Palmer?! As in Rhys Palmer?!

**** me are we ever going to get someone who knows how to kick the bloody thing?!

We have way too many players with kicking deficiencies. Its time we actually started recuriting players with some skills.

You may get your wish Stiffy. I have heard a whisper that J. Griffin is more likely to end up at the Weagles, in exchange for a certain long-kicking South Australian (with a swap of draft picks)

source? i assume you mean hurn, which would be sweet

Would be very nice to get Hurn but why would the Eagles want Griffin when they have NicNat and Cox. Unless the Eagles are serious about shopping Cox around, Grif would be playing WAFL.

I can't see why the Eagles would want to trade Hurn when he would be one of the best kicks on their list. If he wanted to come home that might be a different thing but I have not heard about that anywhere so I am not too sure that is a factor.

Now that would be huge for us. With Bock going we are going to lose a lot of run from defence. A penetrating kick off half back is exactly what we need.

Yes it's hardly an appealing trade for them.

What would it be?

Griffin + 2nd round = Hurn (if we could do it for a 3rd rounder it would be magnificent!!)

They could probably get a decent 2nd rounder for Cox (obviously he's better than that but age must be factored in), so they end up with their pick 4, possibly a GC compo pick, their early 2nd rounder, our 2nd rounder and another decent 2nd rounder for Cox...could be a great way for them to load up on decent talent, even in these so-called compromised drafts. Cox is hardly going to be around for their next flag and NicNat will need a back-up in case of injury.

In any case, i feel our 2nd rounder may come in handy for a trade this year. Hopefully we keep our 1st pick for some Rendell magic, unless a true top tier outside mid is on offer

It would take more than Griffin and 2nd round pick to get Hurn and it would definetly take more than a 2nd round pick to get Cox who is ONLY 29 years old which for a ruckman is NOT old.

Bunga was runner up in their B&F last year and despite all the "yeah but they are basketcase team so B&F mean nothing" talk, its just a pipe dream.

Bunga will cost a fair bit, so will Cox and so will Griffen (of the WB variety).

It will be interesting to see what we do here. We will have the cash to spend and I am hoping that we are well and truly over our reluctance to trade. This year we must be REALLY aggresive in trades. Identify the players you want and you think can convince to come over and then go out and get them.

Time to get real and realise that the teams that win the whole thing have had to complement their drafting and list development with some big trade aquisitions to complete the equation.

Concerns over Cox's durability will mean they will need a 3rd ruckman on the list. Quentin Lynch has filled that role in 2010, but it is likely he will be somewhere else in 2011. The only other ruckman on their list, Sullivan, is not AFL ready.
This is a case of a potential trade satisying the needs of both clubs, which is why it might get done.

So.... this is what i've summised from reading all these trade rumours.

Trades:

Adelaide: Sellar to Richmond: for Draft Picks Round 2 & 3 (they get the other big target they need in the forward line)(Draft Picks to be used in other trades).

Adelaide: J. Griffin + 2nd Round Draft Pick to West Coast: for Shannon Hurn

Adelaide: C. Knights + 2nd Round Draft Pick to WB: for Ryan Griffen

Adelaide: S. Mckernan + 3rd Round Dragt Pick to Kangas: for Lindsay Thomas

Now as i see it, we a decent ruckman, so why not chase M. Clark of Brisbane (This is not a rumour, it has no base, it's just a thought bouncing around in my head). With the emergence of Luenberger and when Brown and Fev are bouncing around the Forward line, not much room for Clark. Vossy traded for oldies last year so hopefully he would like to chase some young kids.So....

Adelaide: Priority Pick, 1st Round draft pick, 3rd Round Draft pick to Brisbane: Mitch Clark

Team:

Joncock Rutten Hurn
Dangerfield Davis Otten
Griffen Sloane Mackay
VB Walker Henderson
Porplyzia Tippet L. Thomas

M. Clark Thompson Vince

Maric/Moran Douglas Reilly Stevens/Young/Symes/etc.

Premiership team in 2 to 3 years! :D

Anyone else expecting that after all this excitement about maybe landing all these gun players, that we will actually walk out of trade week with what we walk out with every single year - absolutely nothing.

Realistically we will not be able to trade for Griffen and get Hurn as well. The biggest hurdle is the salary cap. Listening to what Phil Harper said he indicated that the only money the crows had regardless of the retirments is what they offered bock. Griff would eat that up with out a doubt. Hurn would have to want to come home to SA and not expect a pay rise.

We dont need lindsay thomas imo.

Would I be the only one thinking that PAV is not worth getting. He is 29 turning 30 and he could only have a maximum of 3 seasons left. By his standards he hasnt had a good year and you could argue is starting to show signs of being injury prone. he could easily turn into another carey for us. I just dont know. who knows he could come here and be an absolute gun for three seasons. its a 50/50 call in my book.

as much as im hoping we are very active and aggressive during trade week, i get the same sinking feeling that nothing will come of it

unlike previous years players from vic could go home cheap because of the fear factor of the PSD. Being west coast is at the bottom it means no player can comfortable leave the crows looking to go back home. This leaves trading as the only viable option.

With the amount of youngsters on the list it would be worth trading for some more experience but I dont want the club to sell its soul either looking to trade for a premiership.

Only time clubs improve in trades is

1. A club swaps a player (type in excess) for an equal player (type in need) fulfilling a need while also fulfilling the other clubs need. Win - Win

2. A club swaps draft picks (future) for a player (now). Win - Win

3. A club swaps crapola to get a player who wanted to go to the club. Win - Lose

1. Happens fairly often and normally with fringe players. This is the only trading I can see the Crows doing.

2. Crows have been burnt by this in the past and after Brisbane's train wreck cannot see many clubs doing this, least of all Adelaide and that is with the compromised draft aside.

3. Pretty much only occurs to a few of the big clubs in Vic or a club who is willing to pay over the odds for a player or a club who the player believes is about to achieve success (premiership). Crows are neither of these, so this will not happen.

So to sum it all up, I see GC nicking a bunch of good players and the rest of the clubs trading a few fringe players and hyping them up as great deals to save face.

Unfortunately yes!

I think it might be yet another year where we do nothing during the trade week and that has got to stop at some point.

When was the last time Adelaide did a trade for a star player?

.

IMO there aren't enough of these trades involving quality players due to each club feeling a desperate need to "win" the trade as opposed to recognising a need while appreciating they have a surplus of certain types of players and being willing to offer quality for quality which will improve both sides. So a Carlton with a huge number of quality midfielders and desperate need for kpp will - instead of coming in and throwing up 1 of their many good midfielders for a trade for a quality kpp, will instead say we'll give you, I don't know Browne for Walker or Bock.

I'd say Scott Thompson but at that time he had heaps of potential but had a number of injuries and was homesick. Not quite the same as landing say Griffen in full flight.

Technically Carey I guess although he was past his best and had to leave the kangas regardless, although at least we recognised what we needed/ went after it and got it. (Should have got Pav but that's a different story)

Thommo wasn't a star when we got him. He was a talented kid that played 39 games for the Demons and was coming off a serious injury (fractured knee cap).

Carey was a star but was more of a "past it" star considering he had shoulder recos, sat out a year and was past 30.

I honestly thing the last genuine star that we traded for might be Jarman

Peter Caven?

Re Nahas agree

Re Sellar, IMO he is not a AFL ruckman, yes he tries hard however we need more n the ruck

Big Jimmy fan, however his ruckwork will not turn us into a Premiership contender. However, he remains a vital part of our list whilst Griff is a chance of being traded and Moran's fitness is questionable (unless we pick up a quality ruckman via trade/draft)
