Crows V Port 20/20 to raise money for Victorian Bushfire victims

Wouldn't matter as long as the broadcasting company donated the money they got for the advertising. Would raise more money from tv advertising than people going to the game.

Probably easier for the sides since AAMI is their home ground, owned by the SANFL etc etc.

There is a four day game starting today, ending Monday. A one day game on Wednesday. I guess the 20/20 on the Tuesday does not allow "Sir" Les to prepare a pitch.

Goodwin signs ‘Boof’ for fundraiser

Simon Goodwin will captain a Crows Twenty20 cricket team featuring former Australian batsman Darren Lehmann.

And Crows goalkicking record-holder Tony Modra is the club’s ‘celebrity’ selection for SA Footy’s Bushfire Bash for Cash against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Tuesday night.

Former Woodville A grade allrounder Bernie Vince, speedster Brent Reilly and tidy batsman Chris Knights are among the other key selections.

Goodwin, a former State under 19 cricket captain, said he was pleased with the side’s bowling strength but slightly concerned about batting depth.

“We might have to some intensive training on the weekend to prepare,” he said. “But there will be a fair bit of pressure on ‘Boof’ and Bernie to make big scores.”

Goodwin invited Crows fans to get behind the game and support the players.

“We are playing Port, so of course we want to win,” he said. “All of the boys we have picked have played some cricket, so when we get out there they will be very competitive. It’s all for a fantastic cause.

“The Adelaide and Port players have given the bushfire fundraiser a good start, with the teams raising $5000 each.

The Crows team is: Goodwin, Lehmann, Modra, Brent Reilly, Bernie Vince, Chris Knights, Tyson Edwards, Brad Moran, Jared Petrenko, Aaron Kite, James Sellar.

For those that we thinking of printing their tickets at home - Ticketmaster is not offering this option for this game (given that it's a GA event that's understandable).

Does anyone know if you can purchase Ticketmaster tickets from Venue*Tix outlets yet?

You can just buy tickets at the gate.

Bushfire Bash raises $120,000 plus

Nearly 9,000 people saw cricket return to AAMI Stadium for the first time in 23 years as Port Adelaide defeated a gallant Adelaide in Tuesday’s SA Footy’s Bushfire Bash for Cash.

More than $120,000 was raised for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal thanks to the efforts of both AFL clubs and the SANFL along with the generosity of those in attendance.

The Crows made 155 from their 20 overs but Port reached the target in the 18th over.

Adelaide lost the toss and batted first with openers Vince and Knights off to a steady, albeit it slow start.

Star batsman Vince got the run rate moving with some beautiful cover drives before a low keeping ball from Brendan Lade had him on his knees with every grown man in the stadium wincing in pain.

Knights provided glimpses of his talent with a crunching six of Dizzy Gillespie over long off but one too many hooks saw him hold out to Gavin Wanganeen at square leg.

Glenn Dawson provided plenty of trouble for the batsman as even Darren Lehman struggled to middle off ‘The Cougars’ raw pace.

As Lehmann moved the score along Vince’s classy innings came to a spectacular end thanks to a diving catch by Paul Stewart at long off.

Captain Simon Goodwin showed he favoured the cover drive with some lusty blows through the covers while Darren Lehmann continued to thrill the crowd in the members.

Some late heavy hitting from Modra (47) had the members stand ducking for cover with Adelaide’s total moving over 150.

Aaron Kite gave Adelaide the perfect start in the second innings getting through Gavin Wanganeen’s defence before completing three laps of honour in celebration.

Man of the Match Glenn Dawson took to Englishman Brad Moran’s half trackers and helped Port along at ten an over. Moran’s efforts were ominous signs for this year’s Ashes series.

Jared ‘Pup’ Petrenko removed Dom Cassissi’s castle with one that moved away and after Reilly had Lade caught at square leg Adelaide was back in the contest with Port 3/67.

Dawson continued his heavy hitting and retired on 52 setting Port up for the remainder of the innings.

Skipper Travis Boak took to the Adelaide attack sending Vince and Goodwin over the fence with two piercing blows.

As the heat rose in the final overs umpire KG Cunningham took to a pint of beer but he didn’t have long to finish it as Troy Chaplin belted Goodwin for successive sixes to reach the 156 target.

Goodwin received Adelaide’s Man of the Match with his quickfire 28 and one wicket.

Congrats Port :) And well done both clubs for raising $120k! That's awesome work!

Modra hitting 47 makes me laugh :D

AAMI also donated $100 for each 4 and Vodafone donated $200 I think for each 6.

So congrats on those two companies as well. :thumbsu:

I think it was $250 for a six, anyway was a really good night except for allowing people to drink in the members, spilling beer everywhere. Very annoyed. However all up was a good night.

Awesome work by both clubs and every other individual that contributed to making this game happen at short notice. You've done SA proud by giving up your time and efforts for a very worthy cause. :thumbsu:

120k is a phenomenal effort and will go a long way to helping the bushfire victims.

Perhaps this could be an annual event to raise money for charity ?

Should have been at Adelaide Oval, would have raised a hell of a lot more and would have been a better spectacle and atmosphere.

MODRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

god I love him surely we can recruit him as a mature aged recruit he's still got it! him at 45 is still better than what we've had for the past 5 years!

Should have been at Adelaide Oval

Agree with you there, but then Adelaide Oval wasn't available. If this were to become an annual event (maybe get McGuinness McDermott on board and market it ala Slowdowns), it would be best at Adelaide Oval.

Have to admit seeing the cricket match on a green wicket is something normally akin to those Hong Kong tournaments...
