what you are saying sounds very reasonable and logical..my worry is that in these times where the AFL are hellbent on saving their gold coast project, nothing will be off the table

Maybe the AFL just give them a do-over. Start from scratch. 10 picks in the top 20 and their pick of one uncontracted player from each club.

I wonder if there's a Richard Tambling type we can trade in with the compensation pick we get for losing Keath?

In retrospect instead of taking so much joy in Bolton's blues, we should have been bombarding Carlton HQ with letters of support for Bolton from "long time Blues members who can see the green shoots and believe in the philosophy of Bolts and would rip up our memberships if he got the sack".

Last month has been a disaster for this trade from where it could have been.

History has shown us that top of the draft priority picks don’t help, and they compromise the draft altogether

Further, look at Brisbane they’ve shown you need off field more than picks

The AFL has already shown that it has learnt this lesson, and I think we’ve just about seen the last of them
Not true.. hawks dynasty was built on priority picks.. other premierships also had freebies.

If we are being honest, Carlton were pretty unlucky to only have 1 win when Bolton got sacked.

Still I'll take pick 2 if we can get it

Your last sentence is the pertinent one. They’ll do anything to save GCS, which means it’s critical to keep the rest of the league broadly on side. They won’t be able to get the support for the measures that matter if they spunk away capital needlessly

Because the GCS project is so important they’ll need to keep their powder dry.

Pissing everyone off on gimmicks that don’t work isn’t part of that strategy

You can steal another clubs head of football, their coach, CEO, players, fitness guys... but they will go bunta if you touch their draft picks

It’s just not worth it

So what you are saying is the Crows are about to lose another player to the GC.

It would be funny if Carlton win and they flock to this thread only for Melbourne to win the next day. They nearly beat them in Perth so it is possible at the Alice.
I think people only need look at the teams Melbourne has played and lost to recently..their form is not that bad and in Alice Springs, they are a chance to roll WCE. Whatever the outcome, I see a close game there and for % that will be ok. We just need to focus on winning this week and then when we play carlton, we need to have a massive day and belt them by a huge margin to drop that % back to around melbourne's. Then Carlton's run home is much more tricky than Melbourne's is. Melbourne will finish above Carlton come season's end mark it

I agree Melbourne will finish above Carlton. St Kilda the worry now.

Realistically they only should have to win 1 more game to make it safe to finish above Carlton if we assume Carlton lose to Us, Richmond, Geelong at Geelong and WCE. It leaves this week V GC and the St Kilda game for wins to take them to 6 wins. St Kilda are already on 6 wins and now have anew coach and hopefully a bounce in performance. Carlton are 12% behind Sydney - also on 6 wins. That is a lot to make up allowing for the game at Geelong and the richmond game against what is an ominous richmond

Under Teague they have:

Won against Sydney, dockers, Brisbane.

Went close but still beaten by dogs and Melbourne.

With the exception of Brisbane on their bounce week, that still isn't much of a form line.

Definitely playing better, and more what I expected them to be instead of what they were, but they still being compared to the worst team (themselves) in years.

They still lost to Melbourne and consensus is they are crap.

Just a complete guess but I think that Carlton will go for Teague as coach with Roos as coaching director/mentor

I just think they’ll want two people to avoid it becoming another Bolton situation
