Big Jimmy fan, however his ruckwork will not turn us into a Premiership contender. However, he remains a vital part of our list whilst Griff is a chance of being traded and Moran's fitness is questionable (unless we pick up a quality ruckman via trade/draft)

Really? I think he's quite a good ruckman tap wise. Sure he won't be leading us in that position but I think he can hold is own in the second ruck spot.

For a 'mobile ruckman' he only managed two disposals on saturday night, even Maric took a few important grabs and would've got at least 10-12 touches. His ruckwork is not good and is too small at AFL level. People overestimate his skill after his last third of the season last year where he nothing more than average. Not saying to delist him, but a ruckman he is not. Moran i still think has the most potential, just not sure if you can fit him in with Maric, we were very reluctant to do it with Griffin.

Maybe we can do a big deal involving Thomas and McIntosh from the Kangas for Knights/Mckernan. Although i'd be reluctant to trade Mckernan as he could be a bit like Mitch Clarke. Then we could trade Griffin and Sellar, or something along those lines.

What we really need is quick skillful midfielders, Griffen probably won't happen, Gibb's the same. Originally i was on the Knights/first rounder for Griffen trade but if didn't, we could potentially get a very good mid with our first pick + keep a wicked HFF in Knights.

We don't have too much trade bait but i would try to dispose of Cook and Griffin, i'd take anything for either.

Was it Collingwood that was desperate to lure back Cook a year or two back? I wonder if they're still keen. He started the season off fairly well, but his last half has been pretty disappointing. I know we're hard up for young midfielders, but if we could get above market value for Cook, it'd be handy. I haven't written him off, but I struggle to see what a lot of other posters around here do.

ok so this is not a rumour i'm just asking a question.

why wouldn't the Crows go after Austin Wonamerri (sorry bad spelling)

with Liam Jurrah all the rage I think melbourne would be interested in letting him go, he would be a massive livewire in our forward line (if we can get him on the park)

and please Melbourne fans, i am not suggesting that he doesn't like Melbourne or the footy club or didn't just buy a house and tell everyone how much he hates Adelaide

its just a thought

Wona is signed on till end of next year, so won't happen unless he wants to leave or the club don't want him.

if Collingwood were interested in Cook, we wouldn't get much if anything for him.

why do some players only get 50% TOG? seems like such a waste, considering the increase in amount of rotations across the league, and us having a secondary ruckman who spends half the game on the pine, because either he's useless or cannot contribute enough to the team to be able to allow a running player to rest.

I seem to remember reading somewhere on this forum about a year ago that a few seasons ago we had a shot at Bell from Melbourne but they were able to outbid us which resulted in him staying at Melbourne. Now that Melbourne no long want him does anyone think we would still have any interest in him? I don't know anything about him myself I just remembered we had interest in him a while ago and was wondering if we still would.

No comment on the individual trades - I'll leave that to others.

However, to posters doubting our ability to be actively involved this year - there is no doubt we are well positioned to enter the trade scene.

First, with all the retirements we will have plenty of room on our list.

Then, Bocks offer would have been at the high end that AFC offers. Any club involved in a big name trade must be able to pay the big salary. We can, most other teams can't - that's a very big tick.

Then consider the other rumours flying around.

We may keep Knights - that would be a win IMO. But if he wants to go, that would be another BIG salary we can offer.

We may keep Griffin - I'd be pleased about that, too. But again, if he wants to go he would not currently be on a base grade contract. So we could trade in an established player.

Trading is not just about salaries, but I bet a lot of the last minute issues that cause so many failed trades are to do with contracts and payments.

It's never a level playing field, but for once we will be going into trade week at an advantage. We will be able to afford very good players.

No to Lindsay Thomas. Last thing we need is another soft, inconsistent, lazy, good game once in every ten game player. + He's not really a genuine crumber as well, he gets alot of his goals from set shots, we need a genuine crumber like Eddie Betts, Nahas, Garlett, Davey's etc. These types of guys can be EASILY found late on in the draft, no need to trade for one.

If he had played the full game he might've got to a four possession game :D

I'd give him a run in defense with Young out, and bring in Mckernan.

