Crows V Port 20/20 to raise money for Victorian Bushfire victims

Bump....

Is it time to pull on the pads again and have the 2 local teams plant the stumps in the ground again for charity?

The people of far north queensland need as much help as they can get and it's time the AFC played the PAFC in a charity T20 game again.

Come on Triggy and Mark Haysman...make it happen. It's in need of a good cause. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Noble concept but I'm having trouble getting past the response we got from Queensland last year when we asked them to help the Murray-Darling and send us some water. Their response? **** off and move to Queensland if you want water. Karma's a bitch Bob Katter.

So you are hanging a State of people suffering their worst crisis based on the comments of politicians?

No Jenny. I also heard it a lot when I was up in Brisbane and Townsville last year, when I raised the issue to see what real people thought. I remember saying to my wife that Queensland people seem to care less about South Australia than the AFL does.

So a couple of them should die to teach them all a lesson?

Hard man.

PrideOf - I've no doubt that's 100% true.

Maybe their current predicament and any ensuing assistance will teach them some humility and have a different outcome next time?

Why sink to such a grade 9 high school level?

I don't think anyone wants people to die.. But their previously expressed opinions mean PrideOf has a good reason to be less sympathetic to their plight than would otherwise be the case.

Thanks for seeing the sentiment in my post and not posting a knee-jerk reaction.

I saw the footage of Toowoomba last night and it was truly shocking. No-one wants to go through that and I feel for those who have also lost loved ones as well.

The point I was making was when SA was asking for help, the response I got was 'move to Queensland you ****'. It was every state for itself. Now they're asking for help and we apparently need to pull together as a nation.

It was more a comment on their response to us, and how that may impact how we feel about them.

Hopefully our response to them will teach them some humility. Maybe the outcome will be different next time but honestly, I'd doubt it. We sent $$$, firefighters and fire fighting equipment to Victoria during their horrific bushfire disaster, but when we needed help with water, Victoria did what was best for their farmers and Melbourne's water supply. I'm just jaded at us doing what's best for the country when it suits everyone else but not having it reciprocated.

But the circumstances are very, very different. When we were asking for a helping hand with water shortage, we were not experiencing a natural disaster. The floods in Queensland are a disaster; we had a shortage of water and only needed a bit of help. They need a bloody miracle. Huge difference.

Let’s get this right and put apples with apples, not apples with oranges.

Do you honestly believe if we had another Ash Wednesday, the rest of the nation would just wash their hands with us and say....go eff yourself. Of course they wouldn't, they would help as people lives are in immediate danger.

I have empathy for the farmers who need the water to survive long term on the land but its not immediate life and death like both cases in Victoria and Queensland.

I would argue that we were experiencing a natural disaster. Been to the Coorong lately? Been to the Riverland to talk to growers who are ploughing thousands of fruit trees into the ground? Seen the salinity killing our farmlands?

The only difference here is timeframe. The events in Queensland have been instant, so they receive instant help. That's fair.

We have a problem with a longer timeframe. But our medium-term problem wasn't met with 'sure we'll sit down and work something out over 18 months to two years'. It was met with 'if you don't like it, then that's not our problem'.

I think everyone can see the horrendous issue SA was facing with the imminent demise of the Murray river. I believe the majority of Australia was also experiencing severe drought conditions at the time and couldn't see how they could possibly give up their water rights (ridiculous as they were) for the greater good. It wasn't just QLD farmers and irrigators that didn't want to play fair, it was NSW ones as well. There is no doubt in my mind that they were being incredibly selfish - but in times such as those it becomes every man for themselves. Right now, SA is not suffering - and in the coming months, all of these waters that are devastating QLD now, will flow down through the river systems regenerating everything in its wake including the Murray and the Coorong, bringing them from the depths of dispair.

It's unfortunate in one respect, because the issue will be diminished in the public eye until the next drought inevitably brings it to the forefront again.

But I say this with all sincerity, this is a disaster of massive proportions that we are facing in QLD right now, and we will need ALL of Australia to help us to recover.

this is a bit like one's man junk is another's treasure.... these floods are horrendous for queensland but in the long run the water that's gonna flow down to us could potentially be life saving for South Australians that have been facing crop distinction from the drought.

We live in a strange Country how we can go from raging Bushfires to raging Floods in just a coupple of years is crazy! or Mother nature is seriously pissed off with Australia. I almost fear what's Next....

the flood disaster was on the Russian news this morning so the whole world knows what's happening and I'm sure other countries will donate to help us out.

More like, from one side of the country to the other.

Floods in Queensland and Bush Fires in WA right now.

The extreme weather isn't exclusive to Australia, you only have to look to the Northern Hem to see the wild winter and freezing temperatures.
Not too many countries have been spared.

As far as the floods are concerned, it's not over yet with rain forecast until March on the eastern seaboard.

Unfortunately these Crows / Port charity matches are becoming an annual event.

If you think of the Boxing Day tsunami, bushfires, Haiti and flood there seems to be a disproportionate amount of catastrophes happening at this time of year.

If one were cynical you'd suggest that these tragedies are given greater air time relative to other tragedies due to it being an otherwise slow news period.
