Re: D4 Section Ammos

just be thankful they have gone. Good luck to them. If it works a lot of Div 4 sides will not see them again but if it doesn't work well it gives you the chance to remind them of what they did when you meet them in 09 or 10. Remember to be nice to those on the way up as you may meet them again on the way down.:D

Re: D4 Section Ammos

I doubt they would comee down, they avergae age of the 1's wont be that high...Are a few of the saints young guns leaving/same with salesian ? or all for they new club ? and also i have met a few of the st mary's boys out n had no probs, then again i didn't have to play against them :p. Good luck to them for having a crack at trying to make a go of it and being pro active, rather than sit there.

New Discussion topic

I have had much debate on this topic in the past and I find it is very interesting to discuss.

What is the Hardest Position to Play both Physically and Mentally?

Physically

Ruck - Have to be at every contest then wrestle a Gorilla. Also have to drop back in defense and stand in the hole as the forwards are steaming out. Also involves plenty jumping, running, falling and body clashes.

Mentally
Full Back - Usually playing on one of the oppositions best players, have to concentrate and be aware 100% of the time as even the smallest mistake or lapse in concentration can cost your team greatly. Also has a very high physical toll (wrestling, getting belted by forwards). The umpires also make it extremely difficult as they always favour the forward.

Thoughts Please.

Re: New Discussion topic

I'm inclined to agree, RM, especially about fullback. One of my boys plays junior footy and is almost always fullback, primarily because he's a team player, sticks to his man and does as the coach asks - so the coach relies on him in this role, even though he plays better and can bust sides open in the pocket or CHB.

For a kid, its an incredibly frustrating position to play. Stick to your man and they'll kick it from 30 out for a goal, go chasing the incoming forwards and they'll chip over your head to the FF. It's very tough mentally. My boy takes any loss very personally and telling him that the ball has had to travel past nine or ten of his teammates before it got to him doesn't make much difference!

I don't know that that umps always favour the forward, from what I've seen the forwards niggle and frustrate the backmen into doing something stupid - and you know that the original offender often goes unseen but the retaliator always does it in front of the umpire. Such is life. Having said that, league goalies are meant keep on top of stuff happening near the goals and let the fieldies know what is going on behind play.

Agree with the Ruckman for Physically.

Mentally? Coach!

I agree... though ruckman are probably rotated more than any other position, so they can get a fair rest.

Agreed (although at the D4 level Ruck Men find themselves running out at least 3/4). Also it depends where they are rotated to.

Spot on with the fullback RM, one position where the slightest mistake can hurt the team and really make you look stupid (unfortunetly I know from experience haha).

Not sure about the ruckmen, agree they do a tough job, some of the hard small onballers get a solid belting everyweek, guys like Penny for you and Bennett for the falcons.

Firstly Cowboy is not that small.

However I do agree the small on-ballers do get a belting but they also don't have to wrestle Ogres at every stoppage or alternatively jump into someone at every stoppage. Also the small on-ballers don't have to stand in the hole in front of marauding forwards where as a Ruck Men is pretty guaranteed to have to do this.

Good to see the discussion has fired up.

Rucks don't have to be as "accoutable" as say the on-ballers, on ballers could be streaming into the forward line only to have a rebound quick smart.. saying a ruck has to wrestle ogers is a little off, as it goes both ways, they are usually both "ogers" so it cancels that argument out as its all relative.. small v small, medium v medium and large v large.. rucks don't get tagged and targeted like some on ballers do week to week, they also get to every contest.. you'd just say the "followers" in general have the most "physical" position.. IMO anyways..

Im with ya hater, guys like papa copped it from every1, being him would have been the hardest position, St Mary's smallest on baller/best player...
Unlucky

if u lose in the midfield u lose the game, most pressure, hardest physically, and mentally.... I have great respect for ruckmen and backmen, just think midfielders cop the knocks and have the pressure on em,

to the point mentioned earlier about 1 mistake in backline is crucial, its the bloody same in any position, 1 mistake in front of goal is just a damaging as one @ full back, i dont get ur point here???

The size of the player in the position should not be taken into account when judging the hardness of the position.

If you make a mistake in the forward line the opposition has to get the ball to the other end to punish you for your mistake, midfield half the length of the ground. Given the ball has to travel a large distance to get to goal there is a greater chance your team can get the ball back. A mistake in the back line has instantaneous repercussions that is why a mistake in the back is much more damaging.

i will rebutt with the point of view that a mistake in the forward line is just as costly as it has taken all half the team to get it to full forward and then its stuffed it up... this argument can go on 4eva, any mistake at any end is just as crucial... a free kick out of the middle etc same deal, i see ur point just dont think its that valid!!

Full back is definately not the most metally straining position, i will say ruck is tough and definetly up there with the thoughest! But full back mentally requires discipline and to follow game plan thats it nothin fancy, i can't see this as being brain surgery, Physically well u gotta b stronger, bigger and quicker than the full forward, thats the only hard thing about it!!

Now if you played most of the game in the ruck, then were expected to go to full back and shut down a firing full forward, that would be a tough days work.
Couldn't imagine any coach having that much faith in one player though.

BTW, heard the audition as a forward was going well in Narita till you tried to rove your own crumbs and blew a hammy. Back to ruck I think Machine, especially with the new ruck rules for CSB released by VAFA.
