks he's been great and heading towards the consistency he's been striving for. But fat and little? no chance!

I saw Cooney at training a few times in the pre-season and I doubted he would play this season. He was almost a wheelchair case!! He is coming along very nicely and wait until the second half of the season when his fitness picks up. In the circumstances, he has been exceptional to date.

I have found him less flashy but more effective this season. He has developed a harder edge to his game, often found under packs now.

Inside midfielder is something I dont think many people would have thought he would develop inte, but he certainly looks as comfortable there as he does fishing off in the forward line (4 goals straight messrs Cloke & Rocca!)

you didn't think Cooney would develop into an inside mid? For what purpose do you think we drafted him?? Sorry, just thought that was a very odd comment, as I thought it was pretty obvious he WAS drafted to be an inside mid who can execute under intense pressure. He's always had the ability, just lacked the consistency.

I think if he was developing in a time other than the Judd era, people would be less critical of where he is at.
Things could easilly be a lot worse just look at Delidio.

Your spot on regarding him being less flashy but willing to be more team orientated, as is shown with his improved intensity, chasing, harassing and tackling.

On a side note, heard Rocket interviewed prior to the game on Sunday, and from what I gathered, Coons had been given a nice ol' rev up a couple of weeks back (probably the Hawks game). From that point on Rocket has been very happy with his attack and intensity.
