Can anyone shed some light on the interesting looking scoreline from Eltham V Williamstown on the weekend. Was the wind really a six goal advantage in the first two terms? How was the game played and where was it won/lost???

dont think the wind was much of an advantage at all.

elthams just jumped the cys at the start, but like last encounter they didnt go on with it but i think disipline let the turtles down at the end.

was a good game to watch though in the testing conditions

would have said it was probably a two, maybe three goal breeze blowing towards the far end. wasnt really much of an advantage, but its funny how sometimes only a slight breeze can give you that little bit exta confidence when kicking with it.

was only three points in it at half time, however we came out a bit flat, and as stated our discipline did cost us. with about ten minutes to go (not sure exactly how long) eltham kicked a goal to make the scores level, but as good sides do when challenged willy hit back with a few steadiers to seal victory.

good hard game played in good spirits, and credit to willy for sticking round and having a beer, buying raffle tickets etc..

I hear around the traps that K Donovan is back playing at La Trobe and might be getting a 1's start on the weekend.
This could be the player La Trobe need to get its season back on track

Good effort from Willy to bounce back after 1/4 time after been comprehensively beaten by Eltham in the first 30 minutes. They played good tough footy, but after that they seemed to run out of legs, were a bit loose on our midfielders and started to lose the contested possession.

The most disappointing part of the day was the lack of discipline showed by Eltham, led by Coach Hollywood. I'm sorry to say this coach, but your behaviours during that last 1/4 was next to terrible, which lead you to be reported. Is this still the case?? Calling the umpires 'F**king cheats', 'too sh*t to umpire us' all 1/4 reflects badly on yourself, the players and more importantly the Eltham Football Club. Following this was the consistent abuse you yelled at your players which resulted in fighting amongst your team on the ground which im sure helped Willy get across the line. We had supporters across the oval who could hear you and the comments after the game were not too encouraging for Eltham.

We are looking forward to the return bout (if there is one during the finals) cause it will be a hard, tough, physical game which Willy love playing in.

wind had no advantage at all as the opposite goal was the scoring end in the curtain raiser ...

have to agree with sand shoes ... Eltham dropped the ball ... when the going got tough, they preferred to be undiscipline and blame others rather than put in the hard yards ...

maybe they could take a leaf out of D Lee's book ... took a massive pack mark in the goal square that wasn't paid ... basically would have sealed the game ... but rather than complain he went on with it and helped assist the winning goal

make no mistake ... on their day Eltham is a worthy opponent ... but can they bring that day on when it counts?

I tried to tell every1 earlier in the season hes a mug.. Good 2 see hes finally gone and got reported. Karma 4 getting away with what he did in our game. Of course he did nothing wrong again this time, the umpires were out to get them and its a farce that should be thrown out at the tribunal i suspect.

Wafer, have u been banned from bigfooty? no tips last week, no 2 cents, starting 2 get worried.

C'mon guys no need to get Nikko all excited like that only to break his heart! Maybe you should check the VAFA website next time before you get sucked in again with strangers offering you candy Nikko???

The Willy match on the weekend was built up as a must win match for us and we played accordingly, if not for inaccurate kicking again we would have had Willy beaten and as if it was Déjà Vu with a 30+ point lead we had 3 injured players out for the rest of the game come to the bench, then with not enough midfield rotations to continue or game plan we again got run down but not without everyone giving their all, and that's all I can ask for as a coach. Of course we did cross that fine line between passion & frustration and myself included became very frustrated with how the result was heading in the last 1/4 with all the over umpiring etc. (but we won't criticise anything there!) I take full responsibility for getting a little carried away with yelling at the umpires about their decision making, and that is something I/we all have to address as a group over the remainder of the season. Possibly an umpires appreciation day could help????

In all we can take away alot of positives from our 2 games against Willy this season now as they are the yard stick and as an improving young team with key players back, a bench after 1/4 time & better discipline we don't have too far to go to reach and pass the standards they've set, so till next time we meet boys!

Cheers,
Hollywood

Well said Coach Hollywood!

Umpires' decisions are sometimes perplexing. Often contradictory. They do miss incidents when unsighted, but sometimes, I get a feeling they try to manipulate/control proceedings a little too much. Thats the bit that irks us all sometimes. Is'nt it? But who has ever had a decision overturned by blowing up at the ump? Let the boot etc. do the talking. Club discipline begins with the Pres. coach and captain. The Turtles have the goods, get on with the game boys.

Is Lee Murphy from Elsternwick the biggest cat trotting around in football?
What's happened to 'JC 15', and come to think of it, where has 'btown' gone to?
Thet were both yelling loud and proud until it came time to fess up on there identities. Obviously they are the two biggest cats geeting around at the moment.
C'mon girls, take off the skirts and get amongst it.

Do you mean we should kick the umpires?

Why don't you hack into Big Footy, find the posters' e mail addresses, locate from which IP address they are posting and then track them down to defend Elsternwick's honour in person?

No knackers, that is the pussies way to do it, he cant headbutt anything while yelling "they questioned my masculinity! froffies! burghbahwawa"

thats why.

Well said Coach - you have identified your problem and im sure you will fix it. You have been playing this grade of football for a few years now, so you know what the umpires are like. If they were top notch, they would be umpiring at a higher level, they arent! You should be used to them by now.

Whats the word on Hawthorns injuries for this week?? Ogge out? How about Big Fat Hot Dog Eating Dan?

We kicked one less point than Eltham, don't think it was inaccurancy that contributed to the loss at all. I just believe the better team won, but maybe i'm biased :). You guys let yourself down if anything by your poor discipline, and it started with you coach. Didn't feel like there was much love out there for the Eltham crew. 3 losses in a row now, is there a crisis meeting being called down at Eltham?

Ogge and Dan will play. they will be missing alot of their younger good players who have gone back to the bush for uni holidays. the word is that they searching for someone to play on Lee with Avery still out injured.

Avery played on Shave Lee last time and Lee kicked 13 on him - so i dont think he is a big loss! Wasnt aware that Hawthorn was a 'feeder' club for Uni students. Did they pick them up at the Geebung??

I think you will find he didn't play. It was Cheers not the Geebung.

from all accounts, the players who were supposedly injured against willy and had to go off, werent that injured at all.they were tired, and embarrased that they had surrended a good lead that they should have capitalized on.in affect, they were tanking!!! im sure that they will be certain starters this week. fitness, not discipline was the key behind willys win. the guys can run out full games. as for eltham.....well,half of the team were smoking cigarettes before the game, which probably doesnt help.

funny how every team is on about players missing etc.no excuse.willy have used 42 players in the seniors so far due to injury, and still havent lost.

bring on hawthorn
