Heard some talk today from a Carlton supporting mate in Melbourne, apparently the "smiling nice guy" persona of Bolton was a bit of an act for public and behind closed doors he was the opposite. Was like Sando in he had his favourites and if you weren't in then you were out and he was very tough on a team that had a lot of young players, which is perhaps not what they needed.

I think it may have been Jordan Lewis who said the biggest spray he ever copped at Hawthorn came from Bolton, not Clarkson.

It refers to the first game of said interim coach and the "bounce" or otherwise. In most cases, the bounce is a myth.

Thanks I don't listen to 5AA, so I missed the context of what you were referring to. That they spent a couple of minutes reading from one of the threads here, no longer hiding where they get their ideas, shows just how little effort they put in.

If there was ever a case for a coach to sue a club for loss of future earnings this is it.

Carlton, I mean SOS, made the decision to gut their list, to load up on youth, mostly GWS slops, average middle aged recruits and lose any decent experienced forwards.

Bolton didn’t have a chance.

He will never get a senior coaching position again, he might even struggle to get an assistant coaching gig.

Shame Carlton Shame.

I genuinely feel for the guy, never had a chance with that list profile. Would be interested to know whether they’re starting to question what SOS is bringing to the table.

If it's anything like the Silvani topic on the blues board, if they are asking, they are asking shouting over their shoulder while being escorted out by security.

He
Did you notice that SOS's ego basically owns that entire room of men? Its like the SOS Reality Show.

I would pay a viewing fee if the Crows released a video of Reid being told by SOS I would like to exchange our 2019 1st rounders.

At $5 a pop, they would easily have over 10,000 curious people to see Reid's expression. Reid probably passed out.

He definitely "barred up"...

Have to feel for the kid - trade put some pressure on him. And on top of that he's at Carlton.

Another wrecked, useless and wasted career looms, he should ask Kade Simpson how unfulfilled he feels.

Simpson never in his time at Carlton could dream of potentially winning a flag. Think about that, absolutely no hope in his entire career.

Nah. The question is? Will Grundy be the difference in a flag next year? No. Do I want him at afc? Yes. Best waiting till out of contract end of 2020 as a RFA. We wont pay anything as a RFA I believe unless they match. They don't have salary currently. Front load his contract to stop them from attempting to match. I want Luko. I believe Jenkins and Afc have fallen out and they will/have come to a mutual agreement he is being traded end of the year. That leaves Fog and Berg. Pretty inexperienced pair. Not sure what's going on with Walker. Seems permanently injured or almost done. We really need another key forward next year. I would trade with 3 clubs for our needs. North, Melbourne and Gold Coast. North are going to trade out their top end quality in Higgins, Ben Brown etc. They hold pick 6 currently. If they could trade themselves into a position to get pick 10 as well. I would then offer them pick 1 for pick 6 and pick 10. Then I would trade Pick 6 to gold coast for Luko. I would offer Knight as they need experienced players as well as picks. This would give gold coast picks 2 (which they currently hold) plus 6 and 10 and Knight. We lose pick 6 and and Knight for Luko. Luko, Fog and Berg 2020 onwards as key forwards. Gold coast would likely only trade Luko if he told them he is leaving when out of contract end of 2020. That leaves pick 10 and 19(carlton 2nd). Would use pick 10 on the best mid with speed and composure. Pick 19 i would use with the Jenkins trade and want pick 11 to 13 for 19 and Jenkins. Melbourne would be a good club to deal with as they need a Jenkins to help Sam Weideman with Hogan gone. Bulldogs or Saints other good destinations. Would then look for best key back trade or draft with pick 11-13 as we need cover for Talia.
You cannot front load contracts for RFA. Or clearer. The club has to match the total pay for the duration of the contract. In other words, A club can offer a RFA a two year contract at 1.9M the first year and 100K the second year. The matching club can match the offer by giving a 2 year contract at 1M per year.

Right. But if they were going to pay the player 5 million over 5 (1 million each) and they know a club's salary cap is tight they could do a 2 year contract at 1.6m each year and then another contract later at 600k per year for 3. I have a feeling Geelong did this with danger. Could be wrong.

Of course there're many ways of cheating. As both Geelong and Adelaide knew well in advance that Danger wanted to go to Geelong, All the scenarios were worked out before hand. The talks before the trade was only to appease the media and to suit the AFL.
I personally believe, as an example, that the Gibbs deal was agreed upon before the trade started. It is only because SOS changed his mind and tried to screw the AFC that Read made it public. SOS showed his colours again by reneging on the deal the second time around, and extracting more from the AFC.
But the scenario you describe of the 2 year and then 3 year contract does not hold. Even if you could do 2 contracts, it is the total amount for the duration of the contract. So , only the first 2 year contract would come into contention. And, if the Matching club cannot afford it, the RFA walks.

Afc should have walked away and pulled the original Gibbs deal the first time SOS tried to deal in bad faith. They would of come running. They obviously wanted him out in return for picks. Said at the time he was worth a 2nd rounder. Tbh I wouldn't have even traded for him. If he wanted to come home he should of done it when out of contract. Has proven to be the right call.

For me the problem with the deal is what we paid.

I respect the Crows for wanting him. A few things, did they know his personal issues? If not, why not?

At 29 years of age, a year later the deal for him should have been less not the same. Thats where we got really shafted trade wise.

Gibbs should have been about the same as what we received for Cameron, a double digit first rounder.

Got plans for the weekend?

Ive got a busy day tomorrow.

Trolling from 1pm-7pm, involving the Blues and Suns games.

Then I can sit back and watch us get torn apart by the Giants at 7.

Cleaning the house, then off to the football to watch the Giants smash us (just kidding, not sure on this one)

Won't be trolling the Blues but will check the scores, laugh, that kind of thing.

They must have known of his rumoured off field issues. There was rumours that there was gambling problems at Carlton going way back. Not just Carlton, every club has their issues. Pretty sad but a lot of footballers have nothing to show for their career. Afl should hold a certain percentage of their wage and invest it for them. Player cannot withdraw it until after their career has finished. Cameron is a match winner imo, Gibbs i never saw it. When Cameron left I was shattered. Wanted 2 firsts for him.
