On the previous page is a link to the Daily Telegraph article. According to that, the GWS Melbourne talent scout team comprises Scully's father, Sheedy's son and a bully.

A CEO would get to thinking about that, as would a Board member.

I think there's more to come in this story. You run on business principles or you don't.

This is awesome...

Who does everyone think will take the Giants position in the AFL when they fold some time in the next few years haha..

How can you have a player and a coach and a known bully in the workplace looking after the recruiting.

Lucky for Scully the contract was front loaded, might not be any there in a few years, enjpy the money Phil Davi$

I'd be interested to hear why.

A little off topic, but they've improved immeasurably on even 3-4 years ago in my experience.

As for Scully's dad, it's not as though he's got no experience working in recruiting for an AFL club, and it would hardly be the first time that a player was recruited with the promise of employment for a family member thrown into the bargain.

Don't think it would be too hard to figure out who Holmes is alleged to have fallen out with on the Giants Board given that the majority of them are "community" based appointments with little or no knowledge of football.

Clearly been sacked because he couldn't keep the recruitment of Scully senior a secret. :p

Your CEO has been sacked 8 months after taking over - allegedly because he fell out with 2 members of the Board.

You've just become the first club asked to pay a non-player under the salary cap because you offered an inducement to a family member.

Your actual coach is really your assistant coach because your named senior coach is on an ego trip.

I'd say shambles is a pretty decent adjective.

You forgot the O'Meara disaster. :p

Dale Holmes isn't a bad guy, so I'm disappointed for him. I've meet him on a few occasions through some mutual friends and he has always conducted self in a welcoming manner and happy to have a chat about footy in general and GWS.
I can't wait to see what sort of statement GWS put out about his termination and what's taken place - there must have been a fair bit of mud been thrown around out there of recent. I can't imagine it just being the Scully thing.

This is pretty big news. I'm surprised there has only been a few dozen posts about it.

What sort of contract length do you think he would have been on? Unless something seriously untoward has taken place, you'd think Holmes might be in line for a nice little payout.

The AFL said not so long ago they weren't keen on big, early termination payouts, didn't they? Their official response to this should be amusing.

Approaching circus levels at the moment.

Storm in a teacup Sheedy would be pulling most to the strings and with Mark Willians doing most of the coaching I dont think this will cause very much trouble at all.

AFL Club CEOs come and go all the time and most dont have that much influence anyway. The best like Brian Cook tend to stay the longest.

Dave Matthews, currently the AFL's game development manager, will be the new chief executive of GWS - via The Age

Just stop the charade already and change the name from GWS to AFL.

The GWS recruiting team includes the father of their star signing, the son of coach Kevin Sheedy, Sam, and Neville Stibbard, stood down and then demoted over bullying claims this year

There are some people (and families) who are making alot of money through GWS, this has nothing to do with football. There's a hidden story going on behind the scene at this club and the AFL will do anything it can to stop it coming out, they created this disaster and they'll try fixing it with even more money.

Would seem pre-aranged, would it not. Swiftly dealt with to maintain some degree of confidence in this mob.

Definitely so. Sacked and within an hour someone new appointed. Possibly temporary? As I would have thought usually CEO's get voted in by the club's board?

Culture.. No Im serious the kinda crap thats been goin on is the foundations for what this club is being built on, what else dont we know? Yet...

I seriously hate this mob.
