for nothing?

Both guys cleared out our drafts those years. Not suggesting we didnt havea nice little sweet spot of luck there with NGA and F/S but thats not comparable with an ongoing academy thats producing top end talent every year
Name the top end talent that has come out of the academy so far and will be established A graders

I love how many Eagles fans are stressing about us getting pick 6+ and turbo charging the rebuild
Not really. In the last game of the season West Coast had 10 players 21 and under. Richmond only 2.

It's a turbo charge from a long was back given you are losing 3 of your best players.

Gold Coast can’t “win” from this situation.

If they play hardball, they miss out on one of the best players to nominate them for a trade.

If they really want Rioli, they’ll have to pay up (and by that I mean more than pick 6).

I think they’d rather be seen as paying overs to land a gun player than lose out on him all together.

It will be pick 6 plus a sweetener otherwise he stays and GCS look like idiots. Richmond hold all the power.

They would look more like idiots if they traded 6 for rioli.

If a gun player nominates you (hasn’t happened since GAJ) after your senior coach has demanded that you sign him and you don’t get the deal across the line because you’re playing hardball over a sweetener pick, the football world will collectively laugh at GCS.

The senior coach should not be having sway over recruitment and if he is then the club culture is poor.

Pick 6 would already be a hardball demand from the Tigers lol. Suggesting GC would be playing "hardball" for refusing to give up more than that is laughable.

This is Gold Coast we’re talking about, yeah? They gave you Bowes and a top ten pick for free. They traded pick two for Weller. They’re not exactly known for their sharp list management.

Exactly which means they should have learnt from their mistakes.

In your opinion.
Uhhh yeah, what's your point? You offered your opinion, I offered mine.

It seems the majority opinion excluding Tigers fans is that pick 6 is already overs for Rioli.

They have learnt, but not in the way that you think.

They keep drafting kids from interstate and these kids keep requesting trades home within five years, so they’re going to prioritise players who actually want to go there instead, hence why they will cough up for contracted Daniel Rioli.

They’ve learnt that flight risk high picks aren’t much value to them. Hardwick even came out and said they don’t need them. They want established players who want to be there but will need to pay a price.

Pick 6 plus more.

Jordan Dawson was traded in 2021 for Melbourne's future first round pick (which ended up being pick 18).

He played about half of 2021 as a back flank and half as a wing, and this how his season compared to Rioli's this year.

He was out of contract and we were fleeced in the deal, but he was also 3 years younger than Rioli is now.

The senior coach is involved in just about every big name trade.

What you think list managers just bring in guys and tells the coach to fit them in? The coach isn't the negotiator, but if he doesn't want or need the player, the club isn't trading for them. The coach is also often meeting with the players in the discussions probably before they even nominate.

Best move for Gold Coast is to trade that pick 6 into next year ASAP so Richmond stop asking for it, then offer pick 12+steak knives and see what happens
This is exactly what the Suns should do.

What are Richmond going to do? Crack the shits, don't do any trade and hold on to their 28 years old half back who doesn't want to be there while getting flogged each week or they could bring in a promising youngster at 12.

People act like Richmond has all the power here. Yes Rioli is under contract but he doesn't want to be there. They finished last this season and their list is only getting worse, they need this deal done as much as GC.
