What do you propose? Teams don't recruit the best players available? Eugenics-like restrictions on player/team heights? It's not heading in the right direction....if it matched average height then no problem mate. We are going down the path of basketball. Taking the game away from regular folk. I wonder what the height was of an American basketball player in 1950?
You misunderstand completely what I'm trying to say. What do you propose? Teams don't recruit the best players available? Eugenics-like restrictions on player/team heights?
The whole 'footy genes' discussion is pretty gross. The only reason we're the only professional sport with a father-son system is because the AFL is an old boys' club, so people like Peter Daicos doesn't have to imagine his boys not playing for Collingwood.
Such archaic BS.
No, it's because Ron Barrassi's father was killed in WWII and Norm Smith was his surrogate dad.The only reason we're the only professional sport with a father-son system is because the AFL is an old boys' club, so people like Peter Daicos doesn't have to imagine his boys not playing for Collingwood.
The role of AFL recruiters is to bring afl level talent into the afl. If all players on AFL lists become 190cm+ it's because that's what succeeds in AFL footy. You're choosing a strange hill to die onYou misunderstand completely what I'm trying to say.
I'm not talking about feeling sorry for people who are short.
What I'm saying is once you have lists that are 190+ we automatically reduce the pool of players that can ever make it.
Smaller pool, less to choose from, less quality. In WA colts teams struggle to find players above 195cm. So they make do with 190cm rucks.
Some of the best players are in th 170-177cm range quite naturally but will never be considered for an AFL list. There just isn't a large enough pool of 190-205cm players to make the sport specialist.
Maybe if we had 340 mil population like the USA then yes.
This I dispute, because football skills are learned, not inherited through genetics.
Pretty sure Harley Reids parents were a country footballer and a country netballer. Or maybe that was the Duursma parents, come to think of the doco they appeared in.
I just noticed something odd mate about the zones. Geelong is metro and Sandringham is country? I thought Sandy was around the bayside in the old St Kilda metro zone?i thought i would do a new top 60 for this years draft, i still dont think theres an elite player although statistically Jagga Smith is elite, but his actually play and the eye test doesnt stand up as well which gives me doubt, the depth seems strong and there are 20 other names i could mention as possible draftees, i have gone back to my original number 1 pick, i have the most faith in him becoming a good player, so here it is

Anything on 2026 and '27?
Couple of "handy" types the Oakleigh Chargers "pinched" from the GWV Rebels zone Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (Warrnambool) and Finn O'Sullivan (Koroit).bolded are country and not bolded are metro.
2 Oakleigh players are playing for Country and some Country players are from NSW border towns like Murray and Bendigo have NSW players in their squads, Dandenong is Metro (Dandenong/Frankston area) it used to be the Southern Stingrays but is linked to Country because theres 7 metro and 5 country teams, so they equalised it with 6 teams each, then theres guys from QLD who goto school in melb like Ashcroft, its complicated...
Country - Bendigo, GWV(Ballarat), Murray(Murray River border with NSW), Geelong, Gippsland..... then Dandenong which is south/east Melbourne
Metro - Western, Northern, Eastern, Calder, Oakleigh, Sandringham
To get Draper and Langford would be a dreamLet's say the eagles draft draper with their first pick and Lalor and Langford are both still on the board with the pick they get for barrass, which one would be a better fit alongside draper and Harley reid in the new eagles midfield?

Either would be a good option, Lalor is more of a dynamic forward/mid who moves well and can have xfactor moments, whereas Langford is more endurance, tall, work horse type of mid who has strong marking ability and because they can both take a big mark they are handy forwards, Lalor could have a higher ceiling based on a better athletic profile, but that would be confirmed at the Combine.Let's say the eagles draft draper with their first pick and Lalor and Langford are both still on the board with the pick they get for barrass, which one would be a better fit alongside draper and Harley reid in the new eagles midfield?

Interested to know how you still have O’Sullivan on top when Draper, Smith and Ashcroft seem to have proven they can handle every level they’ve been exposed to and O’Sullivan just doesn’t appear to have shown anywhere near his under age year. I get the injuries but he’s been pretty disappointing. If you really had pick 1 and you were making that call this draft night, I’m not sure how you could take that risk given his exposed form? I’m not a hater but the other 3 just seem to have clearly skipped him? Or not. It’s your thread and I’m curious.i thought i would do a new top 60 for this years draft, i still dont think theres an elite player although statistically Jagga Smith is elite, but his actually play and the eye test doesnt stand up as well which gives me doubt, the depth seems strong and there are 20 other names i could mention as possible draftees, i have gone back to my original number 1 pick, i have the most faith in him becoming a good player, so here it is

very similar to George Wardlaws year where he missed most of 2022 and Cadman, W.Ashcroft and Sheezel went ahead of him in the draft, the same may happen, but these are my personal rankings, not a Phantom Draft, if I were to do a Phantom Draft the media machine seems to be favouring Jagga Smith atm, so if I had to guess which player goes at 1 it's Jagga Smith, but if I rank the best players I've seen it's FOS, I back myself over these random journos most of which have no idea tbh.Interested to know how you still have O’Sullivan on top when Draper, Smith and Ashcroft seem to have proven they can handle every level they’ve been exposed to and O’Sullivan just doesn’t appear to have shown anywhere near his under age year. What impresses you the most about FOS
which current player would you say he plays most like and how confident are you he gets to that level
Do you think come draft day, FOS will be taken 1st overal?
Would the recruiter essentially chosen there number one targets prior to draft?
Would these injuries effect his ranking or the decision by recruiters seeing as he has had a run of small injuries?
