Cheers. Wasn’t aware he’d played much in defence. Competing with Emmett as the best ruck in the open draft, perhaps a spot for him in defence whilst he develops his ruck craft.

i have not seen enough of him play yet, so i cant comment, other than he plays small forward

As a Hawks fan Davo, Knapp and Ryan (along with Archie Spencer) would have you keen with the Ranges in close proximity to the club much like Greeves and Dovaston this year.

i dont have a team in the CTL and if i did it would be the Western Jets as some of my family played for them, the Eastern Ranges and Gippsland Power are aligned to my AFL club, but most of them dont end up at Hawthorn, outside of the Hawks im generally very neutral and watch junior footy for the love of the game.

because you catch a few i mention from the u16s in the wrong year groupings, i double checked and found a few anomalies
added Harvey Chapman - SA to my 2027 list and
added Harper Bromson(GWS) and Jared Moss(Bris) to my 2025 list

I have just found this and what a comprehensive list and the amount of work you have put in you need a huge pat on the back!!
Here's my WA list for this year
My top 11 from WA next year and order think they will go in draft at this stage
1 Fred Rodriguez expect in top 5
2 Toby Whan expect him to end up top ten after playing mid in the championships and dominating
3 Cody Curtin around the 10 to 15 mark
4 Blake Kelly around 15 to 20 very underrated has lots of fans with eastern states recruiters
5 Sam Swadling around 15 to 20 my personal favourite
6 Marcus Cassidy around 20 to 25 medium forward who can break games open
7 Judd Marcello around 25 to 30 another that recruiters like
8 Charlie Banfield around 30 + depends where he plays next year, is just so clean one touch
9 Wes Walley Around 30+ depends on his championships
10 Koby Evans around 40 mark
11 Basil Hart around 40 mark
Should be extremely good year for WA drafting, would be surprised if all 11 are not drafted

something i thought was of interest was the 2026 Tasmanian group and how strong they are, i thought Brisbane and Tasmania were the strongest teams in the u16s div 2 which doesnt always translate to draft year form or potential, but it is a good sign, the new Tassie team could draft half a dozen Tasmanians in their first draft comfortably and most should make it at the top level
i havnt noticed any talent from Tassie that stands out yet for 2025 draft and last year Depaoli-Kubank and Douglas didnt get picked up, but 2026 and 2027 has a bit of talent coming through for the new team
2026 these 3 stood out at the u16s champs and should get drafted in the top 40 or so imo
Sam McNamara - TAS - reminds me of clayton oliver but plays half back, tall strong, good mark, influences play, potential
Jaxon Hay - TAS - running winger, only Taj Murray for GCS in 2027 being a more complete winger at the u16s champs, contests, good long kick and good run and carry, seems to have good athletic traits
Brodie Speed - TAS - good inside mid, could be an accumulator, link mid, who plays as the receiver mid who hits targets i50 and wins contests, still needs to prove himself in his draft year
might get drafted, Bula would be good for structure as a KPF, Brown could also be picked for structure as a KPD but has question marks, McCallum is good, but might be too small and slim for AFL? Philpott and Webber chances will be based on their draft years performances under pressure.
Blake Philpott - strong tallish player, depends on how his body develops and if he gets more athletic, could be draftable
Jess Bula - athletic tall forward, good option, competitive target up forward
Mason Brown - tall KPD, he looks the part and could develop, but theres some doubts on if he gets drafted
Josh Webber - decent mid who has draft potential, it will depend on how he performs draft year
Hugh McCallum - very small mid, but quality player, could grow like Zeke Uwland did from 172cm to 178cm? bit slim as well, so physical development OR quality of play could help his cause

Sam Husband - Tas - competitive midfielder, good run, could be a better kick, but has potential
Mason Whitney - Tas - very good half forward, but these types are harshly judged by recruiters, he has the quality, but can he kick enough goals or get enough score assists to catch the recruiters attention and have good defensive traits as defensive forwards are in vogue, i wouldve had him in my top 30 for 2026 he has great potential and can outplay opponents, should go top 30-40 in 2027 imo

Tassie could sign some of the 2026 names listed without taking them to the rookie draft next year.
Also, next year, the Devils can do likewise with the 17 year olds born between January 1-April 30 2009 just like Gold Coast (1992) and GWS (1993) did in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
Incidentally, the year the SUNS signed twelve 17 year olds, these younguns were born.

Northern Knights are going to be strong in 2026, even though Vic Metro were not very strong in the u16s champs, most of their best came from Northern, players like

Out of 3 games, Hodgson got in the best twice. VH and Downes once. And they lost two out of 3 games. Don’t think Northern as a strong as you think, but in 18months we will know.

Vic Country won the u16s, but that doesnt always translate to draft year, an example was SA's group in 2024 draft, they were dominant in the u16s and so i rated a lot of SA players higher than they went, because i thought they would continue their dominance, which is where i went wrong with a few and it was a lesson i learned, 1 thing i've noticed in the last 7 years is generally Vic Metro teams dominate the finals over Country Teams and its rare that they challenge for the title, Dandenong being the most recent exception to that rule.
as for VM im guessing they will get better and bounce back, they werent too far off VC, WA and SA. (im sure more talent will unveil itself at Sandringham for example)
as for Northern, it helps when you have players that can play at a high level in every section of the field, it will depend on depth of their squad and how they develop, but i like the potential of players in that zone for 2026.
Cody Walker and Doug Cochrane will duel it out for pick 1 honours and im sure as a Carlton Fan you will hope its Cody Walker...

just on some players being talked up in the media that i dont have on here, or dont rate as highly.
1. Matt LeRay - the media seems to think he is a top 30 chance, i have not loved what i have seen, will need to see more evidence, but so far he seems more a late draft prospect imo
2. Max King - i do have him listed, but havnt seen enough to make a solid read
3. Jasper Hay - a tassie 198cm ruckman that seems highly rated, again havnt seen enough or if i have seen him play, he didnt stand out when i was taking notes, im not sure what he has done to be top 30?
4. Beau Addinsall - i have him listed, but i have him as a 2nd rounder somewhere between 25-50 as a feel to his ranking, he gets a lot of the ball, but is often sloppy with disposal which i dont like for a first rounder.
5. Kalani White - i saw him at the u16s and he barely went near it, played tall defender who floated around a bit, got awarded with All Australian Honours playing in the 2nd best team in div 2, so the 5th/6th best team overall, he is a nice height and is the son of a former pick 1, should get FS by Melb or Academy picked to GCS, but im not as sold as of yet.
just a few differences of opinion, a couple im yet to see enough of yet and have not got solid reads on, i thought i would share my opinion.

Fair call. How do you see this crop compared to previous years? Stronger top 5 compared to last year? Or too early to tell?
Outside of Basil Hart & Wes Walley are their any other small crumbing forwards you like the look of for this year?
