What were Acres' injuries like? Given our recent injury troubles I wonder if it might be better for us to avoid an risk of an injury-ridden player with 11. We just got Ellis after all.

Sheed was also injured this year.
Hard to get a player who hasn't been injured.
And if you do, it usually means it's their turn, no?

Depends on the injury I would have thought. Not all injuries are the same. I would be very surprised if AFL teams did not take a player's injury history into account.

I think that is the point.
My knowledge of either Sheed or Acres' injuries and what chance they have of reoccurring is insufficient.
But if the question is asked about Acres, then it deserves to be asked about Sheed.

Would love him. I rated him quite highly when he was at the Hawks.

Might be a good chance to put a positive spin on the past if we can resurrect his career to show how far we have come.

Maybe Simpson has worked with him or has some inside knowledge on him?

Hopefully Simpson can stop the trend of us going after "safe" players and will be more open minded..

Kerr to play WAFL?

Will be gutted if he kills it as he had another year.

Likely to go to Claremont or West Perth. He could well kill it but he also won't have to worry about getting on a plane every second week as well.

I certainly wouldn't be upset id if we put him on the rookie list on a very short leash. I.e. 1 strike and you are out. I don't think we will though. Too scared to go there again. Not that I blame the club at all. GWS would be crazy not to think about it at least.
What happens with his strikes. Does it reset to 0 like demerit points do if you lose your licence?

Are we allowed to delist McGovern?

I like the talent in the list, but you'd think after 3 years of being injured and a new coach, you'd be hungry to present in the best fashion possible

Re-rookie him if need be and let him rot with Adam Selwood for a few months

I don't understand the motivation issue. Perhaps someone like Xavier Ellis I can - 8 years in rehab is pretty lonely - but a young uncapped player - should be bursting at the seams
I think that's the problem.

Agree completely, it's becoming increasingly difficult to appraise how we're going to balance needs with best available, whilst taking into consideration the fresh ideas Simpson will intend to implement. I daresay if Woosha was still at the helm, Sheed would be a certainty. Now can't say the same with any confidence.

Of the 5 mentioned, IMO. Best available and Simpson's player preference:
Scharenberg > Acres > Lennon > Salem > Sheed

Needs basis:
Sheed > Acres > Salem > Scharenberg > Lennon

I doubt Scharenberg will be available, so have to go Acres. Although I wonder whether Acres has received the bigfooty treatment somewhat. Get the feeling he might well slide to Freo's first pick.

If Salem is available at 11 we should grab him. Can play on any line and is an elite kick, a lot to like about Salem. Pies supposedly super keen on him though.

Would be a steal at 11.

If he is still there in the rookie draft I'd grab him for sure.

Good age, good size, is a mid we need more of and a better kick than his brother.

Maybe the Simpson ex Hawthorn link could push it across the line.

We need to start pushing our recruiting to the limits and not pull back at anything that refers to the Cousins era, we took our medicine and moved on. Sure we remain diligent and never let it happen again but we shouldn't handicap ourselves because of something that occurred half a decade ago.

With the way some here carry on about Acres, it's puzzling why he isn't going #1...

The argument would be that Acres would be a clear top ten pick pushing the top five if he wasn't injured mid season.

Hey Guys, I've started a West Coast Eagles Supporter's page on Facebook, I also write/do podcasts for the AFL Season Information and Off Season News Page (Currently has around 21,000 likes). I really want to make this a great page with latest off season and on season news/player reviews/fan input/injury updates/scores/match previews etc (Since there isn't any prominent page doing this for the Eagles atm) But for this to be any good I'd love to build up a good like-base first. I'd really really appreciate if you could give it a like and maybe pass it on to any other eagle fans that you might know. Thanks a lot :)

I don't want to annoy or seem like I'm shamelessly advertising or anything, It just seemed like there was a knowledgeable base of eagles supporters here so I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Again, your help would really be appreciated.

Yeah projecting 17 year olds for the next 14 years is an exact science... especially since they have no life experience and are about to get PAID (!) and in most cases leave home for the first time.
