I don't think it's illegal to... be gay in the US

Of course it isnt now. But that is the goal of Project 2025

It will come in stages.

Obergefell will be overturned, placing SSM at risk

An executive order will ban gays in the military.

Then persecution of LGBT people will be left to the states initially, with the support of the federal government behind the scenes. Bans on LGBT people being in certain occupations for example. Bans on access to adoption or IVF. Bans on LGBT people's participation in civil society. I predict Oklahoma will lead the charge.

Persecution of the Jews in Germany didnt start with shipping to the concentration camps. It started with the above, but that is how it ends, and all of the above normalises the concept that LGBT people are somehow wrong, aberrant, and not worthy of protections afforded to other citzens. Every step makes the next one easier.

Maybe your experience here isnt a great predictor on what it might mean to the actual people impacted.

It is coming here too, an infection passed by the same sources, CPAC and the Christian nutjobs and Murdoch, now deeply embedded in the Coalition hard right which is all they have left. We will face the same fight here, and probably lose.

I am done fighting. Nobody gives a shit, or dismisses it like you did for their own reasons, because they are secretly ok with it.

I have given up on any of you useless shits lifting a finger when they come for me and my guy. We know we are on our own.

THe American abortion debate will rage on and on. Meanwhile, two thirds of American abortions are now done through pills rather than procedures - and that percentage will rise. And those pills are easily available online without a script in every state regardless of that state's abortion laws. The issue is people taking unprescribed medication, but it's just as big an issue in the exponentially growing wellness industry.
A life is a life. There needs to be some sort of a process before we willy nilly abort children because they are the wrong sex, which is happening already. I understand if there's rape or incest or any other devious and disgusting occurrence but if you do the deed you should be held accountable for your actions. There are plenty of contraceptions on the market. There are millions of people willing to adopt also. If it's the womans right to her own Body, then they also have to take into consideration the life they are about to end. It's ****ing disgusting and they are no different to killing any other human life form. That's my opinion and anyone else can get ****ed

You're paranoid. If I saw you and your partner being attacked by anyone I would probably jump in and break the campaigners teeth. Stop ****ing judging people you know nothing about and stop putting everyone in the same basket. If you're proud, be proud and stop playing the victim.

I have no idea what you're on about. Who's coming for you?. I've worked with gay people and have gay friends from 40 years ago and they certainly don't have the victim mentality you have. I can go back 40 years when people were still in the closet and abuse and violence was real. You live in a world where being gay is accepted in society at levels we've never seen before. At least you have a voice today, unlike 30 or 40 or even 20 years ago. Grow up

It's death by a thousand cuts.
The extreme "Christian" right has gained a worrying degree of influence in the US, and it's happening here with wackos like Tony Abbott and Scott Morrison.
I think trying to stop that creep to the right is why we're seeing the rise of "teal" independents that have moderate views.
In Germany these little steps led ultimately to the gas chambers.

ive had more threats of and actual physical violence in the last five years than the rest of my life combined. its already bad here and getting worse.

grow up?

you are a compkete empathy free zone. do you even get how much you sound like a complete arseh*le here? you cultivate a folksy anusing persona but underneath is something really dark and its on show here.

What sort of numbers do you think these abortions are happening in, these ones that are happening for foetuses being the wrong sex? Because it sounds very “they’re eating the dogs” to me. First of all, if it were happening mothers would be unlikely to admit to it. Secondly, as you say, abortion medications are available in some localities by mail over the internet and there would be no record of the reason for the termination.

I think it is a Christian fundamentalist talking point with no data behind it.

On the other hand, you mentioned that abortion isn’t illegal, whereas in fact there is simply no national protection of a right to abortion since the overturning of Roe vs Wade. In some instances at a state-based level in the US, abortion has been banned. Earlier this year it was estimated that in those states with abortion bans, 65,000 women have been forced to take a child, which was the result of rape, to term since July 2022. 65,000!!!

Phil Inn’s point is that it happens incrementally, and insidiously. I believe you when you say you would intervene if he and his partner were assaulted in the street, but what if instead he had reduced access to employment opportunities, or healthcare? What then? How can we see that and intervene? We can’t, it’s too late, and it’s not right in front of our faces.

The takeaway for me is, despite having the worst candidate for president in a US election in living memory, the Republicans won because the nation was not prepared to elect a woman of colour.

Hilary nearly got there in 2016; she won the popular vote, but she was white and seen as being from political royalty.

As soon as Kamala Harris became the Democratic nominee, the narrative turned to how she was unqualified (she is a former district attorney, and Biden’s VP, that’s about as qualified as you’re likely to get and certainly more qualified than Trump was when first elected), a poor debater (she still wiped the floor with Trump, such that he refused a second debate), and predictably that she slept her way to where she is (unfounded, and absolutely disgusting for this to be levelled at anyone running for the highest office in the nation). Then the questions thrown at her ethnicity which were straight from the playbook used on Obama.

Americans aren’t ready for a female president. The Democrats will probably roll out a middle-aged white guy with some semblance of charisma in 2028 and win in a landslide. But the supreme court is ****ed for a generation now, and fascism is on the rise across the western world.

Good luck policing it. A backyard abortion these days is the same pills that you'd get at an abortion clinic - just bought online or under the counter if they try to stop that.

I don't necessarily want to over police it. It should remain legal to some extent. I just think it gets done for the wrong reasons a fair bit and that doesn't go well for the babies that are being killed. Once it's in the belly, it's human

Nah. They become human at 25 years old. Little ****ers before then.