Being a bit tough on him, only his third AFL game for the year. Brisbane performance was really good considering he'd been out for so long. Entitled to a few weeks to settle back in. Won't get that in 2010 of course

Re Cook I'd take anything for him. A 6 pack? Small coke from McDonalds? Mark Latham?

Lindsay Thomas is what AFC hoped Jacky would become. I have no problem with us going after Thomas. He is a good player who would add something to our team. He should look better next to Tippett, Walker, Henderson, Porps etc than he does at North

Apparently Bassett wanted us to draft him when he was still on our list, but we didn't and he turned out pretttty good.

Not sure if this one has been dropped yet, but Shannon Hurn from WCE is aparently keen to come back to SA. I heard Adelaide is the preferred option but im hoping Port throw their hat in the ring. I'd love to have his pace and booming left foot off half back. Underrated player.

Think it may have been mentioned once before.

Didn't know he was terribly quick, but with a leg like his, gee would love to pick him up. Probably as close as you can get to a perfect replacement for Goody off the HBF. I hope he does decide to make the move home and I hope the hat Port throw in the ring isn't as good as ours;):D

Interested in your view as to his trade value?

Personally i wouldn't see the point in Knights being involved. While they are not identical players, there is a fair degree of overlap in their roles.

What type of sweeteners would be involved if McKernan was keen to go home (and i haven't heard any evidence of that, just seems an obvious target).

I really rate Knights and would love to get him at North but I agree a trade of Knights for Thomas probably has too much overlap and he would likely be competing more with Wright and Black over the next few years rather than someone like Campbell/Adams.

I guess if you trade it is probably best to look to cover a deficiency and I guess a KPP would be attractive to our club. It is not that we are devoid of young KPP it is just the forward KPPs haven't established yet and Tarrant is unfortunately being groomed as a FB. You just don't want to go another 2 years and then realise you need another KPF, that is when it can get problematic due to the development time.

I think McKernan would make a good target for us, some of his highlight packages from the SANFL look promising. I'm probably not a very good judge at the fine details of trading, but if there was a further sweetener required probably would be in the vicinity of upgrading a lower end pick that we would be using, I don't think another pick would be required as McKernan was a fairly decent pick in a good draft.

Our list space has been fairly tight last year and will probably be worse this year due to the youngins showing promise and I am not sure we will have enough room to use more than 4 picks this year unless we start booting out kids who are untested or have shown a bit.

His problem is most of our tall forwards have been injured and our midfielders are running around in nappies so the amount of insides 50s hasn't been great and the structure isn't there.

He was lazy in previous years and he copped a real bake over the pre-season and was told to cut out the diving for frees and that his work rate had to improve.

He has really been a much better player and has done a lot more team oriented work this year, he has kicked 29.26 but has also 17 goal assists which is the same for Rioli and Davis, he is also equal 12th in the comp for tackles inside 50 which is same as Varcoe, Betts, Banfield and the like. His contested disposal is also way up.

I think he would do a lot better in a forward line that has a better structure and if you don't put a very good small defender on him then he can really hurt the opposition on the scoreboard.

Wright, Edwards, Adams, Knights, Petrie, Black/Tarrant would be a very dangerous forward line. How embarrassing was Hansen's bodywork on the weekend? He's just too weak and dumb to take a side to a flag as a forward and would prefer he went back to defense. Knights would improve the side 5% as they generally fall down at half forward with too many dumb, unco players failing to find space, read the play or finish.

McKernan would be a great get also, but Knights would be more important.

I hate Lindsay Thomas. Irritates the f**k out of me. Plus everytime I see him play he looks soft as butter.

Has anyone actually come out and said McKernan was homesick? Or has it just stemmed from the fact he hasn't set the world on fire in his second year of AFL, meaning his is fed up and wants to go home?

From what I have seen from McKernan he is definately worth developing.

He was a good sprinter in High school even when he was a man child. Has decent pace without standing out.

I dont think he is looking for a return home though. It's a nice thought however.

If we can't attract a bloke like Hurn back home when his club is playing atrocious footy and at the bottom of the ladder, we never will. This is the year we would have to have a MASSIVE crack. :thumbsu:
