So you think abbott's at the level to justify a 2nd rounder?

I reckon we'll spend it on waterman anyway, so then I guess the qu is whether he'll still be there for out 3rd.
Abbott's an interesting one and I reckon he'll be a damned if you and damned if you don't pick. I hear what Masto is saying, but I reckon he can knuckle down and become a decent player. Would you spend a second rounder on him? Maybe not, but if someone else picked him up and he becomes the player he looks like he could.... Who is available at second at the time, if we don't have to spend that on Waterman, will be the deciding factor and say a Pickett had slid to that pick, then you got a dilemma. :)

In what role? I think as a forward he would easily be shut down by a taller and more athletic player - say a Toovey or Mitch Brown. As a defender I'm seeing someone like Jacob Brennan. He doesn't win enough ball to even be talked about as a potential midfielder. I think he will have the same problems as Simon Tunbridge - has a big body and some nice attributes but will struggle to find a niche at AFL level.

Our tall forward line works better with fast forward entries. Teams like Sydney, Freo and Geelong would never allow us space like adelaide and pies.

Yeo back, Cripps moved to midfield rather than Lecras, Masten is softer than Gaff and plays better on a wing.

Pick 1 - Best Midfielder
Pick 2 - Trade to Carlton for Jeff Garlett (carlton would agree to this. May be paying over but essentially our third pick due to father-son). alternatively the other J. Garlett. Jarrod
Pick 3 - Waterman

Pick 2 is massive overs for Garlett considering he may walk

Why are some suggesting we trade Garlett for a pick in ND?

If rumours are correct Garlett is leaving anyway, he is apparently out of contract and wants to come home. This board has gone to town on our footy department paying overs & getting unders for players and here we are talking trading picks for someone leaving anyway.

I cannot see Freo chasing Garlett as they have ample coverage.

My thoughts.

is that you, vozzo?

As I keep saying RE, it's great to have pace, but not if you run over the top of the ball or don't chase. His weaknesses are very large for a projected first round pick, IMO. I know, all players have weaknesses.

Yep acknowledge that Swannies, I think the club could develop that side of his game.

He takes on the game better than anyone I can remember, better than Lewis Jetta.

He will tear Subiaco apart. He plays that ground already so well.

He will gives us a new dimension to our forward half.

OK - a little throw it out there to see what the troops think question.

Given McGovern's performance at both ends and Lycett up front today do we have capacity to trade out one of our talls for a midfielder/another pick in the draft?

I personally think it's probably a good idea but the question is who do you trade?

I would be reluctant to lose any of wce talls even though there seems a excess .

The upgrading of Maginess will be like another pick and getting Newman back plus the growth of Main and Karpany I don`t see it as a necessity ..

McGovern is mostly a defender. Our forward line is working a lot better now that he isn't in it. At this stage, with the retirements, I would rather just keep all our talls and hit the draft hard for midfielders.

I'm interested in the comparison between Paul Ahern and Jarrod Pickett as potential draft targets for the Eags. From what I can gather they are both pretty damaging and attacking, and have similar height/weight. I have read that Pickett is electric when he is on, but can go missing, and I wonder whether this is the main reason some folks are leaning towards Ahern. Is this not just a safer bet (which we have done for the past however many years)?
I'm happy to be corrected (as I'm not overly familiar with either player yet) and they may be completely different players who bring totally different things to the table, but from what I gather the upside of Pickett is as high as anyone mentioned on these boards. Interested in peoples thoughts on this.

I honestly don't know. While I enjoy watching the game I do not have the intimate knowledge and football nous of others on this board.

If I had to suggest any he/they would come from Brown, McInnes or Schofield. Unless someone was paying serious overs I see the others as being untouchable.

Pickett doesn't get a lot of possessions - that is the main criticism. That doesn't stop him being damaging though. Anytime he gets the ball forward of centre he is a danger to score. I think he is a much more rare talent than Ahern and if I was forced to choose between the two I would take Pickett for that reason. Don't get me wrong, Ahern is a nice player but Pickett has rare athleticism and tools.

Mitch brown has been playing on smalls lately anyway . Trade to GWS who have stated they want a KPD in the trade period . Brown + ? For coniglio . Make it happen vosso . Also love that hurn bennell schofield McGovern butler are all good kicks of the ball . Mitch brown not so much
Sinclair.
If anything we need another ruck

yeah I think that's a fair assessment, I don't think McInnes has any real trade value. Trading Schofield or brown would be a bold move but could be fruitful for the right price. I will be a very interested observer in the coming trade period.

Schofield can shank them with the best of them, he isn't a great kick and tries to do too much at times

So if we keep winning laverde ahern and Pickett will probably be gone by our pick . Who is next? De Goey looks a real goer !

I always thought schofield was a good kick but gets into trouble trying to do to much with his run . He is a better kick than brown and less injury prone . Also think GWS would pay more for brown in a trade

I agree we need another ruck but I think we have too much quality in our third ruck. The fact is Sinclair would be a second ruck at around 7 teams, and forward pinch hitting ruckman are all the rave these days. We could easily draft a 17 year old deep in the draft and rookie a state league ruck to fill our needs behind NicNat and Lycett.
