Curtains for Hawthorn?

- probably ties with Carlton as the most inept defence in the AFL.

Umm - the Carlton defence that currently sits 4th best for points against, having "ineptly" conceded a whopping 15 points more than Collingwood has?

Despite having Bower out for 3 weeks AND his logical replacement unavailable?

Hawks will come home hard imo, just look at there ins to come back.

Franklin
Sewell
Burgoyne
Gibson
Hooper
Bailey
Taylor

Then Rioli is playing on 1 leg and Mitchel a hammy twinge.

Put them back in the team and you have a different looking out fit not just personnel but structural.

It's only round 4 their best is good enough to win a flag it will all depend on if the can get their best squad out their and gel in time for finals imo.

Don't know how they did it.

Came from absolutely nowhere and pinched a flag.

Now are fading back into obscurity.

Not hanging around to remain a "force" but are re-entering dud territory.

Very strange cycle.

I disagree that we are "re-entering dud territory" but lets say we are. What would people prefer, Win a flag and then slip or compete year after year and perhaps not get the flag? Not having a go at anyone, just asking the question.

On the slipping, if when we don't have injuries we are still "duds" then people will have a point that the injuries were just an excuse. I hope you all have that chance really soon! But again, this year is still a rebuilding year (IMHO).

Re: It would be better if we do not make the finals

I think the fact they 'topped up' this year with Gibson and Burgoyne showed they misjudged their list - they are not close to a flag and wont'e be for some time.

You say "topped up", Hawthorn says "drafted some experienced players" due to losing Crawford, Croad, Campbell and Dew within 12 months.

What is it with you saints fans and your hatred for the hawks, maybe 2008 prelim that we belted you guys by 10 goals and your still feeling the pain!!!

What is it with you Hawk fans and your sweeping generalities  As far as I can see theres less hate towards you then say Collingwood,Carlton and Geelong from most Saints supporters, but hell if I put you at 4th I guess you finally made the BIG 4 of something ;)

Haha!! I have to give you credit for that atleast we are in your top 4!

I wouldn't write Hawthorn off just yet but things don't look good. Once again injury has hit and they aren't up to covering for it. Have never really replaced Croad at CHB.

Not just Croad. A comparison between the players from the 08 team who are gone and what's replaced them paints a clear picture.

yep that's the one, carl having played adel, ess, rich, bris as opposed to coll having played wb melb st k haw. swap the opponents around and the differential would be signficantly larger i am tipping

It sounds a lot like 2009, yeah?
But hopefully in this instance our luck with impact injuries that we seem to be incurring on a regular basis will soon change.

In 1997 and 1998, Adelaide were 1-3 after 4 rounds. They went on to win the flag both years.
In 1999, North Melbourne were 1-3 after 4 rounds. They went on to win the flag.
In 2001, Brisbane were 1-3 after 4 rounds. They went on to win the flag.
In 2004, Geelong were 1-3 after 4 rounds. They went on to make the preliminary final.
In 2006, Sydney were 1-3 after 4 rounds. They went on to make the grand final.
In 2007, Geelong were 2-3 after 5 rounds. They went on to win the flag.

I'm not saying Hawthorn are a monty for the flag, but it's foolish to write a team off after a month of the season has transpired.
Good research.
Hawthorn are far from done at the moment, but continued losses will soon put an end to any finals aspirations.

Wouldn't get too excited about that; played the bottom two sides who are also the bottom 2 in terms of points scored. Let's just see how Carlton go over the next few weeks.

They've had a tough draw to start the year. Renouf has been fine so far, so I don't think rucks are as big a problem as they could have been. They need to throw some hack in as back up because using Schoey and Roughead in the ruck is rubbish.

All they need is the 07/08 Franklin to return this season and they will lift. Sewell is fairly important for their midfield to function. Gibson might not be rated but he was missed last night, because he had started the season well. Osborne is a capable small forward as he showed in the premiership year.

Still haven't replaced Croad. Mentality is still questionable but Collingwood came to play last night.

Great Post. Agree.:thumbsu:

Hawthorn have won 10 of their last 26.

Games against the likes of North, Carlton, West Coast and Essendon are 50/50 games at best.

update

10 of 27, 40/60 at best
